Ok let's talk about the tutorial Creating a building Facade with the Shell tool in ARCHICAD gives you a lot of options. For most of the designs, even curved ones , there is no need to get into Grasshoppers. This ARCHICAD Speed Modeling tutorial gives you a great overview on, how to use the Shell tool and what options are available to adjust the Shell during modeling.

    Hi Carsten! Thanks for the tutorial. Question - Can you predetermine the extrusion depth of the cutouts prior to executing the operation?

    Good question but I don't think so. I will have a play around and see if it is possible.

    On 12:50, do I select the shell and press F5 so I can change the shape freely?? It doesn't seem to work for me

  • @ASMTechbase

    If this is in regards to tilting the top or bottom of the Shell then yes . Select - F5 - then make sure when you click on the shell , you DON"T click where the construction line is ( where the Shell starts tilting ) . If you not sure just try to click on a couple of different parts of the Shell until you can choose the - set end angle option in your pop up window.

  • @ASMTechbase

    @ASMTechbase

    the photo rendering settings are just a default I used for this tutorial, like outdoor daylight medium. I did work on the glass and "copper" material a bit to get the right look.

  • @ASMTechbase

    If you use some render setting you are very happy with you can save them as a default for yourself. If you click in the photo render settings, the pull down menu next to the scene has an option called: Store scene as . You can save you settings there and reload them at anytime under : Select and manage scenes.

    In 3D click and hold left mouse button on a node at top of shell, then choose - edit extrusion length. Hope this is what you are after.

    I do have to agree, there is huge potential in the Shell and morph tool if you like to create a more curvy design and all this with ease of use. Not to forget that large projects are handled great in ARCHICAD especially in 3D .

    If you see this comment ,can you please let me know if you are speeding up the video when you are working after you have shown us how to do it. Ex. you're just completing the holes. Or is that the actual speed that you can work at? 🤦‍♂️ Thanks from the land down under.

    Ha, I wish not even I am that fast. I do speed small sections of the video up sometimes to not bore the viewer with repetitive stuff.
