My parents are from Mexico. My mother from Colima Colima and my father's from Parral Chihuahua. My mother and father met here in San Francisco California and raise five boys. I am the youngest and also the darkest in my family. Growing up here people thought I was black and I learn the n-word at the age of 5 years old. As I got older and went into college I decided to study my ancestry. When I went to Parral Chihuahua to visit my dad's family, I found that I was not the darkest one anymore. Seeing that my aunt's family lived off the land and studying the history of Parral. I realized that we were directly descendant from the Raramuri of the Copper Canyon and this is where we get our dark skin from. When I travel in Mexico and meet other tribes, they're very proud that I admit to being indigenous.

Thank you for this. I'm an African American, and I have always had an interest in the indigenous history of Mexico and Central America. I was shocked when I found out that people today who have the beautiful features of their ancestors were discriminated against today in Latin America. Darker skinned Mexicans with indigenous blood have an incredible history to celebrate and be proud of.

Look up Afro Mexicans, they’re PROUD to be black. There’s not much recognition of black Mexicans. If you find the video of Afro Mexicans and the black Mexicans singer, it’s a start in Latin America where Latinos embrace and recognize their Afro roots.

Since Spain was colonized for 750 years from dark brown Moores and dark yellowish Arabs before colonizing Mexico. Meaning by the time they were about to colonize Mexico most Spaniards were born from dark brown Arab women and black women and some even had Arab/Afro dark brown father's. But because of the extensive admixture some Spaniards were born of light complexion almost white with very curly hair. Thus, they hated the idea that indigenous would look the same for Europeans would bully Spaniards for their dark complexion. Thus, their insecurities were transfered to the mestizo people (people of spanish and indigenous mix), which is today Latin America.

Many Mexican people were racist towards Asians . Irony with the DNA tests.

I grew up in Texas and even though I’m a light skinned Mexican American when I was growing up I was told by other kids to go back to Mexico and got called a wet back. When I met people from Mexico they called me a gringo but to the real gringos I was as Mexican as poncho villa. Now that I’m older and live in the northeast, everyone thinks I’m white or European. The funny thing is my mother took a dna test recently and found out she’s over 60% Native American. You can’t always tell by color what someone’s ethnicity is.

@Brown Dragon I don’t think my biological father’s had the same kind of dna test done but I always assumed his side was more indigenous because my grandfather had a darker complexion and his facial features caused him to appear more Native American while my mother’s side is lighter.

My situation is similar but different. My dad is mixed black and Mexican and my mom is mostly indigenous Mexican so I took a few dna tests and I’m typically around 30%- 44% Native and 35% African and 25-37% Spanish. But my features got so mixed up I came out mostly getting confused for Polynesian or Hawaiian and some type of Islander😂 to other Mexicans or indigenous I. Either that or just a black dude and to whites I’m either just black or Filipino or Polynesian and then to blacks I’m always something else I’ve heard Indonesian Malaysian Bangladesh 😂

You are such a wonderful person for bringing up this topic! I believe it originated from the Spaniards way of dominating the indigenous people. The lighter skin you are, the more benefits. Systemic racism which is still very alive today. My father is from Chile and my mother is from Honduras. I was born in Philadelphia. In my family there are light skin relatives because our great, great grandfather was English. I remember growing up that my light skin cousins would get preferential treatment in my own family. Yet, out of all my relatives, I'm the only one with a bachelor and masters degree, currently working on a doctorate degree. I'm glad to hear that you don't consider yourself any less than light skinned people. Marrying an Englishman is not making your race any better. I'm married to a Japanese because I'm attracted to my wife and what makes her unique. It's sad when light skinned people cannot accept other races. Love is color blind but hate isn't.

I often hear people make the inverse argument; both are not true (though of course it was true in the historical past, as you exemplified in your example of the Spaniards). As you say, love is color blind, it shouldn't matter who you are with, it should not matter what culture, ethnicity, or race they are.

