Are Shock Collar's Bad For Dogs - What's Your Dog Feel ?

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Shock Collar or E Collar as we know them, Do they Hurt Your Dog ? here i actually put a shock collar on to see what your dog feels when the shock collar is used on the dog.
this was a dog training facility and we were filming some pieces for a tv show, i decided to get curious and try the shock collar on after the trainer gave me a demonstration in my hand.
I argued that the dog does not get a shock on their paw but rather their neck, i had my doubts for sure, but it didn't feel like much of anything just a little tingle and itching.
Hope this shines some light on the shock or e collar subject.

Collar on its own wont do it but with right training and the e-collar, it will work. (like the collar is the tool not the fix... like a hammer the hamme by it self wont get the nail in to the wood you have to move the hammer idk thats how i would explain it. XD )

I just bought Petoffers Dog Training Collar to correct my dog's behavior. My dog stop jumping now. I really like that it has the voice recording and vibrating you can do before the static shock. So far it seems really effective. We hardly have to use the shock setting. I’m really happy the Auto Retractable function, without two iron pillars irritate her neck, she will feel more comfortable wearing it.

I have one of these for my dog who has... sorry HAD dog and people aggression. I couldn’t even take him out without him lunging and trying to bite anyone within 5 feet of us. TREATS DID NOT WORK. We did 2 weeks of intense training with my dog. NEVER went over level 15 out of 100. I can now take my dog in public around people and other dogs without having to muzzle him, people can pet him and he can run free with other dogs. He does still wear the collar when we are out but is now down to a level 6 which is only used when I notice his body language stiffens which then one “correction” and he loosens up. Anyone who has negative shit to say about e collars needs to do some actual research or shut their mouths. 🙄 when used CORRECTLY it’s a life saver.

I agree👍 Are used to be one of those people that thought E collars were mean, but after 2 semi successful puppy classes and the recommendation by the trainer for my 11mo old corgi. It has literally saved his life. I’m amazed at how quickly he responds when called every single time, he doesn’t miss a beat! At the 3rd training class an incident warranted the static mode and it was pressed on 3 separate occasions that session mixed with tone, then vibrate. Since day 1 after that session I have no had to use static. Only tone vibrate. It’s really spectacular. My corgi seems to take it as a job or mission. It’s like when I push tone vibrate he automatically looks up and it belongs toward wherever I am standing at attention for my next command. Although I am a new purchaser, my review as of now is it’s 5⭐️.

I feel like people are misinformed on how to use dog collars. You shouldn’t ever have to set it higher than 20 unless it’s practically a small grizzly bear, and even then. The collar isn’t meant to shock your dog into submission, but to just be something that is a slight startle, enough to make it tend towards an attitude that gives it less startles. The collar shouldn’t be feared.

Doesn't always work I personally would never use a shock collar on my dog, but when you use treats and have a smart dog you have to be sure to have treats on you 100 percent of the time My dog knows basic commands and the word "shush" but she never listens unless she knows she's getting a reward

We have a shock collar but not for training we use it for the fact that we have 3 dogs and he bothers the other dogs and barks at everyone and everything(he barely ever actually gets shocked we use the vibrator button to get him into focus). He already knows the basic sit, stay, lay down, and drop it.

L.E sometimes training your dog doesn’t work. In my case we trained him really well, and he has been well trained for so long but until recently he has been really naughty, barking at nothing trying to get our attention so he can come inside. When we don’t let him come inside he poos all over the verandah. We tried training him again but he doesn’t listen. Some dogs don’t listen, training doesn’t always work no matter how hard you try.

"It doesn't hurt. It's just annoying :D" as it's set at 13 and you admit that it goes up to 100. You can sugarcoat it all you want, but this is no better than if you're hitting your dog. Y'all just continue to use this because you can do it without making a scene (like hitting would) and it makes dog training "easy". Because training an animal with pain and fear IS easy. But it being easy doesn't make it right.

The other day my dog's neck area smelt like rotton potatoes, and I told my mom so she took off his collar and the shock collar had dug into his neck, it looked extremely painful, and worse it was infected... So yeah, now my dog has holes in his neck, we are currently treating it and cleaning it out a few times a day, I hope he gets better... ;(

Actually no... We took it off every night, and put it back on in the morning, I guess he laid down on the part that shocks him or something because when we were taking it off there were holes in his neck and they were infected... Seeing how we took it off every night I have no idea how it got infected, it wasnt very noticeable with all of his fur so I guess we just missed it... We provided him with the care he needed and now he is better than ever. But thank you ever so much for trying to tell me we are neglectful owners, maybe you shouldnt jump to conclusions like that next time. :) Trust me, I hate the shock collars, I really do, but if we dont use them on him he will dig under our fence or sprint out the front door when someone is walking in or out, heck he has even opened our back gates and our front door. And when he gets out, he likes to make a beeline over to our neighbors house and kill their chickens before we even catch him. Our neighbors have threatened to shoot him so I would much prefer to use a shock collar to keep him in rather than him getting shot, even if I am completely against animal cruelty and negative reinforcement. I wouldnt be able to deal with him getting shot. Before you comment something like that, make sure you fully understand the situation. Thanks. ;)

Happens quite often. Just google shock collar injuries. Electric shocks often burn the flesh, since the shocks last quite long and the area heats up quickly. Another good reason to ban those nasty collars! Hope you don't use it anymore. If you don't want the dog to jump on someone or run away, there is a leash. And you should do recall training. You can start inside your house or any small place that has no distraction. Call your dog. Every time he comes, reward him. Make sure you are the most awesome thing to the dog. Once he learned, add more space and distractions. Level up! If he fails, don't punish him. Animals have bad days too. Highly recommend Kikopup and Zak George. They have great videos about different techniques.

