Hi Greg. I was wondering if you take requests for video ideas, if not, no harm done. I am asking if you would be able to concote a cocktail of my own creation, called a "Dead Man's Glory" and put it in a video and tell me what you think of it. The recipe is below : 1 oz black absinthe 1 1/2 oz cognac 2 1/2 oz vodka It is all stirred over ice and then served in a short tumbler with the same ice Thank you

The Dunkachino video is actually a scene from the Adam Sandler film "Jack and Jill", in which the plot revolves around Sandler working at an ad agency trying to get Al Pacino for his commercial. Since it's the plot, the movie studio gets to pretend that they're not just advertising to you.

Did Greg *really* think it was an actual Dunkin’ Donuts commercial? I just have to really wonder how he would’ve come across that clip without realizing it was from an Adam Sandler movie, lol. I mean, fast food commercials can be pretty silly, but I really have a bit of a hard time imagining anyone seeing Dunkachino as a legitimate ad from our universe :| And as others have said…the ad somehow implies that his name is “Alp Acino.” And yeah, that’s hilarious, but would Dunkin Donuts *really make that blunder?*

The thing about having Jack and Coke in a can for a party is that if you're throwing a party it would just be cheaper to buy the separate ingredients and mix them in a pitcher, I always thought of the canned cocktail has an "I'd like to have 1 mix drink but I don't want to buy a whole bottle just for it"

The pitch for me is: I want a cocktail at someone else's place but I don't want to faff about hauling equipment and bottles there and cluttering someone else's sink. Still, not enough of a pitch for me to cough up for them, especially with Australian premix taxes. I'll stick to going to all the way or just bringing a bottle of wine or whatever.

Thing is, they only come in packs of 4. It would technically be cheaper to buy the ingredients yourself, because you'd get more drinks out of a bottle of jack and a 2-liter of coke or coke zero, but with the cans you're paying for convenience. If I'm going to a party I'm not hosting myself, I'm not going to drag a bottle of jack and a 2-liter of coke there. It'd make me look like a snobby asshole. Just taking a 4-pack of pre-mixed cans is much more convenient.

If you're talking about what I think you are those fall under the "not a cocktail" umbrella. They don't use the spirits they're supposed to they just mix some fruity flavors with wine for the alcohol content. Nice sometimes on a hot day but not going to be the best tasting cocktail you've ever had or even a half decent expression of the cocktail they claim to be.

  • @mollieh1312

@The_Game_Professor Freezer door cocktail refers to prebatched and often pre-diluted cocktails you make yourself and keep in the freezer so you can just pour a cocktail without mixing ingredients or stirring (usually stuff like negronis or old fashioned as citrus in shaken drinks will bring the abv down and it'll freeze). The quality is entirely dependent on your recipe and ingredients. A while ago I prebatched a rum old fashioned with a blend of Doorlys XO, Smith and Cross, and a little Hamilton 151 and it was scrumptious while it lasted, which was not long!

I wish Japanese chūhai were easier to get here in the US. Short for "shōchū highball", it's made with shōchū (original versions; a distilled spirit that can be made from a variety of sources) or vodka, and is usually some fruit flavor. It's more or less analogous with what you were sampling here, I think!

I actually found this *very* useful. Thank you for it! :) While I generally do prefer mixing something myself, I am rather lazy and my friends and family tend to have a bad habit of making me the go-to bartender for get-togethers, so having some good premade options for people who aren’t into mixology is quite helpful. Plus, having a good number of ingredients or specialized bottles on-hand is expensive, so…it’s good stuff to know all-around, let’s say.

Great video Greg, I think you did an excellent job of figuring out which products work and which just don't. It amazes me that some of the stuff out there can be so terrible, while others do the trick. For me personally, I can't see getting any of these products for two reasons: I'm one of maybe 3 people at our parties who appreciates a cocktail at all - most of the folks we'd have over are in the beer / cider / seltzer camp, and that's just fine, but that means if I want a cocktail (and I do, I don't care what time or day it is, I do), I'm going to make it myself. Especially since the better ones you found here were the bottles that require some extra attention anyway, it's nearly just as easy for me to pour whisky, simple, and shake some bitters as it is for me to pour one thing over ice. The difference is negligible to me.