I think it’s deep in our primitive brain as part of our tribal nature. We like to subdivide into groups (maybe a survival mechanism to try to belong to a larger group and get protection that way). And since today most of the power lies in northern countries with predominant whites on top everyone else looks up. I guarantee you when Egyptians were top dog a few thousand years ago this was not an issue though I am sure other issues were there as part of this tribalism. In Rwanda people hated each other based on political groupings. I am not really sure there is a clear way to change this though education and exposure certainly helps.

it might be self-hatred sometimes, but it didn't come out of nothing: it's been 500 years of european colonization and eurocentrism. people with european features have had/kept more privilege and power (as commented on the video). what happens to/in the minds of people who are constantly seeing, hearing that indigenous and african features are deemed ugly, worthless, undesirable? it might not be self-hatred at all: it's all those centuries behind us, upon us, around us (or, as it is believed in some cultures: in front of us, since the past is something we already know and can see). fortunately, more and more people have begun to question that and realize that it doesn't have to be like that anymore. it's happening in all of the americas and around the globe, where colonization set(s) its foot. communications and networks in these internet times are helping a lot to de-colonize our minds, bodies and cultures. technology is serving a purpose. yt channels like this are a very good example of all that : )

The problem is not “Looking Asian”, there are fair skinned Mexicans that look Asian and no one has a problem with it. The thing that people have a problem with is having “dark skin” in general, it doesn’t matter if you “look Asian” or not, dark skin is seen as ugly, dirty, disgusting, and undesirable.

This happens all over the world due to what white supremacy has done to all cultures, from inside the diaspora. Let us not forget that the dark skin signifies being Aboriginal everywhere on the planet. We have covered the globe biblically and historically. Be proud of your dark skin. We have Melanin and we have been around for a long, long time. That protects you as this world comes to a close with environmental issues, like UV rays. Being fair skinned won’t be a good thing when that happens.

My grandfather had to break off relations with his parents because he married a morena. This was back in the 1920's, the family was wealthy and they didn't like her at all. One day he came home and asked where his wife was --she wanted to prepare his dinner so they sent her out to the servant's kitchen. He threw a fit, insisting that she was his wife and they must treat her so, when they refused... he got his wife and left. He died before I was born so I never met him but he had light skin and green eyes. Their children (my mom the youngest and all the aunts and uncles) were every shade inbetween. My mom said you never wanted to make him mad, because his green eyes looked terrifying when he was mad, lol. Anywho, you're darned right there's colorism. It's part of my family history! It seems to pop up in every country where imperialism left it's mark. GL, and TY for your time reading this.

I passed as native in Mexico. But I was actually born in the US to parents from Southeast Asia. Regardless, while I was visiting Mexico, while traveling with my white buddies, it became clear that Mexicanas preferred them over me. So I voted with my feet and soon left Latin America. I would advise folks with the same look to do the same or avoid Latin America, except for short tourism.

Man this happened to me in the usa (I live in the USA btw ) my cousin is lowkey lighter then me and we met distant cousins and I could immediately tell they preferred him over me due to the difference in our skin color I just walked away and didn’t bother to shake their hands , why waste my time on family who will also look down upon me because of my skin , this is so common to I had a friend who was as dark as me but he has family member who were like white skinned they made fun of him because of his skin color once I heard this I knew there was a racist culture in Mexico towards darker skinned Mexicans , man I’m proud of my skin now and I don’t ever let people make fun of my origins and where my parents are from

This is called ignorance and because whiteness is pushed by the white hispanic latins in Mexico since the time of hispanic colonialism. In the USA this is pushed as well. This is also part of the strategy to divide and prevent Pan Nativism. In truth, all Indigenous people are part of the Asian family.

I'm white and my husband is a medium dark Mexican. Our children are "leche con café ". The variety of colors in people makes our world BEAUTIFUL. My darker children have experienced prejudice here in the U.S. I have never heard my husband speak of prejudice about himself. He's from the state of Coahuila born in 1948.

Yes as a gringa in Mexico I was rather shocked when I heard my European looking Mexican neighbors talking about some relative that married a dark skinned man in a belittling way, having come from California I thought I was leaving that sort of bigotry behind. But frankly this has always been the European colonialist way to keep 'the natives' subservient to their exploitation by making them feel 'less'... shameful really. Fortunately I was never raised that way by my doctor father, who always said that if you cut someone open, we are all the same inside. Simplistic and perhaps crude, but still an important lesson for me growing up and for everyone with delusions of grandeur simply because of a superficial skin color.

