According to the National Safety Council, the odds of someone riding a motorcycle dying in an accident is 1 in 747. That's not even 1%. And that's a lifetime risk. The chances of a fatality in a motorcycle accident (if you have one) are approximately 30 times higher than if your in a car (accident is car vs motorcycle.). Motorcycle accidents have a staggering 80% injury or death rate. Bicycles are nearly as high in death rates and miles people travel on those are quite a bit less. So what we know for certain is that cars and trucks are death machines

So 16% of all traffic fatalities for motorcycles equates to 1 in 747?

@@Mandingobull I just googled motorcycle death statistics and that came up from National Safety Council. I can not verify statistic. But it makes for nice counter point.

@@Mandingobull To be honest I'm not giving up my motorcycle, but if I can find something to calm my extended family I'll latch onto it.

This statistic is inaccurate. They include the entire population in the sample, instead of only including those who actually ride motorcycles (this explains why the likelihood of dying in a car accident is so much higher according to them). But it's, obviously, poor calculation. Most of the sample in their ratio effectively has a 0% probability of dying on a motorcycle because they don't ride motorcycles. Makes no sense to include them.
The chances of me dying, period; are 100%. So I'll take your advice and "Ride my ride." Thank you.

That they are!
This is the argument that I have been having with my wife. I want to buy a motorcycle she says no they're dangerous I tell her I'd be smart and ride ATGAT and not be stupid she says she isn't worried about me but other drivers. I told her that dealing with other drivers is largely a skill issue and that I'd actively work to become more highly skilled then most riders. In addition to all that I have informed her of these stats. Luckily with this and our financial situation I tqlked her into agreeing with me getting a motorcycle and will be getting one later this year.

Hey brother! It is definitely all about making sure your skills allow you to out perform the other idiots on the road! I also think it’s about making sure you are taking every precaution you can to make it safe. Check out my video on life and risk and riding ‘is riding motorcycles dangerous? | WHY RIDE?’ Where I go into a few other aspects of how to keep yourself safe and why you can still ride safely.

No matter how much you want to be the most skilled rider, a car will always win in a crash. You will never be able to predict an accident with a larger vehicle.
You’re talking motorcycle safety and not wearing full gear. 😂