This collar pretty much tells a lot about american culture: Everything needs to be remote controlled, even the dog. So easy to do. Just keep sitting on the lazy ass and push the button. However those collars won't safe lives, in fact it is a reason why shelters are full. The collars are kind of like a bandaid. It covers up the problem, but the behavior problem is still there and on top of that it creates a ticking time bomb. There is a good reason why those collars are illegal in many countries. Also surprised(not really!) you didn't use the higher levels. ;)

Step By Step I haven’t tried the one you tried which I believe is a mini educator and is like the Lamborghini of shock collars. The differences from my reading is that the good brands like you tested have three settings. A beep, a “shock” and a vibration and they go from 1-100 so you can fine tune them ( compare it to a car that goes from 0-60mph in 45min) A store bought version only has two settings. Beep and “shock” aka stimulus They go from 0-60mph in 2seconds. So there’s no fine tuning them. You go from subtle to insane in one step which imo is not good at all. The store bought one also failed during the second video (the second video I have it on my neck and I’m editing now and will link later because it’s a better video than the first one imo) I’m someone who is normally a more positive trainer and I use treats but I’m also very open minded and love to learn My opinions on a pet store e collar are I was “shocked” to find out that it did not feel like what I was expecting. I wasn’t electrocuted like ppl think they do. I see no problems using the lower level settings to train a dog at all but the higher settings are ridiculous imo I can see how just like any training tool for dogs that in the wrong hands it could be abused and miss used very easily but in the right hands it can be a very great training tool for some It isn’t for every one, do not train your dog with it unless you have knowledge about it and tried it on yourself first and please do not use pet store e collars Only use high quality ones like what you used

What’s cool to keep in mind though is a few months ago I was a “positive” dog trainer and only trained using treats and things like “good girl” But after seeing what the collar felt like I have no issue with dogs who are on e collars. I do think it’s not for everyone and not for every dog But I do feel some would benefit greatly from the collars such as a disabled person with little to no mobility in their hands who can’t afford a dog trainer and wants to train their own service dog Or a deaf dog who loves to hunt or run and does long distance recalls But I will defy link you to the good video when it is up

Between 1 and 100... just a note "annoying". Trying to understand why such a high range, know most owner would not attempt to place around theri neck as you have. Would you use a e collar on a child or would be cruel behavior? I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, I am trying to understand why people think forcing a dog with an irritation will train them? Asking because you daid this was annoying, this was at 13 for you. How does no determine that they are not harming their dog at a higher level. Besides some people would much rather turn the dial up then to train the dog correctly. Feel it could be abuse sadly, but trying to keep a open mind. That how a person learn, ask question, wait to see if logic and knowledge answer the question. Did not mean to offend, apologize if this has head if time.

Fatima Fernand the only times I have heard of an e collar being put on the highest level like say 100 by a RESPONSIBLE dog trainer is when they are used for rattlesnake training so when the dog goes near the snake they would press the button to scare the hell out of it. There's no way you can argue that doing that is wrong.

  • @alyssar5603

    @alyssar5603

Fatima Fernand Treats do not work for most dogs for certain parts of training. And I think you have the wrong idea of a shock collar. If you feel it, which I have, then you would see that it’s not even a shock feeling that you would think of it as being. I didn’t want to use one at first either. But I tried it on myself, and it’s just an uncomfortable feeling that gets your attention. But one thing I can say is that the most successful dog trainers in the world that I know of use shock collars. And these dog trainers have wonderfully behaved dogs. And these dogs respect their owners more then I’ve ever see any basic obedience taught dogs. In my opinion, after seeing it, it seems like a very good tool to use. You don’t have to use one if you don’t feel comfortable with it. Dogs will let you know when something is too much for them. They’re tougher than humans. If a dog was in pain from using one of these they would let you know by making a noice or something obvious. They do this when other dogs are playing too rough. So they’ll let you know when something is too much for them to stand. I don’t know of anyone who uses it up to 100. I don’t see the need to use 100 either, so I agree with that. I don’t see the point in making a level 100.

Ultimate Cupcake oh yeah let me use a treat to train my dog not to rush out at other dogs on the road. Or to not react at other dogs on walks by lunging at them and growling. Or let me use treats for resource guarding. You see treats can be used for all of these for some dogs. Light guys who never need corrections for doing something wrong and always want to do the right thing. Many dogs that come to trainers are not those easy guys. And treats can take months, even years sometimes which is not something most dog owners can do it can be life or death/shelter for the dog without it. Also if I'm going to an area with other dogs, or a lot of deer, or near a high traffic road I would always rather have that reassurance in case the dog doesn't listen. If you can get your dog to come to you every time even if it's sniffing a female in heat that's great for you. My dog is not neutered and I'd like that reassurance that I won't have byb puppies on my hands.

Sure, just be like my neighbor and let your dog do whatever it wants, no discipline whatsoever - let it bark all day and night, destroy other people's property and bite their children, let it run straight to your neighbor's doors and windows and bark there for 20+ minutes, and never, _ever_ think of using any device that might correct that behavior in just a few days. Fuck how much your dog might hurt everyone around you - the absolute priority is that your dog must be 100% comfortable at all times, and feeling a small tingle when behaving badly would certainly be going too far 🙄 People like you shouldn't get any pet that's harder to maintain than a fish...

It's better to use positive motivation when training a dog, but if it's failing for you for whatever reason and it's between using shock collar for a few days and letting the dog be a danger to its environment, the first option is much better. Also, not everyone can hire a professional trainer.