Sorry, it's not just "the European colonialist way to keep 'the natives' subservient" - it goes back centuries in countries all over the world before they even encountered Europeans, more to do with various caste or class systems than race, particularly in hot countries. people who would farm outside all day would have more tanned skin, whilst the upper caste or royalty etc would be inside more and have paler skin. We also aren't all the same inside either, different bloodtypes, genetics, DNA, different subseptibility to different illnesses. People with paler skin are more prone to skin cancer over many years in hot countries, people with darker skin are more prone to colds and flu's in colder climates due to not being able to absorb enough Vitamin D from the weaker amount of sunlight .

You can change your genetics through generational conditioning, through diet and life style changes, and being consistent with it. Colorism happens everywhere unfortunately. It happens in the middle east too, where some Arabs look European with blonde hair and blue eyes, or even in India. Even though you may not see many blondes in India, colorism is strong and alive there too.

Great video, it brings awareness to this topic. I’m Mexican with dark skin too. We are just a different flavor to the many beautiful flavors in our human race. The idea that darker skin makes you less than lighter skin is nonsense. Let’s all enjoy each other and embrace our differences.

Y ni siquiera soy mexicana, sino negra norteamericana. Puede que sea un dicho común y según algunos inofensivo pero a mí, me dio coraje. Digo, qué tiene de malo su raza para necesitar mejoría??? Yo recuerdo que mi mamá siempre me dicia que ella "mejoró la raza" conmigo porque uno de los hombres con los que salia era negro (y por negro me refiero a que en efecto, tenía sangre negra) pero ella tuvo una aventura con el que fue mi padre, trigueño y de cabello oscuro, así que no solo lo usan con la gente blanca y sí, es horrible como el racismo/colorismo es normalizado, yo también recuerdo mucho cuando alguien nombraba algo de color de piel, mi hermana y todos bien dizque orgullosos "Es que nuestro bisabuelo era español, oh oh" como si fuese algo que te hiciera mejor, a pesar de que ninguno de nosotros eramos blancos, pero trigueños... En su momento como niña nunca le presté atención a estas cosas y si creía que era algo que me hacía mejor pero ahora puedo razonar y decir lo horrible que es lo que dicen en nuestros países

Yo soy de Ecuador y me horroriso que un jugador ecuatoriano fue insultado por un pasa bolas en un partido en Mexico usando su color de piel, ya que los deportistas de mi pais son de raza negra, incluso yo tengo al menos un 30% de herencia negra. Yo demostre mi inconformidad en los comentarios del video y tristemente muchos mexicanos se pusieron del lado del pasabolas y minimizando el problema. Es cierto que este jugador se indigno y actuo agresivamente pero nunca se tomo medidas en contra del que empezo todo. Si hubiera sucedido eso o lo que tu nos contaste en Estados Unidos, Europa o incluso mi pais que esta en Sudamerica si hubieran habido serias consecuencias. Yo voy a visitar Mexico en un par de meses y creo que es un pais hermoso, pero en temas raciales se queda muy atras igual que en algunas partes de Asia y tambien lo digo por otras experiencias que he tenido con ellos en alguna otra ocacion. I agree that she is not dark. But as a Mexican this is what society thinks. It permeates everything. Did you watch Roma the Neftlix movie? Many famous mexican actors came out against the main actress for being “dark”. Completely unprovoked. And it shows how society sees this. It is a real thing in Mexico. I will say though it is not as toxic as in other counties. This is not politicized or discussed too much in the media. Though some may say that is a problem too. I also think religion has a lot to do with this. But invoking religion may bring the wrath of the trolls over me.

As a brown skinned Mexican myself, I often see an internalized self-hatred that I can only assume was reinforced by thing like novelas throughout their lives. Idk, maybe I'm seeing it wrong. Would like to know what others think 😊

While discussing Native American origins on the other video, lots of trolls were throwing back handed pseudo scientific comments implying Natives are "somehow primitive" it's unreal, that's why speaking of race is very controversial, you'll always have people still trying to defend obsolete ideals. It's a shame we were taught to ignore our Native heritage and there's people keen on keeping it that way.

