    Fish see all colors including UV light. The water cuts the travel depth of colors where red is very shallow and blue travels really deep. Red is very shallow on top. Red, orange, yellow and green work best on top or in shallow sunny water. Orange and yellow can be deeper. Blue and purple are good on top too for lures. The big problem with lures is the white bottom on top lures. Imitating a baitfish pattern looks great but fish are light on the bottom to hide against the sky from predators. Bass and relatives are proven to see red and orange the best but there are still very few red bass lures. Most orange largemouth lures are crayfish baits which get lost down deep and for stripers there are redhead pattern baits. Pink is a proven color for so many species. It even works for really deep jigging appearing light glowing pink. Purple appears lavender really deep. Everything deep is a blue haze so purple is lighter and black is an extreme contrast.

    It’s easy to tell what animals are not color blind. If an animal has bright colors on its body then they are not a color blind species. Take birds for instance they have bright colors to attract mates. If you look at a brook trout it gets more colorful right before the spawn.

    In my opinion whether they’re colourblind or not is irrelevant. What matters is do they want to strike certain colours more? The answer is definitely yes. Even if all colours looked “grey” to them, certain colours are more visible underwater than others and some will look more like the fish they are chasing. Longer wavelength colours like red orange and yellow are absorbed within the first 50 or so meters of ocean. Even if fishing well within the 50 metres, those colours still won’t be as visible through water. However in shallower water like where you’re fishing by the looks of it, those colours may do the trick because they are easily visible close to the surface. I would definitely go with green or blue for deep water fishing, like off of a pier or dock into deep water. I would assume certain fish strike certain colours more, because it’s more visible in that situation, or because it more closely mimics what they’re looking for. I always like to have a few colours of lure when I go lure fishing, in some cases it can make all the difference it seems.

    fish (depending on the species of course, quick side note, technically humans are a species of fish, we are closer related to say a tuna then a tuna is to a shark) as stated before, depending on the species, fish generally can see color, some even can see more than us, also there are ones that only can see light gradients, so it really depends ultimately you should be balancing what fish would see in the wild (believe it or not fish are pretty smart!) and what will catch their attention ideally what you REALLY want is movement, irregular and erratic, for example I have a freshwater fish tank, a lot of the time the fish wont care about the food on the substrate (ground) but prefer the EXACT same type of food that is sinking down (they are made in a way that mimics a worm sinking down) once again it depends, catfish, for example wont care if its moving (if they think its alive) because they are scavengers and hunt using smell

    If I can legally keep a fish, you shouldn’t have any opinion on what I do. DNR assesses fish populations constantly. Creating size limits and bag limits to keep a healthy population. That’s a very liberal view

  • @lt_muffin6994

    @lt_muffin6994

    Why do you label a view as liberal just to give yourself a reason to dismiss it? The reason we have limitations on size weight or species we can catch and keep, is to protect ecosystems. If you like living on this planet, and you want your kids and grandkids to do the same, take care of it. Having your republican views of “I don’t give a crap, I can do what I want” is the single most selfish and small minded attitude to have. Must be hard to wrap your head around the fact that there’s a world out there beyond your little bubble. Educate yourself.

They then leave the dead fish laying there on the concrete for the sun and flies. Its a reasonable ask...
