Today we are setting up the camshaft and timing on the Arctic cat 650h1 motor. There is a method to do this you need the piston to be at top dead centre and when the camshaft is install there is 2 timing marks that need to align with the head of the 650h1 motor. By doing this you ensure the timing is correct. Make sure everything is lubed with break in oil so that when the motor is first started it won't run dry causing further damage. The hardest part of doing the timing in the Arctic cat 650h1 motor is getting the camshaft and sprocket chain on. Once the chain is on you'll also need to align it so that when the chain tensioner is installed the engine is still timed.

Thanks for the upload! The comments from people complaining should NOT be doing this kind of a job. Keep the great videos coming!
the plate that bolts to the cam is to cover the dowel for the cam (keeping it from coming out), it's a retainer. I'd recommend fixing that plate the right way.
I like! Keep it up!
Great job
When timing, cam sprocket can be installed first if cam tensioner is pulled. It’s tight but the chain will go onto the sprocket. Make sure you remove the c clip from the cam which will allow a little more movement to guide the chain on. Also, the line on the end of the cam should face slightly forward. As you said, tensioner will rotate the cam counter clockwise when released. Most importantly, cam lobes should be facing towards the downward position. If lobes are upward, you’re 180 degrees out.
Very helpful. Thank you
Where does the C clip go on the camshaft, I have a 300CC I got in a box have it figured except the c-clip. I could see it in your video on rag of parts and you mentioned don't forget to put c clip in but I do not know where. Ready to button up once I figure it out. Thank You
It’s got the intake lobe starting to open them valves and I get a lot of air in airbox and suction into the muffler when cranking over
So I found a loose bolt on the side of the engine , and decided to pull it out and see what it was........ Unfortunately it was the camshaft tensioner pivot bolt....... Help!!! how can I get it back in place? Can I come in from the bottom (thru chain tensioner) or can I remove head and fish it back up? Yes I heard it drop................ Thanks for any help.
Can you put the longer chain guide in with the head on
My 2017 artic cat stalled and wouldn’t start and after watching this my lower end is at tdc and the cam timing is off almost to the 11 o’clock position, now that being said would my valves be bent? Was no noise or anything just stalled and what would cause that?
What did you torque the head bolts to? The manual says like 25 but that seems very low for a head ?
Hi how do you get the timing chain back over the bottom crank gear
How do you get the ( other) chain guide place?
How are you turning it over
Not a bad job but you forgot to tell people how not to get the cam 180 out.. Very important detail.

So what is the correct way to check the cam so I make sure it's not 180° out?

@@Triple151 have the cam lobes facing down should be 2 holes in top of cam for pumping oil if I’m not mistaking. Have lobes facing down and the lines even with your head
I have a artic cat altera 500 2018 am getting two code p016 and p0261
How do you turn the crank to see the top dead center mark when the stator cover is on. I am about to do this on my 1000.

I know this comment is 2 years late, however for someone else needing the help, here you go. Take the cover off where the pull start would be (under the top dead centre arrow on the crankcase) then use an allen socket to remove the top dead center plug (so you can see the top dead center line on the flywheel in the crankcase ) put the atv in neutral, remove the spark plug so there is no built up compression, use a 15mm socket on a breaker bar and put it on the bolt you just uncovered (the flywheel) using a flashlight, slowly turn counter clockwise until you see the TDC mark on the flywheel. Make sure you line it up with the TDC mark on the crankcase. He showed what it looks like in the video. That’s it….we’ll if you’re motor is being rebuilt in the atv and not on a bench that is. That’s what I do
I think I got my timing off because my 650 backfired though the carb and set it on fire I got it out fast no damage thank goodness but I have to start all over again thanks for the tips great video

Where can you find the timing chain
hey buddy you know the cylinder head torque spec
Just put a new head and piston, rings from a new pull out. When started up it started with no problems but the top end seems to get hit very quickly. Checked water pump etc and is cycling water. Afraid to run it at any length of time! My arctic cat 700 does not heat up like the 500 did. Any suggestions would be helpful. Was wondering if my oil pump is working correctly!?

Head gasket
You shine light into hole and then out so fast that noone gets to see the crank shaft timing mark
Hey man love the videos. I have a 05 h1 650. Had to tear apart and put all the guts into a new case. Had the timing 180 off because was pushimg compression oit the carb. I flipped it 180 but it barely cranks over like the decompression isnt working. Any idea? I following ur videos on everything. And set valves. Im lost! Any help would b appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No just pull off the clutch side cover behind the cvt and then remove the clutch. Shouldnt have to remove the head either

Squeeze the tabs on the cam bolts, never use a chisel it just cuts into it and makes it’s more prone to brake
I recommended you to removal that hut from your head bro