You mentioned your school experience of noticing that white-looking classmates were more popular and treated better than others. That reminded me of a song that was popular in the US in the mid-1970s by an Afro-descendant singer named Janis Ian, a song called "Seventeen." She sings about thinking she was ugly as a teenager because she didn't have "perfect" skin and blond hair. You might like it.

First of all I would like to say that I love your channel. I grew up learning to respect and appreciate every ones differences, and that is exactly what I have taught my daughters, and I am currently teaching my grandchildren. In my case, I was born in the Central Coast of California to Mexican parents. Back in the 80s there were hardly any Mexicans in this area only White - Italians. In school I was constantly confused for Italian or Portuguese due to my last names ( Davila Silva) and my light skin and reddish hair. As soon as I corrected my teachers and peers regarding my ethnicity, they would immediately treat me differently and would make rude comments because of my Mexican decent. Then, back in the early 90s a wave of immigrants arrived to the area, the majority were from Oaxaca, Mexico. I was so happy to see people who I assumed understood my culture. Unfortunately I was wrong, they treated me really rude because I was “too white” to be their friend and the whites would treat me bad for being “too Mexican” it’s was very hard for me growing up. I grew up having no friends. Now days things have changed, I still live in the same town but the diversity has grown tremendously! I love it! There are people from all over the world living in this small county. We have people from Mexico, Russia, Philippines, Germany, Palestine, Puerto Rico, Samoa, Hungry, Fiji Islands, Bulgaria, Italy, Vietnam, India, Armenia. I’m so happy my daughters experienced living in a diverse community. Where an interracial marriage is not frowned up on. In fact, my grandsons are beautiful Black-Mexicans. ♥️🌹

I think the brown Mexicans are gorgeous actually! They look almost exotic. I live in Texas, which is North Mexico lol. So I have seen the diversity of the Mexican people. Tu eres bonita! Soy Cubana y amo Mexico 😁

You answered dozens of questions I've had about Mexican treatment of fairer skinned people, said as a Taiwanese American whose ancestors have those same sentiments. Superb answering, I feel SO relieved I'm not the only one wondering.

This is such an important video on a topic that no one wants to talk about or doesn’t even know exists. I never felt ashamed of myself or realized this was a problem until I visited my family in Mexico for the first time when I was 11. I would hear my aunts compare skin tones between my brother and I and their own kids along with hair and eye color. I would hear things like “my daughter is prettier because her hair is lighter.” It was always a competition no matter where I visited family.

Nothing to be ashamed of dark skin. You look more beautiful than European girls. Especially i like to date dark skinned Latina

Skin color do occur do to many reasons, especially geographic location, climate, humidity etc. but it take several centuries to make difference. As we know human race is migrated from Africal, so theoritically our ancestors were black. As we already knows that white Americans are slightly different from Europeans. Southern Europeans especially Spaniards, Italians, Greeks and balkans are darker compared ro north Europeans.

It’s strange but I don’t think of you as dark skinned. I am Mexican American born in Texas. I am the darkest skinned in my family though as I get older I think I’m not as much as when I was a kid. I do remember my father telling be not to be out in the sun. I believe as an adult that he knew there was prejudiced against being darker skinned and must have experienced it.

I actually grew up in Los Angeles as a Latinx dark skin and felt like I was discriminated even amongst Mexican ppl for being the darkest out of my family. My dad was dark skinned and I always thought dark skin was so attractive! I used to get as tanned as possible because dark skin is so beautiful! My husband is the only person in his family who was dark and I thought him so handsome I couldn't help but marry him!

Thank you for making this video. It's so insightful. It is sad to know that dark skin has a negative image. Sister, your melanin is beautiful, you are certainly beautiful! We are all created equally, we should all treat one another as so!!

Everyone is beautiful as they are. The fact is, what we look like is a present from God to our parents and ancestors. So any compliments we get on our appearance is really a compliment to our parents and ancestors. And no one is ugly. We just have people with ugly minds.

