Anyone else that Belegar shouldn’t have an Age of Reckoning until he takes Karak Eight Peaks? He is a dwarf so focused on one grudge that others think he is crazy. His grudge to retake Karak Eight Peaks should be his one and only goal.

true, if not this then other grudges should be partly mitigated until you resolve his main one karak eight peaks. It would definitely also set his faction apart from other dawi factions which I think they should do, otherwise they'll be too samey. But yeah I agree with ur comment

He’s already punished pretty hard before taking Eight Peaks with the 50% extra upkeep. Considering the second stage no longer has any negatives, removing AoR would almost certainly punish him even more relative to the other dwarf factions. If anything, it’d be cool if he got special themed grudges on the path to eight peaks rather than the standard ones everyone else gets.

This is great news. The control debuff was a massive pain, especially on harder difficulties and on top of that, with the growth debuff, I couldn't build up enough control buildings in the settlement to offset the control debuff, so you ended up having to just turtle along with armies in your settlements sapping up any extra gold you had.

One thing I'm curious about is Thorgrim's ability to buff his army against enemies with 1000+ grudges. If enemies accrue less grudges overall, is it less likely that the conditions for his ability will activate? Does this unintentionally nerf that ability?

Once you complete the age of reckoning goal, it should bypass the extra turns and give you the benefit the next turn. Also, remove the doubling grudge costs dor confederation of minor non LL factions, It makes dwarfs quite isolationist with their own kin, and could make the campaign more annoying

  • @Loj84

    @Loj84

Agreed on the second part. On the first one, I like it, but it’d be a bit hard to make the grudge settler armies work with that. If the first army goes away when you complete the goal and a second one spawns, that could really screw someone over if they needed that first army right away. But if a second one spawned while the first one was still running, that could be a bit too op.

@@Loj84 What about giving the Public order and growth immediately? That would incentivize building up you provinces while waiting for the turn timer and new age of reckoning to get your new grudge army and grudge settler units. It would be kind of 3 phases, where phase one is "campaigning/grudge setteling", phase two is rebuilding while waiting/preparing for a new age and phase 3 is for getting new recruits and a grudge army to then go to phase 1 again.

I did think of one potential solution after writing that comment. They could start a new age immediately, but instead of despawning your existing grudge settler army and spawning a new one, they could simply refresh your existing one. Extend the timer on it by 15 turns, bring every unit to full health, replace any lost units, and maybe add on a few elite units as well as a reward for completing the age early.

No, but it's an improvement. Don't think the grudge increase for confederations with minor factions was fixed and the Oak of Ages landmark could also use bonus damage for Bolt Throwers. Belegar's personal skill line is kind of shite when he's all about tunnel fighting but doesn't provide bonuses to Irondrakes. Should take that off Grombrindal and give it to him and instead give the Ranger stuff to Bugman once we inevitably get him in the game. There also seem to be inconsistencies with the Wards of Grimnir passive for Slayers, depending how it worked on the tabletop. Found an excerpt from 7th edition that said ALL Slayers could get it, but nothing conclusive for 8th. Could also use even more landmarks like one in Zhufbar that affects cannons or a special port in Barak Varr and so on.

What i would love to have still changed: Grudges collected shown as a resource between Oathgold and the AoR meter. Grudge settlers bought by grudges and not money. if you chose to end the AoR you can force start a new with some grudges costs depend on how many turns left to a new AoR If you get 100% the AoR ends immediately and you can choose a new one or to end it as if the timer ran out.

I played 80ish turns of Malakai Makaisson and never got past the 3/5 age of reckoning usually I ended it 2/5 getting debuffs. I prefer having only a few armies and building tall while still pushing consistently with my few armies. Glad for the changes even if the legendary power gamers feel it will make things too easy. When I defeated initial Nurgle foe, I wanted to strike Skavens, but they didn't want to be catched with pants off, so I reloaded save multiple times. Every time it changed grudge dilema to declare war between Kislev, Chaos, or Skaven. I ended up with additional save reloading till it turned to Skaven.

12:40 About a carryover mechanic, what about it giving you the rewards immediately and then start a new age next turn? Maybe that would be to snowbally :/ Or it could give the Public order and growth bonus immediately, incentivizing you to build up and lick wounds for a few turns, without making you feel like you are missing out? I would also prefer it if the grudge army would be able to replenish as it is supposed to last for 15 turns, and it can not be buffed by lords and heroes. I am ok with the grudge settler units costing to recruit, but I wish the armies did not have such small unit capacity for grudge settler units, as they promote player agency in the early game and give variance

@anon4854 it's a weird thing to apply so much pressure on the player to play a certain way. Many a dawi campaign was slow and purposeful, which was fitting. Now, alternating between being aggressive then passive (because killing targets or talking settlements while not in the age feels like a waste of potentially good grudges) seems more like a moody slaaneshy cultists raiding then enjoying, not a very deliberate dawi. I think the turn thing is all wrong. Too short and it doesn't work, too long and it locks you into a playstyle you might not want. Maybe it would be better as a dynamic thing, sort of like how public order is now. 0 at the center, you gain (negative) unsettled grudges every turn, meaning your people get grumpy if you do nothing. Settling grudges (positive) either helps to keep you in the stage you are at, or pushes you further towards a higher tier. Could use exactly the same interface: Leftmost: Control debuff, unsettled (negative) grudges accumulate slowly as people lose faith and move on. Diplomatic bonuses as you are easy going. More income from trade. Construction cost bonus. (Apparently you struggle, so the game makes it easier to get allies/stay out of wars and get/save some money) Center left: minor control debuff but recruitment cost buff (people are grumpy, but that also makes willing to fight). (You're doing OK, just need a bit more of an army!) Center: no effect Center right: growth buffs, minor upkeep and construction time reduction (people are happy, the armies are motivated so require less to keep them standing, builders are also motivated so work gets done). Chance of grudgesettler units added to pool every turn, like warrior of chaos. (The you're doing well tier) Rightmost: People get vindictive, upkeep and recruitment cost bonus, oathgold production bonus, more grudgesettler units overtime and the possibility to summon an army with some cooldown. Unsettled grudges accumulate fast as people let nothing pass, knowing their king is an avenger. Diplomatic penalties. (You're doing too well, so here are tools to get things done, but you might have to do it alone, which is quite alright, and might get more enemies, which you can probably handle, the rampaging/challenge/Legend tier). Overall, each tier has its uses, with the two right tiers being most desirable and the last one being good but not free.

