I’m from São Paulo, Brazil and the traffic jams are horrendous. However, we pretty much follow all the rules, surprisingly enough. When I went to Rome I was totally shocked of how people drive over there! Crazy 😅

I was visiting my cousin in Acireale Sicilia and he was driving us around to see the city. As we approached a Semaforo (traffic light) the light changed from green to red. He continued through the intersection looked over at me and said "consiglio" which translates to "advice". This is pretty much how Italians view traffic laws.

No.. This is how Italians from the south drive and respect the law.. I am from the north east.. I hv never seen anybody doing that, people stop at the pedestrian crossing.. Here many incidents involve the Americans of the air Force Base, who can't drive!!

@@luigilupi6273 last year in Naples me and some colleagues were there for a meeting, we were the only person to have a seat belt, sitting in the back, we were absolutely terrified, nobody with seat belt, no moto riders with a helmet, people stopping at red traffic lights or at pedestrian crossing... Those are not prejudices.. In naples people can't respect the law!!

Oh, ci sarà pure un coefficiente in cui la "creatività stradale" aumenta all'andare verso sud, ma i livelli di partenza sono già altissimi per il resto dell'Europa occidentale. P.S.: a Napoli il modo di guidare è l'ultimo dei problemi, ma solo un fissato può fossilizzarcisi. Ah, la magia della provincia del nord est duro e puro, fa sembrare la Romagna una terra popolata dagli hippies.

​@@M.C.K.111 Yes, you're right. In actual fact, I've been in a few cars in Napoli, where the owner's have taken out the back seatbelts! My ex was Neapolitan, and when we were together, she would always wear a seat belt, however, when she was in Napoli, she would start laughing and not wear it. It's a really selfish cultural mentality that nobody cares until something bad happens to someone else or even fatal.

Non guido, ma sono indiana, da Mumbai. Ho visitato l'Italia l'anno scorso (Roma, Firenze, Milano), e devo dire che rispetto all'India, gli italiani guidano perfettamente! Secondo me, voi italiani seguite sempre le regole, non guidate troppo velocemente, e date sempre la precedenza ai pedoni...e quando ero in Italia, non ho mai sentito questo rumore di clacson di qui parlate nel video. Se non mi credete, venite in India per capire il vero significato di caos! :P

Come francese, devo dire che è una cosa molto conosciuta che le persone d'Asia del Sud guidano malissimo, quindi nonostante gli italiani guidino malissimo è normale che sia sorpresa

Ho vissuto tra Roma e Genova per diciotto mesi. Ho preferito guidare a Roma piuttosto che a Genova. Ci vuole abituarsi a guidare in Italia in generale. Quando sono tornato a casa in Canada, ho trovato la guida noiosa per un po' perché le strade sembravano così larghe e deserte.

I think people driving fast is always related to something else. It’s not just because they want to drive fast, but I see that people’s frenetic lifestyle has brought them this sense that everything must be done as soon as possible, reason why anxiety has become so common. I don’t think this is healthy for us. Everything is so fast paced in many cities nowadays. I believe it’s an unhealthy thing. I need to check on myself every now and then to make sure I’m not rushing my day. Good job, guys! Nice video 👍🏼👏🏼

I lived in the Chiaia area of Napoli with a Ford Mondeo, my daily commute to Pomigliano was always interesting.

It's funny, I've had four Fiats, an Alfa Romeo and I'm learning Italian because I have a vintage Lancia. Even with loads of Italian cars and several years of experience racing cars, I would be nervous to drive in Italy 😅

I live in northern Italy, and I've traveled a lot in Europe, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, by car. but honestly I haven't seen all this difference in driving style between different countries. perhaps only the Swiss (also due to the number of radars on their roads) but they too put their foot down when they arrive on our motorways

Traffic in Rome is like in India but without cows. And the traffic signs they see as a suggestion, not as a law

vengo da marsiglia, e qua è un vero casino ! la gente guidano molto velocemente e terribilmente senza rispetto alle precedenze soppratutto nel nord della citta. sembra è un po come a napoli sul fatto che tutti fanno un po come vuole (monopattini elettrici, motorini.. mammamia) da evitare per guidare, meglio di prendere altri mezzi di trasporti

Il fatto dei sorpassi è che in Italia ovunque c'è la doppia striscia continua, allucinante. In Germania si può sorpassare quasi ovunque, in alcuni posti pure in curva !!

