Susie, it's a good video overall but I am not sure whether it really reflects the reality. There are famous documentaries in the UK like 7up and 63up which follow the lives of people from the time they are kids (age of 7) to retirement (to age 63) to see how easy it is for them to move from one social class to another. Those long studies have shown that it is not easy in UK to enjoy social mobility at all which is a bit different to the picture that you painted in the video. Documentaries Luke 7up and 63up also covered kids from different walks of life, across different social background as well

I personally believe that your point is not necessarily in conflict with what Susie was discussing. Regarding the studies you mentioned, it appears that they focused primarily on classifying classes based on the financial aspect. However, in Susie's video, she delved into more than just wealth; she also considered the cultural aspect. Additionally, it seems she did not mention social mobility.

For the accents, what I know here is that, British youths tend to speak American accents increasingly year by year, which quite a lot of senior Brits they worry about. By estimate, that's caused by popularity of internet and international news, as well as Hollywood cultures. I rather still keep my American accents especially Floridian or Marylander, or sometimes a bit of northern like Chicago or Canadian, due to my American friends longer than 10 years ago. I guess my accent won't take either side of Brits but just sounds like a foreigner from new world English countries. My secondary school taught us Aussie English.

I don't think so. apparently you are VERY wrong. Have you ever lived in UK? or you just met some Brits in US? They probably just soften their accents which are actually quite diverse than you can imagine for their US counterparts or audience , but they usually back to who they are when they come back to UK, just like Jamie Dornan.

The British youths I mentioned are very young, possibly haven't graduated and gone into career society yet, and some of them even are teenagers. I don't think most of them have ever visited USA by their own, they only heard and learn through the air and internet. In detail, they don't even know too many diverse US accents, they are not going to speak east coast accents (sometimes we call Irish-American accents or white house accent). All they know is only Californian accent, since all they can get in touch with USA at their this moment are just through internet, youtube, tiktok, TV news, video news, ACG, Hollywood movies, Hollywood songs and games. No any physical face-to-face chances for them, they haven't visited USA yet. So all those ways above only come with west coast accents, majorly Californian English, which deeply influenced by Latin-American Spanish accents. (So sometimes we call that Latin US accents). Florida comes with certain amount of Dutch accents, but majorly Latin accents nowadays since there're already plenty of guys in southern USA aren't speaking English. (But don't call them Amigo until you know you can). In central USA, some French accents and other accents, e.g. from cowboy and country communities. I'm very sure about USA because I get most friends in USA even from different races, and others from Canada, Australia, France, Italy and Finland. (Finland because I previous work, try their language and you'll cry). I rather feel hard to listen to here North west and North East British accents. Manchester and Liverpool are hard enough for me to listen. Those dudes in New castle I can't hear wtf are they arguing with their cops. To be accurate, I should call my habitual accent as hybrid, between USA and UK (South East RP account I usually mean). I don't always speak as strong as US guys, but sometimes I feel like US accents sound more clearer and should speak a little stronger than London RP one, so I usually mix them become my own. In my growth history, I learnt different accents in my different ages. I learnt British in my early school life 'cause they are British system schools, then Australian accents when elder since my school at that moment love hiring Aussies as English teachers. But then I learnt most US accents because my international social circles, and my previous and current careers, they're all about US cultures, learnt and was trained in US way, so most of my practical English learnt in US way, as well as their vocabularies.

I have lived in both the South and the North of England. I think "class" still has a very big grip on these two places. Not so much in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. I personally find the North of England very Republican. I have lived in Leeds for years and somehow people who work in building sites, work in manual labour have got better cars and houses than people who work in law, humanity, education. However, during the Brexit years (EU ironically, holds the UK together) , this Victorian value of public school boys links to private equities, old boys network, are corrupting the opportunities of the British people to move from one society to another. The social mobility since 2010 has deteriorated. University fees are much more expensive, houses are more expensive, food prices are rising. And the Tories are using the working classes' (particularly places such as Scunthorpe, Stoke-on-Trent etc) to garner their popularity to win General Elections and the EU Referendum. Now, everyone suffers. Industrial actions are more frequent, water system, basic infrastructures are crumbling. So, people in every class are now changing their minds about Brexit and we the damages it has caused to every single aspect of this country. Rejoining Horizon and Erasmus are just the two first steps to reclaim the lost heart and soul of this country. Once Britain rejoins the EU, social mobility can return to a reasonable level of fluidity. 😥

There are two reasons why I can't just listen to the audio without watching the video: 1. For instance, when you speak, even if I may not understand, I can still gather possible meanings from your expressions, and this is important. 2. Watching you speak is also a delightful experience! ☺️

Where exactly to put the line is already controversial. I've heard another perspective of the divide, basically saying this country is London-centric. So the divide is more like between London and anywhere else. Midlands is interesting too. Northerner thinks they are southern. Southerner thinks they are northern. LOL

I live in London and lived in Asia before. Heard westerners in Tw said the same thing. I would say the more blended in (融入）you are, the more you feel the influence of class.

In the imgrats group, we think here have two classes in the UK only, Royals and non-Royals. Most of Non-Royals are working class. So many Brits are Anti-Royal. As PM Sunak said he didnot know any working class, he didnot have working class friends. I am working in rhe hospital, many doctors havenot so much salaries after tax. I dont know about lawyers' income. Some skill worker's income more than theirs sometimes. Anyway these two kind of job are top working class in the UK, cuase they are massive respective jobs.

广州话有过千年历史了，不同的区还是不同口音：沙河，东山，荔湾，海珠... ...。佛山市其中的两个区：南海和顺德，不仅语言不同，生活习惯都不一样... ... 再列举下去，例子还有很多。

The reason class is not a matter of great concern to brits simply because they themself belong to the best nation in the world. Whether it is the working class, the middle class, or the upper class, they all enjoy civic pride. The UK has a long history of being imperialist, from military conquests to today's cultural influences. Both hard and soft powers they exert, denoting sort of "muscle", elicit many a positive response from those who were born in backwaters that merely got "boners", overpopulated India, China, and African countries, to name a few. This also elaborates one of your earlier points why the upper-class thing is being largely chased from other countries - because we are in the Third World - fleeing our country is the first-class means to blow yesterday out of the water; we're seeking for a new identity and not just as a pathetic refugee, but as someone who has the ability to keep up. Social mobility is what we all aspire to, the hard truth is even if we work harder, perform better, that means nothing but only make us seem less inferior to our racial or national counterparts. Therefore, the more we one-up the more likely we're better off.
