    Video games and TV are a wate of time. Almost anything can be a waste of time tho. You could ride a bike and waste time, build a bird house could be consider a waste of time. It comes down to just enjoy your time. That's all you need to focus on.

    I completely agree with you, but there are two things that should never be neglected while we enjoy what we love, improving our financial condition - reading and learning - and the last thing, which is the most important: always thinking about what might happen after our death (paying attention to reading religions in their details), because a person only lives once and has one chance. @@Yeeter-my7do

    End of the day I think it boils down to how you see it, other people may think its a waste of time... others don't. But at the end of the day as long as you enjoy it then who cares, same as doing any other hobbies like reading, writing, watching tv or movies, etc this one just comes under a form of playing games instead, which to me is fine. Some people may think watching tv is a waste of time. As long as it doesn't take over your life and you get all other things done first that are more important than who says you can't enjoy an hour or two playing? 😊

    I love gaming. If I choose to spend every second of free time I have to play games that's my choice, and if that makes me happy, then what does it matter to anyone else. Everything that isn't work is an unproductive waste of time, so whether it's video games, movies, taking a walk in the woods or hanging out with friends, it's all unproductive and a waste of time. We all have downtime, and what we as individuals choose to occupy that time with is up to the individual.

    I really hate people who make pronouncements like "video games are a waste of time" simply because they haven't played any and have never thought about what it means to have a hobby. Humans have a primal need for stimulation, like probably most other animals, but our overpowered brains aren't content with something as simple as chasing a feather or returning a tennis ball and we need things that are more complicated to scratch the itch. Obviously you can potentially have too much of a good thing, but the worst feeling we feel is boredom-clinical depression could even be described as all-pervasive boredom-and I honestly cannot grasp how someone could be so dismissive of something that so clearly provides stimulation to the brain. Even watching a moronic reality show can be stimulating because the viewer plays along with the premise and turns it into a kind of game for themselves. How can a human with all of their brainpower think "watching a movie is stimulating, going for a walk is stimulating, solving problems and thinking tactically is stimulating, using your hands and body to perform complex skills is stimulating, and being stimulated is good," but then look at video games in which you do essentially all the things I mentioned at the same time and say "but this is a waste of time." Just say you never got into video games or that you don't find them interesting personally, at least that wouldn't be objectively wrong. I think going to the theatre is boring and cinema is far superior, but I don't go around telling people who enjoy the theatre that they're dumb because of their preference.

    I'm 861 hours into RDR2. Bought it on release and I'm about halfway through chapter 3 but I like to take my time and do as much as possible before moving on to the next bit. For context I'm 61 years old and I don't do online multiplayer games, the last one being Age of Empires back in 1999. I've played games on and off through the decades starting back in the eighties and I find myself spending more time watching people play games on KZread that I wouldn't play myself, nice video by the way.

    Not necessarily, but the degree to which they can really take over someone’s free time is something to be wary of, in my opinion. Games are absolutely massive today, and if one plays more than just a few, they are destined to eat up every waking minute of the day. No matter how you spin it, playing more than just a few of these is unhealthy. There are ways to spend your time that lead to a life that you don’t want to escape.

    Any form of entertainment that's only momentarily pleasure and gives out nothing in the long run could be considered as a waste of time. Maybe when we're all super spiritually enlightened gurus will we be able not to use those at all. In the meantime we unfortunately seem to need the time wastes somewhat. Let us just stay aware of what it really is, that it amounts to nothing in the long run and that it's not the answer, in order not to be comsumed by that endless pleasure search.

    recently got into gaming and it can be very addictive. I struck a balance with resident evil and played like 2-3 hours on Saturday since I wasn't going out to clubs. I recently started elden ring and boy that shit flew out the window I had my first 15 hours session and guess what ? crossover crashed and I lost those same 15 hours. I became better and it took me like another 8 to get back to the same progress. But man I'm still trying to find balance specially for long games such as elden ring. Any tips? Playing 2-3 hours a week is perfectly fine bc its like watching a movie but elden ring is going to take ages if I go back to that. But it is is a shitty feeling to spend so much time on gaming.

    One thing that we should never neglect or ignore in our lives: Think carefully about what might happen after we die. And not to fall into the pleasures of the world, which are all temporary and very short. Reading about religions, and knowing whether humans really disappear forever or whether our lives are just a test for a coming stage. Unfortunately, we only have one chance to find out all of this

    Video games, as a form of art, are a gateway to diverse viewpoints and cultures. As more people gain access to them and the tools that aid in making them, a rich tapestry of unfamiliar perspectives will inevitably emerge. To say that video games *should* be or *stay* as an escape from the real world is detrimental and highly restrictive to the interactive art form and would only result in uninspired stagnation. Games can educate, inspire and help others express themselves in a way no other art form can; for that reason, no. Games are not a waste of time. And meeting my wife in one surely didn't make me believe that sentiment one bit.

    I enjoy discussions like this. I have a friend who was never into gaming, an outdoorsy type, gym, cycling, walking etc, all that good stuff lol, he says gaming is a waste of time, but he will also sit and watch a movie, and I see it no different to that. Some people will commit to a whole series on Netflix or binge watch a box set or go to the cinema often... To me, gaming is better than all that because you are engaging your brain, making decisions, maintaining hand eye coordination, testing reflexes, problem solving... Sometimes for me this gets too much with certain games and playing them feels like a second job, especially if I am tired!!! I play games to escape into a fantasy environment, an alternate reality, where I can explore, and achieve. Gaming makes me feel good. I'm also mindful of the million and one things I need to get done in the real world, but I do keep on top of all that life stuff, I go to work, maintain my home, eat healthy, pay bills etc...gaming is my reward. I find it more rewarding than watching a TV show or a movie because that's just passive viewing. Just my opinion of course. Thank you for this video x

  • @BynoShadow
    @BynoShadowАй бұрын

    There's no right answer to that question, because the phrase "waste of time" is subjective. 1 hour a year could be a waste for one person, while 15 hours a day could be the threshold for another. It could come down to the type of game being played for some people. It's all perspective. I try not to worry about it. If I'm spending my life doing things that make me incredibly happy, why stop doing those things and do something that's gonna be mid and make me wish I was playing games? Life's too short to settle for mid when you don't need to.

    I never understood "playing video games as an escapism." These games are works made by artisans and technicians that exist in our present-day economy and are topics of discussion within communities of people. There's no escape; that's as part of our shared reality as anything else.

    Before I watch, I’d say that if playing in moderation, even an hour or 2 every day, then no, it’s not a waste of time but if you are playing games all day and all night , then yes, gaming in that sense, is a huge waste of time. Same goes for mobile phones. Sadly, phone addiction is WAY worse then gaming addiction . Absolutely everyone is on phone for many hours a day. Everything in moderation.

    on an objective level most things we do is a waste of time. we only exist for a fraction of the entire universe existance. there's literally billions of people on earth, and I know abolutely nothing about them, and I don't need to. everyone has their own hobbies and to others most likely the hobbies are viewed as wastes of time. how many millions of lives are cut short on a daily basis from starvation, disease or violence. what matters is in the moment we are able to enjoy ourselves.
