We're all familiar with the famous Portal Gun - a device that's able to transport objects through wormholes in space. Pretty cool! But something that cool could NEVER happen in REAL life...could it? Join your host, Grant, as we explore what truly is possible.

    It's been 5 years, where's my portal gun? Jokes aside, the idea of a real portal gun has always been in my mind ever since I saw Portal for the first time. For all we know, a portal gun could actually exist and we don't know about it, but let's be honest, the chances of that are 1 in infinite. Really awesome video :D

    Portal's portal guns use quantum tunneling, not wormholes. Also, since quantum tunneling is a thing, I am going to make a real portal gun.

    I would do some more research on what the electron diffusion regions (or 'portals' as NASA's article and video describes them) actually are... it isn't a literal link between two points in space, with the exception for some unique instances in quantum mechanics, literal physical links in space-time (which implies two different points in space at the same time), are practically impossible according to General Relativity.

    @anthonyenglert6076

    I'm not one to talk about conspiracy theories... but I am aware of some 'attempts' to disprove relativity but so far almost everything General Relativity has predicted has been confirmed while matching our observed behavior of the universe, also its not quite simply 'disproving' more so than introducing a theory that can make more predictions and more accurately match out measured data. Also, remember there are also people who are convinced the Earth is flat and are working to disprove all evidence that the Earth is round

    I have a theory. so, do scientists know how to regulate the size and then find a way to push it out of a small yet complex contraption? cause if you think about it, that's all you would need and as long as you can control direction, size, time that its open, and where the other one ends up, it could easily be funded and created.

    The KZread Addict *"A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world,* based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world." My point still stands, it is an attempt at explanation. You can prove something *exists,* but that doesn't mean you know *how* it works. My wording may have been off. Maybe still is. It's a flaw of mine.

    It would be pretty hard to generate gravity you have to squish an object of mass a quite large object of mass mind you about the size of a planet which is pretty difficult of course but how hard it is to squish something that large is insane and we definitely do not have the technology to do that so I'm short it impossible at the moment

    Really interesting video. Just one question i have for it. How much energy would it take to open those portals? The problem with moving 'lightspeed' is it would require an infinite amount of energy, and i would imagine that to create portals it would take a lot of energy too, wouldn't it?

    I looked up the magnetic reconnection thing and the only sources which said that there were Einstean-Rosen bridges which I found are social media related news sites. From what I understand it simply creates a magnetic path allowing the Earth and Sun to exchange particles, and in actual scientific sources the only reference I could see to portals seems to be the second definition of the word which refers to any kind of doorway or passage. I could be wrong, but if I could see your source that would be nice.

    Portal gun short description or explanation: A gun that shoots a wormhole that when walked into will teleport u to the other side. If u need a small "portal" all you need is a peice of paper and one hole puncher. Punch a two holes in the paper.. fold the paper , stick your finger through and unfold the paper done

    In Portal 2, Cave Johnson mentioned something about a moon-sediment infused liquid that needed to be painted onto the surfaces where the portals were to be placed, I'm curious if that wasn't actually necessary because a little dose of melted metallic elements wouldn't create a wormhole.

    The trouble with using wormholes as portals is that even if you could create wormholes like in the game, matter can't pass through them. It might be possible for radiation, like radiowaves, to do so but as soon as anything with mass attempts to pass through, the wormhole would collapse in on itself

    It actually connects the portals with upscaled quantum tunneling that’s why it uses a black hole inside for energy. In the game it also calls it a quantum tunneling device

    We have the technology to make a portal gun. But there are several issues. 1) How are we going to contain a miniature black hole 2)We still have to fully understand what wormholes are and how we can harness their power.

    So basically, in order to create a portal by will, you'll need to rip and hole in space and time, with some unknown power or a singularity. The unknown power is most likely the choice because singularities are insanely unstable and require gratuitous amounts of energy to keep open

    Actually the Portal Guns are not Einstein Rosen Bridge Guns, they are Quantum Tunneling Devices according to what the blueprints states, meaning that they use Quantum Tunneling for Teleportation, and the Miniature Black Hole is more likely the Energy Source rather than the Ammunition Source, since the rotating energy you would get from it creates more energy than nuclear energy

    with wormholes in the place of the portals, theres a problem, wormholes are constantly stationary, they would barely abide by gravity or any real physical effect to them, they are connected points in space time where they are constantly in the same point in space time where they appeared, but because of the earth moving so fast and the galaxy and universe itself moving we hardly ever get to observe these points because as soon as we are able to see on it flies by so fast its light traveling at light speed to reach our eyes can't even do that. Wormholes are actually really common to, they're constantly forming just so small that in order to see them you would also need to be able to see the individual atoms, heck right now your surrounded by thousands of microscopic worm holes, flying by so fast you cant even comprehend them or their effects on the world around you.