It's interesting to see what dark-skinned and light skinned is considered by Spanish speaking people in certain parts of the world, especially knowing that there are even darker people that you find in Mexico, Central and South America because of the slave trade. In my experience I have had encounters with people from these regions who only identify themselves by their country of origin yet face many of the discriminatory things that you said in your video and say that there is no racism or divide among skin color. As someone whose mother is from Puerto Rico I have seen colorism and racism within my own family.

I really like your videos. Please do not change your appearance, or especially your personality, based on what you feel other people think of you. Just take their criticism, store it away somewhere in memory and keep doing what you are doing. There is no reason to allow others to dictate how you should live your life.

As a light skinned Mexican I know that other light skinned Mexicans did talk negatively about darker skinned Mexicans when I was at school or jokes (racial in nature) hurled at them. It always made me mad.

The dark skinned mexicans are the real mexicans, the so called white Mexicans are the real imposters.alot of white blood in their fake asses, brown skin is beautiful and healthy, that's why white people tan. They even hate their own skin.they are jealous,you are beautiful.

For me the only time anyone has said anything about my appearance was from a Mexican who told me that all the girls where he was from looked like me (brown skin and dark haired) . He was really into my roommate . She’s Mexican too but with very white skin and dark hair . He complimented her a lot . The point of this is that he mentioned my looks and showed his interest in my roommate before he even knew that I wasn’t even interested in him . That was what really irked me about the interaction. The audacity for him to assume I was interested in him and for him to right away say what he said . And the cherry on top was that he was DARKER skinned than me .

As somebody who grew up around Caribbean, Black american and Hispanic culture, I have observed this self-loathing, colonial racist trend in so many nuances. I now see the same thing in Europe with more immigrants than in the past. I appreciate people like you putting videos like this out there to help reverse the brainwashing that has permeated so many cultures throughout centuries. I am married to a Caucasian woman, where in some rare cases, I may get a similar reaction as you with your husband. Hopefully, soon, there will be more people who realize that love is love (minus people who only marry for physical appearance, like skin color). I hope that you have or will post a video on Afro ancestry (amongst other ancestries) in Mexico.

The shame of that whole thing is if you pluck someone's eyes out of their head it wouldn't matter what color you were as long as you were capable of leading in a direction that would help them. I think Mexicans wear white Mexicans have a serious issue and I've been on this Earth a long time and I've never met any Hispanic as racist as Mexicans. The problem is Mexicans are still trying to become what Jose vascancelos thought was the perfect Mexican milky white skin with different color eyes. Jose vasconcellos adopted Adolf Hitler's policy that if your hair is the same color as your eyes then you are not white. That's very interesting, in Mexico moreno means brown and a word most Mexican American could relate to also Mexicos modern presidential left wing party is called Morena.

This is a great video. The only one I could find that addresses skin tone and eyecolor prejudice in Mexico. On the surface Americans are not aware of this subtle prejudice. As I get to know the culture I am more aware of it. How interesting. Thank You.

Eres muy valiente a hablar de algo que muchas chicas morenas hemos sentido, te felicito y lo importante es aceptarse y sentirse orgullosa de tus raíces, al igual que tu me he sentido discriminada por mexicanos hasta en tu propia familia escuchas, frases como: ese niño(a) está muy bonito(a) es güerito(a), "Se mejoró la raza". Pero haciendo una reflexión es la sencillez, originalidad y seguridad que uno proyecte hacia la sociedad lo que realmente importa.

I recently found your channel and absolutely love it! I love your topics and subject matter. I don’t think your dark skinned but if you identify as dark skinned , it’s cool too. I see more of a tanned skin tone. Whether dark, light, medium, olive ... it’s all good! You are naturally attractive and your personality is top tier. Thanks for the vids !

I was born in California to Mexican immigrants from Oaxaca. Growing up, I was discriminated ONLY by other Mexicans and not once by any other race, even white people. People from Jalisco, Zacatecas, Michoacan, etc...always talking shit because of where my family was from or my brown skin. I served the Marine Corps and went to school or stationed in the South, and not once did I ever experience overt racism towards me. But. yeah, other Mexicans, "my people", yeah....

