Arctic Does What Others Won't: Defective Liquid Freezer II Issues

Ойындар

Sponsor: Buy Thermaltake's Tower 100 Mini-ITX case on Amazon (geni.us/TuAASGt)
Arctic discovered a defect in its Liquid Freezer II coolers that we've heavily reviewed (and generally recommended), and now, it is offering repair kits (or replacements) for anyone affected. The defect pertains to the gasket breaking down and causing gunk buildup, staining of the coldplate, and loss of performance over time. This didn't affect all units, but it affected enough for Arctic to be faced with a hard decision: Hide it or handle it right. Fortunately, Arctic chose to handle it right. Arctic is firm that this isn't a "recall," but it does have a procedure in place to repair affected units. This follows its previous actions to implement a 6-year retroactive warranty for its coolers.

Not because the companies think is the right thing to do but because is in their best interest to give at least the impression that they care, but if wasn't for this kind of big and bad exposure by big youtube tech channels they wouldn't care at all and laugh at their customers like MSI (and almost all) keeps doing by these days.

I filed a support ticket and waited 24 hours but then just exchanged via amazon. The second one I got a couple days later had the same behavior so I just returned it and got a lian li galahad from my local microcenter and that worked. Amazon being amazon I wonder if I just happened to have gotten 2 that had already been returned for this issue but "looked" fine to amazon's returns... Anyway, after those 2 returns I finally got a response *two weeks* later from Arctic's support that gave a few trouble shooting steps. I realize you said customer relations and not support, but I have to say I was pretty disappointed. I guess nobody has good support anymore, but 2 weeks to acknowledge a case was just egregious.

Just did this repair myself, and it's simple _unless_ you decide to "go the whole hog" and replace the coolant too, in which case Steve is right: you'll want to grow another hand, and if you can't get that, either wrangle a bystander or get yourself one of those "helping hand" tools. It needs around 350mL of coolant, which I determined by emptying and then refilling it with distilled water to flush out any remaining gunk. I'm not sure what I'll use the remaining half-bottle of EK Cryofuel for - if anything - but in the meantime it'll sit on my shelf as a nice reminder that I, too, can feel like a badass by going above and beyond. Oh and BTW, the replacement coldplate is flatter than my original, so my temps actually improved as part of this fix 😅

Without additional context this alone is a terrible reason to decide to switch producers. Imagine the following: (car brands picked at random) You *are driving* Renaults for all your adult life and *never had a single issue* with them. You *hear* that Ford is doing free replacements of *faulty break pipes*. You now decide to buy Ford due to them *fixing* an error that could cause *total failure*, which should be a matter of course, instead of keeping to your Renaults that in your *personal experience* had *no issues* in the first place. This is essentially what you are proclaiming here. There are two major issues: you are a) favoring a producer that is known to include grievous errors in their production and b) you choose to follow hearsay rather than experience. Don't be a sheep. Artic definitely deserves a praise for this! On a side note, this is why I went back to a traditional heatsink/fan setup. Not throwing off on those who use AIO coolers, it's just a matter of reliability for me. I've had three AIO units fail( Enermax on my 1950x lucky it did not fry my 1080 ti, Corsiar H100 leaked with a 2600k and ruined a Nvidia 670, and Cooler Master leak also). I use a Noctua NH-U12A chromax with my 12900k now with no worries. Maybe I've had bad luck, but this is another example of why I don't trust AIOs. Yes Artic is a great company, the AIO are impressive, and they went out of their way to correct the issue but it's still an example of what can go wrong with any AIO setup no matter which company makes it.

Even Arctics air coolers are impressive - I'm using the Freezer 34 eSports single fan with a 5950x w/PBO @180W PPT and it runs quiet and pretty cool for what it is!

@@paladinsk2 I've never used Artic Air Coolers but I have used Artic fans in many builds for people who want a solid budget fan setup. No issues at all with their fans!

I've always thought Arctic was a budget brand, but now I think I can trust them, if they're willing to go to lengths to fix the problem. it's good PR and good marketing.

Arctic are a stand up company. I contacted them about a screw size query and the fellow replying to me helped me quickly and sent me the screws for FREE! I was only looking for the dimensions so I could buy them, Arctic are the good guys.

That is such a great way to help your customers and potential customers! You keep your current customers happy. And should people see how a company handles these issues may become a customer based solely on that. Great job!

Arctic is a amazing company, best cooler and amazing service. Also their thermal paste is amazing to use, it's a bit thinner then other high end pastes.

This is great, it's something you can't even reliably test beforehand. So props from Arctic from reacting as soon as they found out about it. NZXT's and Gigabyte's cases you can completely test long before the device even ships.

Thanks for the video. I bought my Liquid Freezer 2 in January and probably would have never known about this issue without you.
