Good day Jake. I have, with mixed feelings, in starting to implement your breathing suggestions. Yes at first I felt I was hyperventilating. But after 2 weeks I am getting into a repeatable method of breathing and my groups are truly looking much, much better (now at about 2 out of six being of whereas it was more 2 out of 6 being close). This is truly a part of the shot cycle I neglected for to long. Thank you kindly for continually sharing the nuggets that bring it all together.

Your exemple of the typical "breath in and hold" is where I naturally am, and my issues ;-) . In competition environment, with the stress or any incident breaking my shooting rhythm (arrow wrongly nocked, clicker coming too early and need to reset, wind gust etc...), I found myself out of breath or in O2 deficit at the 5th or 6th arrow. Start shaking, blurred vision... The second inhale you describe during the transfer phase to refill in O2 and calm down is what I was looking for in term of "when is it the most appropriate"... I will start practicing this today, heading to the range now ;-)... Thank you so much for your videos!!!

Absolutely fantastic video! Not sure if it's on purpose but this video is not part of the Form Series or any other playlist. Personally this video helps a lot with my "longer" shots while still maintaining the back tension throughout the release and follow through

This is great. I was thinking about this as I was shooting yesterday and today: like "my breathing is all over the place. That cannot be helping my consistency". When I was soldiering, shooting rifle and pistol for a living (much simpler than bows. lemme tell you), through repeated practice I got to the point where I simply didn't need to think about breathing. Just did the cycle and fired the shot ('cept on combat simulation live firing ranges - 44lb combat load, skirmishing uphill, in the rain and mud, you kinda lose your edge a little. Gets even worse if it's the real deal and the range is two-way . . . ) I'm definitely coming back to this until I feel like I have it nailed down.

@@JakeKaminskiArchery It was harder than I expected, but I can really see the benefit. When I did it right it felt really good, but it was kind of like learning to swim- as you mentioned in the video, at first my body wanted to fight it. I've only been shooting for a few months and it also really highlighted some timing issues, made it much more clear where I'm not transitioning smoothly between the steps, b/c I kind of ended up holding my breath at those points. Going to keep practicing, both at the range and during the day with my "office bow" (a stick of bamboo w/ paracord). Again, thank you so much for your clear and helpful presentation.

Takes a bit of work to get this right, and its easy to forget mid end, but it definitely helps with rythm and steadiness a lot.

I really like the whole series, was an eye-opener for many respects for me (a lot of the small things I am getting wrong). However is this adaptable to a high anchor barebow style ? because it seems the whole thing breaks down once you try to anchor higher than under the jaw (f.e cheekbone anchor) ? I have not tried yet (just discovered this series 2 days ago and did not have the time to take out a bow).

So I've been working this week on changing from a inhale and hold to this Lee method. Now my eye dominance want to change from right eye to left eye .. WTH. Also having trouble keeping the draw to clicker and expansion. Honestly I feel like I've never shot archery before. Gotta break those habits. I'm old.

From the start of the shot to the end is about 8 seconds once you lift the bow. Add another second for an extra inhale/exhale prior.

these videos have been a huge help to me as i'm still pretty new to archery so questioning this seems kinda arrogant but surely by follow through the arrow is already in the target and what you do with your breathing is kinda irrelevant? am i missing something?