Sad but this is true, they make many jokes about dark skin people.

We have this same problem in the Philippines, which is crazy because although we are diverse we arent nearly as diverse (skin tone wise) as mexicans! Some of the girls will even go to the lengths to use a soap that is for lightening the skin

Hi, fellow Mexican here! Thank so much for doing this video and discussing these important topics! I think it is so essential to discuss them more in the public arena, both in Mexico and in the whole world. I could really resonate with a lot of the feelings and thoughts you shared :) The colonial system that abused and discriminated against our indigenous ancestors has present and harmful repercussions in our current Mexican society. There’s a hypocritical narrative in our society in which we celebrate and brag about the remaining of pre-Hispanic cultures for commercial purposes (tourism) while we continue to discriminate against present surviving indigenous communities and brown skinned people as a whole. We are somehow taught that being brown skinned is not something to feel pretty about and to share indigenous cultural traits is not something to be proud about either :( I believe a good way to break free form these near sighted chains of the mind which we have acquired is learning about human diversity through anthropology and to challenge our social constructs through sociology. That and going to therapy is part of the process of deconstruction :)

Same thing in Vietnam. When H'Hen Niê won miss Vietnam back in 2017, all of Vietnamese youths were proud, because we finally have a dark skin ethnic minority that held the title. She was the first dark skin girl and of a small indigenous tribe in the Vietnamese highland with parents that don't even speak the Vietnamese language. But even till this day, light skin Kinh people still dominate the media and the defined beauty image of the country. Like Vietnamese Novela is literally filled with extremely pale skin (Kinh ethnic) Vietnamese actors. The other 53 dark skinned minority groups still have a long way until they can receive recognition in the media (not to mention language & culture barrier since some tribes don't speak Vietnamese). Even foreigners can easily apply for Vietnamese citizenship and being treated better than the ethnic natives. I think we can do better than this! Dark skinned ethnic groups are Vietnamese too and they deserved better recognition and chances and representation. Btw I love your videos and I spend many years as a child in Oaxaca, México 😍

When the Spanish arrived in Mexico, they realized that they did not have the strength to defeat the Aztecs, so they made a pact with the Tlaxcalans to defeat them ..... and there began the mixture of races or mestizaje, almost exclusively between a Spanish man and an indigenous woman, the mestizo children were raised apart from the indigenous and learned to admire and love the "" white "" culture of his father and even they created the phrase "" Tienes que mejorar la raza"" ( you have to improve the race ) which meant to marry someone whiter than you ... the rule was: the son of Spanish and indigenous is mestizo, the son of mestizo and Spanish is castizo and the son of castizo and Spanish is Criollo or Spanish (white), this explains why people with indigenous appearance are depreciated by the majority of the mestizo or castizo population.

@ger san At first the Spanish united with the indigenous, simply because they needed them and the Spanish crown established the Castas system as a result of the large number of mestizos who were born and who demanded to maintain some of their rights as descendants of the conquerors. The first mestizos were educated by their parents, because there were no churches or convents in the first years after the conquest,.. only the descendants of Spaniards could be Criollos and the authorities made sure of this, by writing the casta of the baby's parents in the official birth document, discrimination against indigenous people has been around for a long time and Mexico is still very racist, as can be seen in the racial insults against actress Yalitza Aparicio made by other Mexican actresses or the fact that it's considered that in Los Altos de Jalisco, the ""whitest"" region in Mexico, has the most beautiful Mexican women .... obviously none of these women have indigenous characteristics.

You’re explanation is correct I think 👌🏼 the history of Mexico is so much more complicated than black and white (i.e Spanish vs indigenous). There is a lot of gray area. However, there are people in my country 🇺🇸 that try to create a divide between lighter skinned Mexicans and darker skinned Mexicans because the goal is the same as before: divide and conquer !

@ger san Racism in Mexico manifests itself differently than in other countries, because most of the population is of mixed race, there was never racial segregation between indigenous, Spanish or mixed race people ... I have relatives who are blacker than night and whiter than Moon,. Racism in Mexico is so curious that a Mexican can be very proud of his Aztec roots and at the same time be insolent with today's indigenous people.

