Shard was one of the saddest characters to lose when Archie ended along side with the other freedom fighters, breezie, mina, scourge, and a whole bunch, there was so much character development that we missed out on.

Yeah, especially with how underutilized the characters are in the new canon. Cassie and Clove, Jian, Ben Muttski, etc.

May I ask why we cannot get this character back in IDW? Does Penders own him orr due to SEGA just leaving all the Archie Characters behind?

@@vanerey30 I'm pretty sure that it's the latter, as it feels like SEGA likes to pretend that Archie Sonic never happened. Especially when u consider how IDW Sonic characters get official merch and show up in the games, while Archie Sonic never got that kind of love and attention.

I liked this short analysis of Shard a lot. I feel like the spirit of Gamma, Emeryl, and Shard live on through Gemryl in some ways.

I swear sega always kills off robots that people love so much!

Man...it is unfortunate the fate that this character met after that whole Ken Penders lawsuit fiasco, he really showed some great potential of maybe being a possible successor to gemerl, anyways overall great video man.

4:16 Minor correction, it was more of a stalemate, but Metal decided that in the long run he couldn't beat Shard and so self-destructed to take him with him. They were both destroyed, although sadly only Metal was rebuilt. Also worth noting is that Shard almost got Metal to rebel against Eggman, only failing because of a built-in killswitch for rebellious thoughts.

This was a nice video, I always love people doing videos on the Archie sonic comics and it’s cool to see people talk about the obscure parts of those comics. I genuinely hope that this becomes a series, there’s so many different characters that people have no idea existed in the sonic franchise. It’s nice seeing you upload again and I can’t wait to see more.

I miss these guys.

We really need to see the characters from Satam and the Archie comics return and try and convince Sega to change their mind to allow the Sonic characters from the games to have family members as well as having those characters fall in love again because i think Sally is still perfect as a love interest to Sonic

While I personally disagree with the Sally as Sonic love interest part (let's not start a war, please), I agree with everything else. SEGA seems to have a problem with allowing the franchise to evolve and it's crucifying it from the inside out. Not helped by the fact that Ken Penders' authoritarianism with the Archie series basically scared SEGA into issuing those mandates.

sonic comics lore is so fascinating

thanks so much for this video! i had heard about shard, but really wanted some examples of his dialogue and whatnot. people have been bringing him up due to the metal sonic variant in sonic prime that's also cocky and chatty. but shard seems like a really cool character all around, prime's sonic was sort of a one-off one episode thing. either way, really fun to see all the different directions various writers choose to take metal sonics, especially taking sonic's own personality into account!

This is bizarre to find this character who has the same name as mine as well, dates back to an old ass sonic comic. It's actually kinda cool tbh.

Are we going to ignore that he defeated archie sonic?

Shard is one of my favorite sonic characters , his "death" made me cry😢

Shard is one of the best characters in Archie. He was barely in it, but his death still had so much impact. Even Metal Sonic 2.0 had a lot of great scenes with Shadow and Shard on being more than just a weapon, but not excepting it.