Vivo in Inghilterra e anche se sono d'accordo che gli inglesi guidano bene (quasi sempre), direi che l'automobile da loro un senso di anonimato, e anche, di invincibilità! Forse, di persona, siamo molto attenti e rispettosi, pero quando guidiamo, possiamo diventare persone diverse interamente! I've driven in Italy and survived, but the largest town I drove in was Pisa. I probably would not have managed in a very large town. Not surprisingly, since I'm English, I found roundabouts very difficult.

I live just over the border in Switzerland and the driving here also has a heavy Italian influence. I'd love to explore more of Italy but it's just so stressful to drive. Essentially you can do what you want as long as you don't get caught and the police tend to be very forgiving of people in supercars because the car is clearly meant to be driven fast! On the highway you can encounter people driving at only 60kph to more than 200kph so everyone tends to stick to the middle lane and let the really crazy drivers do as they please. If you go to Milan, just take the train!

Driving the A4 from Torino to trieste in summer is a challenge !! It freaks the shit out of me every summer 😁 And shall we talk about people queing in Autogrill ? 🤦

I have visited every popular place in Italy from Calabria to Switzerland by bicycle (!): I cicled 2600 km on Italian streets. My experience as a cyclist in Italy is that Italians drive like idiots BUT they always respect cyclists: No car driver ever came closer to me than 2 meters! They always stayed behind me until the could surpass me safely.

A me piace molto guidare in Italia. Sia nella campagna o nella città. Il traffico è un pò intuitivo, guidono come essere in uno sciame.

We vacation often in Italy. Just before we get to the border I tell my husband it’s his turn to drive 😅. The people just have zero patience. You can be overtaking a truck at legal speed and they will still flash you as if you’re doing something wrong. Overtaking on the right on the highway is also really normal. It’s insane. I choose to not drive there.

The last time I was in Italia, I found the drivers were fine, we put around 300km on the rental over 2 weeks but had no issues. my thought was they drove better than many americans. Ciao.

I’m from New York (Long Island) and most people here are pretty aggressive drivers. The further west you go (towards NYC), the more psychotic people drive. I drive pretty fast; if the speed limit is 55mph, I’ll drive 70/75. But then people will blow by me like I’m standing still. And then they will pass from their lane in front of you into your lane and just barely miss your bumper. People here also have major road rage 😢

Qua in Germania tu devi rispettare tute le regole altrimenti ti aspettano un sacco di multe con tanti soldi…. Non si può nascondere un piccolo errore ( a me piace guidare in Italia perché il traffico è fluente e veloce)

It's a bit crazy, but I have not been in any other country with such high percentage of people who can handle a car at a very high level. Problem is that those driving fast (and good) are setting the standard. By doing so, they are forcing those who are not so good, to drive faster than they should. (Sorry, I have no chance writing that in Italian)

There is a lot of truth in that statement. I noticed on the freeways e.g. the A35 in Italy that Audi's Pantechs and Topolinos seem to coexist. That could never happen in Australia where to be driven past is an insult.

I am sorry, if you do not care for the other users on the road you are NOT a good driver. You can try your luck at a racing track, but common roads and highways are shared spaces with multiple people, if you are forcing people to drive dangerously with your actions, you are a bad driver.

Being Indian, I’m no stranger to erratic and impatient driving. Having been to Italy (and France) recently I did not find much of an issue with the traffic or drivers in Milan, Bologna or elsewhere really. In fact motorists are generally quite respectful of pedestrians and I’d be more alert and stressed while navigating traffic in India.

A me da persona che rispetta il codice della strada piace guidare. Non mi piace invece il fatto che per strada ci siano anche altre macchine.

All I can say after visiting Rome and Florence is thank God for Uber and Taxis! I wouldn't have the nerve to try driving there.

Qua in Germania non si deve fare un piccolo errore altrimenti ti arriva subito una multa, allora tutti dormono quando guidano…. Non è come in Italia dove tutti devono essere in fretta….