The Bacardi canned mojitos are actually pretty solid. You get the lime, mint and rum when you drink it. As far as premade cocktails go it’s definitely at the top. ABV is still low but it’s one of my favorites

Rum B Sidecar Matrix - Cognac (maybe some other similar type brandy options) x Orange Liqueur Gin & Tonic Matrix - Gin x Tonic Negroni Matrix - Gin x Sweet Vermouth Last Word - Gin x Green Chartreuse & substitutes. Could also do a video about green chartreuse substitutes in general

I remember seeing the cans of Jack & Coke outside the Daytona 500, and probably the Coke Zero 400, but the drink I remember the most from the track were the "5 Hour Painkillers" which were painkillers with a floater (it might have been mixed in) of 5 Hour Energy who I believe were sponsoring a race that weekend.

Best canned cocktail I ever had was Templeton Rye's mule, but It also helps that I bought it in the same state that the distillery and bottling company is in, so it wasn't sitting for long before I drank it.

Cazadores makes a canned Paloma that is fantastic. It has the acid you were missing from the one you tried, with a real tequila presence. It's great by the pool, and even better when you sip an ounce and top it off with more Cazadores reposado.

So, I've been exploring the canned cocktails that are available where I live over here in the Seattle area, and one of the ones that I _absolutely_ love is a canned cocktail that were made for Seattle's new NHL team, The Kraken. They're called Kraken Drops, and they come in two flavors, a lemon and a raspberry (though, more raspberry-lemon), and I find them to be quite pleasant. I should figure out how to send you some of them. I've had some good luck with canned cocktails from Cutwater, and I've also... experimented around with the "Buzzballs Chillers" which mainly have the benefit of being able to just get myself a glass of ice, crack one open and pour it in, and not really have to worry past that. So, they're convenient.

They definitely aren't widely available (just small region of the mid-atlantic coast) but if you plan on doing another episode like this in the future Dogfish Head is a solid choice for actual canned/bottled cocktails.

Campari's Bottled Negroni uses Cinzan Rosso and a London Dry Gin (some people say its Bankes), for anyone curious to recreate it. I can't find Bankes where I live, so I'd just use Beefeater's probably. Campari says they use the 1:1:1 recipe. Cinzano is a decent sweet vermouth. It's not heavy on the vanilla like Antica is, and it's a lot cheaper.

The jack and coke is a personal favourite of mine, though here in canada, our version of it doesn't actually use coke - its some sort of generic cola that's a tetch sweeter, though i think our abv might be slightly higher (the can is definitely bigger, at least). I usually pack one for easy hikes, picnics, things of that nature. Quite good for what it is!

Just got to the Bacardi canned things and I have to share a story now A few years back I was living in a city with extremely close access to warm beaches, so my go-to method of relaxation (at least every other weekend) was to go to the quietest stretch of beach I could find, alone, and just relax in the sun for a few hours, sometimes with a drink. One time I was at the liquor store and in the RTD section I noticed that Bacardi sold rum punch in *_bags._* Like full-on Mylar bags with a spigot at the bottom. Thought it'd be a fun thing to bring to the beach (and, to be honest, in a profoundly dirtbag moment, hoped that since it was vacuum sealed and alcoholic, I could possibly even just leave it in my cooler between beach trips). This was a far cry from the rum punch that appeared in this video; in addition to being still, it was something like 14.7% ABV. Kind of tasted like dollar store fruit punch with one part Malibu and two parts well rum. It was easy enough to drink though, especially on a hot sunny day when the bag was ice cold. Too easy, in fact. I hit it way too hard. At one point I was drinking straight from the bag, full Bacchanal. I then fell asleep in the sun. I woke up several hours later to the tide coming in and soaking my belongings, sunburnt, dehydrated, and still a little drunk. I had apparently drank like half to two thirds of the bag and felt like a sun-baked dog turd. I really don't know how I didn't get sick. The cherry on top is that I actually had a quasi-date scheduled that night for about 5:30. I woke up on the beach at 5:15. Needless to say the date did not happen. Still one of my most embarrassing moments.

I have found that the place to get the most consistently good canned cocktails is LCBO. I live in Michigan and my family goes to Canada pretty often. I honestly don't even bother with mixing my own drinks there anymore, the canned cocktails are plenty good enough. Not all of them are winners, of course, but they have a really good selection in my experience.