@@anon4854ngl, I really don’t get why people don’t just ignore the system. I understand it can be a bad feeling loop, but if you take a step back, it’s just numbers. It didn’t *actually change much. Still the same dwarves really imo. I get that you guys “feel” like you have to be this aggressive expansionist empire, but you don’t. You can totally sit and grumble in your holds until T4 if you want. It’s just now you feel as if you could get *more* if you were aggressive. I’m not going to lie tho, that’s the game. You did better as old dwarves by being aggressive too. There’s never going to be a faction that’s more beneficial to be defensive in campaign (defensive on battle 100%, but not campaign). It’s all about resource management technically at the end of the day. You want more, you want everyone else to have less. Idk, feel free to give your take on why it doesn’t work anymore. Genuinely curious. Anyone feel free to give a take really. Would be cool to get the other side’s perspective.

Please tell me if it makes any sense or not: Take the turns away completely for the build up and make it harder to reach the age of reckoning. Then let the ‚Age’ of reckoning last for some rounds while getting extra bonuses for smashing gobbos and chorfs (or anyone whispering „short“ somewhere). That way everyone can play at their own pace and are incentivised at certain key moments to fight others to overcome challenging opponents. For balancing, maybe get like a soft cooldown that weakens the next age of reckoning if reached again too quickly. Otherwise I'd just suggest that AoR kicks off as soon as you are at 100%, make it stronger the earlier you reach it and let it have a debuff/decline phase after that like scaling down other grudges, since you’ve already grudged a minute ago.

The thing that age of reckoning is now last for15 turns just doesn't mean anything. Why? Because the total score of grudges that you should complete has been increased as well. So, it changes the only thing, that player should be aggressive not for 10 turns but for 15 now. Right now playing for Thorgrim is hell. Because for turn 30 I should close 15000 grudges, when my score in previous age was 3500. The system is still awful AF. We need some limit on maximum amount of grudges and proper grudges number for enemy's settlements so it won't be 30000 by turn 50 when all nearby settlements have 100-200 grudges cost at best. P.S. Everything in dark lands cost 3 to 100 grudges. Wtf, are chaos dwarfs friends to dawi now?

Kill things get grudges all that good stuff. But instead of a tired "you get this if you do this much" It would instead be a page where you could SPEND grudges on the buffs. Oh want more growth ok thats 5k. Grudge slayers? few hundred. Iron drakes maybe 1k or so. That way you still have to WORK for the stuff you want and the powerful stuff but it isnt this time sensitive thing at all. i'm afraid you'll get too much now and it would be too easy / wasted. I started my Malakai campaing on 5.0.2 and the only moment i got less than tier 3 is when i traveled from north of kislev to kill vlad (he had like 10K grudge in total to claim) and with just him i finished 2x 10 turns with tier 4 reward. I don't know if other dwarves faction are having it harder than malakai but for me it was very easy. Turns 1-20, WoC, wulfric, throgg, azazel 20-30 finishing norsca & took several turn to get close to vlad & drycha (when i got tier 2 > -1 autority) 30-50 vlad the the grudge geyser. (+ a bit of dried up wood for campfire called drycha) 50-60 the vegans extremist near bretonnia 60-80, skryre clan alone funded my whole campaign money & grudge requirement 1k to 1.5k per battles, it goes up fast when they bring 4 stack to my malakai grapeshot doomstack. thanks for being skavens, skavens. I'm on turn 80 right now and wurzzag will give me 2k grudges per settlement & army.

I like it that they are listening to feedback, but some stuff still need work. Slayer pirates feel bad at everything they do, and kinda don't really have a spot even in campaign. Belegar has no real specific buffs for grudge settler units, so his campaign might be the least favored by the mechanic, even more now that grudge settlers aren't free. And most importantly, doomseekers are way too overpriced right now, and don't even get enough value back when fighting their ideal targets. Dragon slayer hero also feels a bit useless for the dwarfs in multiplayer, and bring no unit buffs in campaign

Slayer pirates are good in MP. Doomseekers are decent as well, use them like monstrous inf by inundating them inside other units like miners or warriors. Not great but elite inf is rarely all that impressive.

@@nelsonelloi3770 Very true. In general elite inf is just a very difficult archetype to make work for MP. Being expensive and immobile (compared to cavalry, monsters, flyers, etc) tends to mean they just get shot to pieces or fight some expendable chaff a 10th of their cost for half the battle

I feel like any dwarf settlements that tied to non dwarf settlements should be split 8:56 like Karak Angazha should be separate from Akendorf because of the climate debuff or they can make the dwarfs only be able to fully colonise dwarven settlements and have certain buffs to it but other settlement can only be a outpost, similar with the Warriors of Chaos Dark settlements and outpost

Personally I think the dwarfs are still terrible to play, unlike their chaos cousins they have nothing good going for them. They feel like a generic faction with something not great added on. The new dwarf racial mechanic really isn't that great compared to other races.