Ho viaggiato e vissuto per anni in svariate nazioni del mondo, e ci sono TRE punti che devo assolutamente far notare: 1) gli italiani sono un popolo che dice di essere sempre tra i peggiori in tutto tranne che nel cibo, quindi l'opinione degli italiani non ha valore, criticano tutto quello che loro stessi fanno. Per un Italiano l'Italia sarà sempre peggio che gli altri paesi, anche davanti all'evidenza 2) in tutte le città del mondo si guida peggio che nei paesini, peggio che nelle zone di campagna. 3) guardiamo le statistiche degli incidenti di guida e per esempio vediamo che negli Stati Uniti ci sono quasi il doppio di incidenti rispetto all'Italia. Quindi facciamo parlare le statistiche che hanno più rilevanza.

Non so come guidano in Ucraina perché i mezzi lì sono perfettamente sufficienti per me, pero ora devo studiare guida perché io e la mia famiglia viviamo in montagna in Toscana, senza mezzi, quindi è impossibile fare una cosa senza l'automobile. Sono molto intimorita, ma spero che il senso dell'umorismo degli italiani mi aiuterà in questa impresa

Fa 3 settimama sto andando in bicicletta per Italia. secundo me no ha una differenza multo grande con Altri paesi Europeo. Ma in la zona de Napoli guidano come pazzos... Sobretuto in la citta di Napoli é multo pericoloso per las cyclistas... No lo so come, ma sono sopravvissuto Napoli!

Sou Americano mas moro na Tailândia. Além de olhar pros dois lados, precisamos olhar pra cima e pra baixo, pra evitar ser atropelado. O tráfego é pessissimo.

L'unica città grande dove sono stato in Italia è Milano, soltanto come pedone. Dal mio punto di vista gli italiani a Milano sono abbastanza rispettosi con i pedoni e le biciclette, magari a certo punto mai visto a Quito, la capitale del Ecuador da dove vengo io. E da quanto ho visto qua, il traffico a Milano non è così male trattandosi di una città grande. Anzi raramente sento che qualcuno suona il clacson. Secondo me i Milanesi guidano molto bene. Ho guidato in Italia Svizzera Francia Germania e casa in Australia. Gli italiani guidano con naturale verve e spavalderia. Gli australiani guidano male.

Yey! It's a topic I'm familiar with! I'm from the US and I've lived in both Italy and Germany. As well as having driven on five continents! Italy has its wild side with driving. Especially in Rome. I found that most of the time, Italian drivers are mostly fine. But, rush hour, they are VERY pushy. Don't bother with your signals to show that you're changing lanes. Just slowly merge and it'll happen. Be prepared for passionate displays of anger, too. I've seen Italians stop their cars in an intersection, open their doors, stand up with one foot still in the car, and just scream at each other. After a minute of screaming, they get back in and drive off. Fairly amusing, actually. Lastly for Italy, be careful at night on the autostrade, especially on the weekends! There are a LOT of drunk drivers racing and acting a fool. The best driving I've ever seen was in Germany. Especially highway (autobahn) driving. I know it costs a lot of money to get your license and auto insurance is expensive when you're young. So, people tend to value their ability to drive as it has been a large financial investment as well as a time investment. The US is a straight up mixed bag. Different everywhere you go. It's the worst in some cities. But, take is slow and easy and you'll be fine. All the driving I have done in Africa and Asia (including the middle east) has been hectic. Very hectic.

Die grossen Städte sind wirklich sehr schlimm. Es werden beliebig Spuren erfunden,und langsam und aus dem nichts rutscht einer einem einfach in die Spur.entweder man gibt dann Vollgas oder bremst,sonst ist es dann halt so ... Am Besten drumherum fahren auf den Tangenten der Autobahn. Ich bin im Verhältnis sehr verwöhnt. Hier im Piemont ist die Welt geradezu „naiv“,was solche wildwest-Manieren betrifft

Io vengo da Sydney, una città’ molto estesa, e il traffico e’ spesso irritante perché’ nn tutti guidano con fiducia. Spero che sto usando le parole giuste- sono oriunda- il traffico in Italia nn e’ peggio. Anzi gli Italiani guidano con fiducia anche se un po’ impazziti. Preferisco un traffico che si muove ad un traffico letargico e indeciso. La mia opinione. ☺️

It’s true that they drive totally crazy and reckless,but yet,very little accidents happen. I don’t see them as bad drivers at all,The opposite. If you hate or want to punish someone,just visit Milan by car and let them drive 😂 The secret is: just adjust to the crazy and drive as crazy as everyone else . and nothing can go wrong
