Welcome to the club. I did this last year 3 months into shooting. I was at a 3d shoot last year on the 49th out of 50 targets, it was hot I was exhausted, I ranged the target set my sight pulled back and realized that I didn't load and arrow, I was using a index finger release and as I started to let down I squeezed off the trigger.... dry fire about 2/3 of the way. String popped off but didn't do any damage. I went Immediately to my bow shop and everyone in there kept saying welcome to the club. I felt so embarrassed, best lesson learned.

I was testing draw weight with a hand scale one time after installing new strings on my bow. When I got to fully draw, the scale slipped out of my hand that thing went flying into my laundry room door at Mach 30. 😂 blew it into a million pieces. The string popped off, but the bow was otherwise ok. My wife, however, was NOT ok. She was PISSED. 😂 Also, nice upgrade to the drop away rest and peep. And that’s definitely a nice shop with a very nice indoor range. Always try to take your bow to an actual archery shop versus a big box store like cabela’s or bass pro. Way more selections for stuff, and generally more knowledgeable techs. Glad your bow is alright and you’re back to shooting.

Hey Brother. I'm glad you didn't get hurt. And that it was just a string and a couple of cables to swap out. I've dry fired 2 different bows and was lucky both times. All that was damaged was string and cables. I'm super conscious of it now and double check that my drop away rest is working and I have an arrow nocked. Keep grindin'. Archery isn't easy. It's seeking perfection in something that can't be perfected. #ABT Always Be Tinkering. Awesome that you have a local shop. I've had to learn my own bow maintenance because the closest shop to me is almost 2 hours away.

@@whatisarcheryhaha I know. I bet you were adjusting your bow, or doing something else other than focusing on the fact that the whole purpose of archery is throwing a projectile down range to hit something. None of the equipment means anything if the projectile isn't in the chamber lol Its the nature of compound archery. I have never dried fire my trad bow, its nearly impossible because you only have, the bow and the arrow and your aiming. No rests, sights, releases, bolts and stabilizers, dampeners, stops, cams, cables, strings, etc, etc lol. Compounds are another story, easy to get lost in the equipment and forget the essence of archery. Keep shootin'!

Yeah I had it happen when I first started, you lucked out lol when I did it.. it destroyed my cams. Another thing, a lot of bow shops will paper tune your bow and send you on your way… make sure you tell the bow tech that you want to shoot your bow through the paper since you’ll be the one shooting and hunting with it. Lancaster tried that with me a bunch of times and I had to tell them I am the one shooting my bow, not you. Everyone grips the bow differently… so that paper tune will vary. And remember paper tuning is just a starting point too. But yeah man… happy for you getting upgrades! Keep at it and stay positive always!

An arrow rest is awesome, whisker biscuits are good and entry level but he hooked it up with a rest, and the paper tuning looks solid and center. Still, watch out now. It didn't hit your face and that's a relief. Still it's a rookie or drunk mistake to do that so don't feel too bad in your case and never let someone else fire your bow unless it's absolute trust, Bows carry the same weight legally as guns. Also either they just had spare string around or you really like the color Green on your strings. I'm more of a yellow/gold and burgundy red myself.