@ger san You have a point, most of the indigenous people are very poor and... curiously, many rich people are white, I don't know if the Mexican is more classist than racist. but money definitely makes you 100% respectable, no matter that you look completely indigenous.

@Dr. Nick The Europeans are concerned by the theory of the """Great replacement""" and in the North-americans by the ""White genocide"".... they worry about the disappearance of their culture and mainly of their ""race"" ..... ironic..., when in America, a continent that should be completely ""brown"", there are a huge amount of white people and people of mixed race, actually, people of original American ""race"", are now a minority.

Once when I was working in US, my Centroamerican boss ask me where I was from, I told him "I'm Mexican", I asked him "where are you from?" he just said: "I'm from El Salvador", but my grandgrandfather was from Portugal, what about your family?. - I just said I'M 100% MEXICAN. He said: So you are indigenous? (He said it in insulting way, imagining that I would feel offended), I said: well, yes but I don't speak an indigenous language but I would love to learn it. I've been called Asian and of course I know there are a mix in my family, but I still can't understand this mentality of Latinos trying to overpass others Latinos just because they have foreign heritage. Please, when somebody ask you where are you from, only answer your nationality, its not necessary to know your grand,grand,grand,grand,grandparents nationality if you just do it for the feeling of superiority.

Well, yeah! You straight up do look Asian, though. Many Native Americans look similar to Asians especially Filipinos because tens of thousands of years ago, Native Americans came from the Mongoloids (the Asian race) before crossing over the ancient ice age land bridge in between Siberia and Alaska. Others boated across and settled since then. The way I see it is that Native Americans compared to many East Asians for example generally have higher cheekbones, a little less slanted or closing-in eyes but the eyes are still small and slanted or closing-in, possibly rounder heads, wrinkles on their faces or skins easily, shorter in height and lesser metabolism making them easily obese. Though, Native Americans in the U.S and Canada are generally tall and less likely obese compared to Latin America's Native Americans. East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, and Taiwanese) on the other hand are generally light skin, have more slanted or closing-in eyes, lower cheekbones, heads that are not as round as the Native Americans, flatter faces, medium height but still shorter than most Caucasians and Afros on average, higher metabolism so therefore they're not as likely to be as obese as Latin America's Native Americans, and a little bit more hair growth. Southeast Asians are much like East Asians (Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, and Taiwanese) but their skin tones are generally darker, faces not as flat, and probably a bit shorter.

In Latin America, I believe that Caucasians and those that are mostly Caucasians like the castizos are generally up top, mestizos or anyone with only half or less Caucasian are like in second place, Asians likely in second place, and Native Americans/indigenous and Afros are down at the bottom.

Thank you for sharing this honest video. You're speaking about Colorism, which is a serious problem in many cultures worldwide. It stems from Colonialism mainly. I believe all women look beautiful in their natural skin tone (and this includes you!). It is when they try to change their colour they start to look unnatural...

It's a shame that indigenous ppl are constantly being treated like they're not good enough, pretty enough. When this is literally your homeland and there's all this history and archeological sites right there for you to explore. I love Roma. Alfonso Cuaron is one of my favorite directors. I could only imagine the significance of seeing an indigenous person on the big screen, and speaking an indigenous dialect too. I'd love to hear more about your journey exploring your roots. I am Mexican-American. I am very light skinned, and have light brown hair. The term used to describe people like me here in Los Angeles growing up (by other Mexican Americans) was "white-Mexican". Growing up, my family would often vacation in Mexico. While there, I came to notice that in Mexico (1970's) that all the best jobs in the department stores, the pharmacies, the nice restaurants, were also given to light skinned Mexicans. Mexicans in charge wanted to project this to the tourist. It has always bothered me. I thought it was disturbingly hypocritical knowing that many Mexican Americans in the U.S. felt they were being discriminated against here. I believe, because of their skin color, they would have been discriminated against more, if they lived in Mexico!

Same in Philippines. My cousins praised me for being Light Skinned. I told them, "Why? You are beautiful." And dark skin is beautiful. Not "too" or "also" but just beautiful.

