    Thank you Jake for another great video. What you are doing for the Archery community is marvellous and you explain things so well! I used to shoot 36lbs so always had to shoot with the sight on the inside of the riser at 100 yds. Then they came up with carbon arrows 😊😊😊!

    Thank u for the video came to check how to adjust the sighter for my son as his sighter is lowered the the possible measurement and he is no way near the board because of lower draw length. Using this video learnt we can adjust the sighter bar too to get the distance. Thank u so much.

    To determine the direction of adjustment with the knob, use you left hand. Curl your index to little finger clockwise and stick up your thumb, that means the pin is going to move up if you turn the knob clockwise. This can also be used for windage knob too.

    I changed mounting location of the vertical sight bar mounting to the horizontal bar, moving it up one set of holes. This helped me get more distance as well. Do you see an issue with this method - as long as you can still shoot 18m?

    Is it necessary to change anchor point and line-of-sight when moving from instinctive aiming to sight aiming? I brought my son to archery class early to tinker with a basic sight, which my son was using for the first time. I wanted him to experiment with using the sight and begin to learn how to dial in the settings. His coach came over and immediately started correcting a variety of issues with anchor point and line of sight, which he claimed had to change when using a sight versus instinctive aiming.

  • @lordcarnorjax8599

    A sight is one of those things that you really want to buy once, cry once because the cheap sights are pretty bad for adjustability, will rattle loose and drive you crazy till you buy a better one. The Avalon Tec One carbon is probably cheapest sight I'd recommend but you'll still want to take some purple Loctite to it to stop it rattling loose. If you can go for a Shibuya Double Click or W&W WS600 which are mid range sights you'll be better off again. Those sights aren't as micro adjustable as the Shibuya Ultima or Axcel Achieve (the two best sights on the market) but are rock solid. Learning what effect a sight setting change at each distance is certainly something you need to know. I've spent hours shooting at various distances and adjusting the sight to see the effects. It's all written down in notebooks that are kept in my quiver and bow bag. Helped me out on the weekend when shooting a tournament in some very windy conditions. So windy I had a miss at 60M with a poor shot, can't remember the last time I had a miss at outdoor target.

    #©#©# I have NO PROBLEMS shooting 70m competitively at my club with 25·2# offf the fingers .... BUT NOTE my gear ... 26# SF Axiom+ beginner limbs , at my 26·5" Draw Length (limb bolts wound in a bit) , Medallion XR arrows , 267 grains TOTAL WEIGHT , 16 strand BCY 652 fastflight bowstring , Sight Bar needed to be moved back to only half of its full 9" extension. ..... Hence , I recommend going NO LOWER THAN 28# offf the fingers if you want to reliably reach 70m. Compared to me , the next lowest poundage shooter at my club is 30# , and his Sight Bar is fully extended out the front. 21st September 2022 reply ... Sorry that I'm late to the party.

    Hi Jake, Loved your video about sights, quick question, is there a minimum distance that a sight is useful, I'm in the UK and shoot in my back garden using a 30 lb bow at 16 metres, and try as I might cannot set it up, sight is a Avalon TEC X Recurve, any help or info would be nice :-)

  • @thewiseowl

    @thewiseowl

    Mike, your sight block should be near the top of your sight at 16m, there is almost no arrow drop at that distance so maybe go to 10m, put your sight pin at its highest position then shoot a few arrows. Hopefully they go lower than where you are aiming and you can move the sight pin down until it's dialled in. Otherwise I'm sure your local club will be happy to help.

    I stumbled on a video last week (Chris Hill/ Olympic archery) where he put the sight on the riser, so it faced backwards - then ran the pin up and down the rail to check that when it was moved up/ down the rail, it ran parallel to the bowstring. Mine didn't - O Wow!! So all last season, every vertical change I made, was creating lateral errors :-( It took all of 2 minutes to fix it - just reset the clamping bolts where the extension bar is fixed to the sight rail. Looking to shoot straight this summer . . . when I get my group size back to where I left it last year . . And how's about an update on how Heather is progressing?
