I have used many brands and models on production, recording, mixing and mastering, i also use a pair of Presonus 8"' on my home studio (i have 3 pairs of monitors in my home), they are great for the price, but there are obvious differences with high end monitors. I have to tell that Presonus deliver great value for the money with a very good range of products, even in the DAW field with Studio One Pro in my opinion one of the best DAWS on the market!, if your are producing and starting to mix and you are on a budget i think Studio 8" are a great alternative. If you combine 2 studio 8" 's with a pair of 8" or 10" Presonus subs you can have your 3 way system under 1000, not bad for production, lot of power for the buck! Cheers!

I have been mixing on my Yamaha hs80m for over 15 years. I still love them. Great sound, size, volume (db), accuracy, looks, build quality, and price. I’m sure they’re better reference monitors out there but at some point it becomes just like any other instrument where you’re paying for the idea of perfection.

As one who is a believer in 3 way imaging, that said Presonus makes some very good recording and sound equipment for the price. Including a very good 8 inch subwoofer for a little over $200 as well. It's really hard to have much in the way of saying anything negative about Presonus products. And are a serious option for anyone wanting to upgrade their normal stereo but are on a budget.

Also, something to note. Expensive monitors are usually made to last, and are made to hear things others can't produce. A Genelec set will usually last people more than 20 years on average with hardcore use. They are made for those with trained ears. A lot of people who are used to budget monitors have no idea what they are missing in their mixes. Most people who try on a pair of focal utopia's will either A: start crying (this isn't a joke, this can happen) B: Realize they sound like patrick star when he leedles. So yeah. When you need something that is going to be able to not only prevent ear fatigue for 8 hour sessions and last long, and sound clear as crystal, then the price tag can be justified.

I agree with you, lad. I'm a newbie guitar player (I started to play in December 2023), and in first hand I just decided that a home studio is the best modern way to have fun and produce your own stuff with ilimitated amps/pedals content that the softwares and hardwares can give to you. For me, who doesn't want to spend thousands of euros on my begginer studio, that worked for me, but only in a way of curiosity. I could analyze how a top tier studio monitor sounds in comparison to a cheap one. But, if I needed to choose between 3 different monitors and I wanted to go deep in each one of them to make my decision, this video couldn't help me at all. Still cool the comparison tho.

Sonarworks is fantastic!!! The software is a game changer for budget monitors.

Personally I’d suggest the Presonus Sceptre S8 (or S5 depending on your room size) paired with their 10in sub (or 8in depending on your room size). If Sceptres are over-budget, you can’t go wrong with their new Eris Pro line. I still use a pair of their Eris E8 monitors (from over a decade ago) and they sound better than they ever have. Everything I’ve released has gone through my E8 pair + T10 sub by them. Not a single complain after over 10 years. No, I’m not sponsored by PreSonus. But I’m open to a pair of Sceptre S8 monitors if PreSonus can support up & coming artists. 😬

I also had the Mackie MR524 and imo the Studio 5 sounds better. Better balance of sound, more even handed with all of the frequency's and while the MR524 has a deeper low it is not any clearer than the Studio 5, from memory at least. The Studio 5 certainly has a wider dispersion than my Mackie did, a wider soundstage which is nice. While they would not compare to the Adams in this video I think they are a very decent speaker. What I like about the Studio 5 is I can pop and drop these in my front room for playback with Spotify. I wanted to do that with the Mackies but the vocals didn't work that well there, far too forward almost separated from the rest of the music which made it difficult to listen to comfortably. I also have to say that these Studio 5s need a bit of time to bed in, out of the box the had next to no bass but after an hour or so the bass loosened up and started to flow. I use these for mostly Gospel Reggae and dance in general and have to say, I will be keeping them. They do get quite warm at the back but that should not be a concern especially if you buy these new with a 3 year warranty. They certainly do not get as hot as my old M Audio BX8 D3, those were volcanic! Incidentally, Presonus specifically designed these the new Eris Studio 5 to work with their new Eris Sub 8bt which is why they have only have mid and high tuning on the rear and no bass control other than low frequency cut off for what is needed for the sub, something people should bare in mind if they are going to purchase this speaker.

I wouldn't buy anything more than $400 a pair (or less if used or refurbished), unless I really know my basics down cold. The expensive ones are made for those who need them for there job. They are made for people who know how to use monitors like a pro, and usually are pros that make good dough. But budget monitors have their place. They are great for class rooms. Great for bedrooms and beginners. Great for small house parties. Great for begginer atmos rigs. And great for referencing. But for most people who are more focused on music production without being an engineer, a good pair of KRK Classics, Yamaha HS, Kali Audio, Adam T's, are more than enough to make super top notch songs. Skrillex (soony moore) made most of his music on headphones and a blown out rockit monitor in the scary monsters era (2010-11). He was living in an abandoned warehouse and used his tour bus time to focus on music. Also, if your room sucks and lacks treatment, please don't buy anything from Genelec. That's like dipping an french fry in a milkshake. Just stop.