Yeah that's the thing I hate so much about Filipinos. Our older relatives also makes us pinch our nose so it would become "matangos" (narrow nose) and the Miss Philippines beauty winner is often half-foreign with a white father from a western country and there seems to be a desire among young Pinays to marry an older white man 2x or even 3x their age.

Understand that what dark skin humans have experienced stems from hate which has been transmitted towards our skin simply because SUNSHINE loves it. It is a gift that we must acknowledge and USE to create within the divine laws of MOTHER (nature)

I would suspect that those who look down on dark-skinned people also to some degree have no problem with a manager exploiting his workers and the value of their labor.

Si, Karencita, haz un video acerca de porque "at the market we're all gueros". First time I was called that by a vendor I was sooo confused! I honestly wondered if he hadn't gottena good look at me since I am clearly brown skinned. 🤔

So I'm black American and I'm an administrator at my job. One of the cleaning ladies used to ask my strange questions about my hair. Like all the time. She saw my daughter's picture on my monitor and started asking me about my daughter's hair. I thought it was odd but then she started doing super weird things like mopping and sweeping under my desk while I sat at my desk. Now this woman can barely speak proper English but turns out she's racist against Black people. Another Hispanic lady in my office told me she hates black people. I almost died laughing y'all. Really I did. Her skin is the same color as mine. I guess she thinks in her mind she is "better" than me 🤣😂😆😄 there delusion is real y'all. Just ignore them and live your life while you're here.

Me gustó mucho tu video, es innegable que aquí hay un serio problema de racismo y discriminación en México. Recuerdo que cuando era niña la mayoría de las personas siempre le decían a mi hermano, que es de tez clara y tiene ojos claros, que él había salido bonito, y en contraste yo que soy morena no recibía tanto esos comentarios. Y creo que es muy triste porque a mayoría de la población es morena y creo que eso nos hace sentir menos muchas veces.

In the Philippines, we used to think that Mexicans are mostly European looking because of the telenovelas. I found out, that we as former colonies of the same Europeans, are still both slaves of colonial mentality. Here, indigenous looks gets lowkey disliked and many prefer white skin. Tons of videos with this topic has been produced on KZread. To add, the Spaniards called us Indio and that was derogatory.

Thank you for sharing, I had no idea that racism existed in Mexico. Watching the Yarbros channel they had said that they didn't notice any overt racism, I don't remember if it was them or someone else that mentioned classism as being the problem.

Yo creci en la frontera entre Baja California y Los Estados Unidos y yo también tuve los mismos sentimientos de no ser tan bonita porque soy morena y tengo rasgos mas indígenas también. Lo curioso es que cuando me salí de esa cultura y me mude a otras partes de los Estados Unidos la gente me de decía que bonita estaba y cosas así. Me tomo mucho tiempo aceptar mi color de piel y mis facciones. Gracias a Dios e aprendido a amar la manera en la que me miro y no cambiaria mi semblante indígena por nada del mundo. Me encantaría conocer más de mis antepasados indígenas también.

Same case in the Philippines being white or half white became the standard in the media but that was something that we shouldn't be proud of but I'm happy that morenos have being represented we'll right now.Its time to embrace moreno skin.

This video made my day. I can say I relate to you so much. I am dark skin and I have always felt less than among my siblings because they all are lighter than me. It's something that I don't think they can fully understand as this feeling is only felt if you are actually dark skinned in a culture that say" dark skin is ugly" Another thing, I also married a " guerro" and have two beautiful babies. What I want to add to this to stress the disparity is that, even my own mother takes a better liking to my children who are light skinned that my nieces and nephews , who are dark skinned. Racism and prejudice is well and alive in Mexico!

I'm wondering with lighter skinned Mexican people if they do tan up after while or do they take precautions ? I live in Australia and am tanned from the weather here but from a distance I would look white but close up I'm tanned. I know it's not all about the shade of your skin as indigenous people would have slightly different facial features etc. If a country is very diverse like Mexico then we need to embrace the differences and reflect more positively beyond the whole surface. happy to hear your Vietnam stories as I've been there many times myself.
