Archie Battersbee: How Doctors Decided to Turn Off Life Support

This is how Doctors decided to turn off Archie Battersbee's life support. He has sadly died aged 12 of catastrophic brain damage.
Archie Battersbee died in hospital on Saturday after weeks of legal battles. The 12-year-old had been in a coma since he was found unconscious by his mother Hollie Dance in April.

I've always thought it takes a special kind of person to be a doctor or nurse they are brilliant at what they do and are very caring I bet they can't finish a shift go home and switch off it must be traumatic for anyone involved in turning a life support machine off total respect to them all

I am a trauma nurse I am also suffering from depicting crushing mental health issues due to being the one to give permission to stopping and administering CPR after a sudden loss of life of some one I loved and turning off life support I also had to decide to euthanise my dog who was like my child and I am someone who feels guilt of taking the life of a spider due to being a survivor of SA DV EA my OCD kicked in currently fighting cancer alone its horrific the families I console yet I can not do this for myself I work with the best team but the last 12 months have been lonely RIP Archie you may not have met he millions who saw you angel but your passing may have put in motion changes to help others in the same situation i am sharing my story not for pity but to say this is something that leaves a ripple effect that can destroy or instill courage I am currently treading water trying to stay afloat and very tearful with how my life became this and as no family should have to loose a child in this way Archie was is a beautiful soul taking too soon grieving is not seven stages time doesn't heal especially when like me the passings were the negligence of others and your voice is to small and your mind too hurt and weak to fight people responsible I admire the time his parents took away from his bedside as it was shown how backwards our laws are and the promise and strength shown by this family and how they hav each other unlike myself I am so overwhelmed by the support shown to Archie and family and I think that medical staff are put in a very sensitive and horrific situation 💛

Thank you so much for your beautiful comment. What a kind and thoughtful reflection. As healthcare professionals, we see and deal with traumatic situations every day. But it's easy for the general public to forget that, on top of that, we are dealing with our own traumas behind the scenes - family, health, wealth, and much more besides. We all deserve the little bit more kindness and empathy that this cruel world can afford us, so that we have the strength to keep going. I wish you every strength in coping with your struggles, and despite it all, managing to thrive and live a happy life ❤️

There is no UK statutory definition of death; therefore, the judicial system has relied exclusively on the historical neurological criteria of death articulated more than four decades ago and reaffirmed in 2008. Moreover since 2008 neuroscience has disproved the fundamental assumptions underpinning the code of practice about the brainstem being the single mediator of both consciousness and integrative function in humans. (Association of Anaesthetists).

There is no evidence it was a TikTok challenge. You maybe wise to remove that comment or risk being sued.

The police found no evidence it was TikTok. His phone was in another room, and all those doing TikTok challenges always record them. Nothing on his phone to suggest it was.

@@mandygriffin5241 Yes indeed it was suicide. The family was supported by a Christian organization and suicide is not so Christian and also the family wouldn't have the support of so many people if they all knew that Archie wanted to kill himself. The mother was acting out of pure guilt.

Stop using tiktok before they come for your video. It was a conscience choice made by himself. Please look up the case before you slander a company.

@@lordpembridge303 No one is holding him to the same accountability as an adult, I’m merely pointing out that he made a decision, that was permanent. He knew putting that robe around his neck could’ve resulted in something catastrophic. Conscience= making the right or wrong choice.

@@lordpembridge303 Just trying to say to them to not blame an app as something he was trying to experiment with. He knew something horrible was going to happen. Which is a CONSCIENCE choice. I’m not judging whether he made the right one. I’m just pointing out a FACT. At 12 years old, yes, we are able to make choices. Whether right or wrong. Do we know the impact of those choices? That’s different.
