I'm glad you found your issue...sometimes it is just as valuable to at least know what the issue isn't.

I tested the low speed coil and get no reading, and you say it should have around 155. wiring all tests good so should i replace the stator ? i am getting no fire at all

Great videos Blaine . I tested my stator out of a 440 Fan and the low speed read 145 and the high speed 15 (Cold) . Having an issue with the sled conking out after 15 mins or so of use. I tested the stator when hot after she quit and got 185 on the low speed and 17 on the high speed. If you give the sled 10 to 15 mins to cool down it will fire back up and run again. Do I have a bad stator ? Thanks

I've been having similar issues on my 97 z440. What did you find out? Was it the stator?

I’m testing my 1991 Jag 440 afs fan cooled. It runs but is missing. Had been fouling the mag (right) side plug. I have a few questions. 1) does the low speed coil actually run the lower RPMs then the high speed coil takes over at higher RPM? 2) Do these readings seem good? At 24 degrees outside my 3 prong tests at...between two males 144.5ohms...female to top left 16.8ohms...female to top right 160.2ohms. Currently heating it up under a tarp to get about 70 degrees to retry then I’ll let it get to operating temp to test it again. 3) I jumped the non yellow connectors on the 4 prong plug. Sled seems to run better in my yard but I can’t test it tonight because I’m in a city neighborhood. Is there a common electrical item that shorts out on these jags? I think the TSS is jumped already.

those stators don't go bad very often but normally the low speed coil measures closer to 155-160 and both in series measures closer to 170. So yes, it seems like the ohms on your stator are a little low. I've seen them run with the ohms a little low so check all of the easy stuff first before changing the stator out.

Hello blaine. im fighting with a 1995 puma 340. no spark. I have resistance coming from the top 2 males. i have no resistance coming from my bottom female and top left male. service manual tells me thats the trigger coil. suppose to be around 17ohms. no resistance rule out a bad stator?

No resistance for the 17 ohm coil means the stator is bad. www.outdoor-electric.com

Hi there so with the two wires jumped and running I should be able to test ac volts of yellow wires correct? Should it be 12-14 or so. Thanks

Correct. Before the regulator it will reach as high as 30 or more volts AC.

Now is a stator only for electric start? Or do you need a stator for pull start as well. New to the hobby not sure thx

both. A stator puts out voltage and the rest of the electrical system dictates whether it is only used for the ignition & lights or if you have a regulator/rectifier it'll use some of the AC voltage it puts out and convert it (thru the rectifier) to DC voltage so it can charge a battery.

Is 120 ohms out of spec on low speed?

It's a little harder to tell on the older stators but that coil range normally measures in the 150's on known good stators.
