Lightdm has a theme called lightdm-mini-greeter i think, which is super minimal and it shows only the password input. To reboot, ibernate, etc... u use shortcut. Loving it. Super cool and useful video😌☺️

I know this is a year old video, but lightdm-webkit2-greeter seems to be abandonware for ~5 years (the last release was in 2016, with a few minor bugfix/maintenance updates up until mid-2017), and the glorious theme hasn't been maintained for ~2 years. That's not to say it can't be used, but it should at least be noted that you probably won't be getting much support if something goes wrong

I like the ly aestehetics best but it has problems launching x server with nvidia graphic card. First i thought the problem lies with optimus-manager but it was ly dm being a tui app messes up. So i had to switch to startx configuring xinitrc. I also like sddm, but i don't like to be have to configure, it's hard to find a theme that i like. The best one i encounter as a minimalistic dark theme was sddm-slice theme. Even it's not exactly to my taste though. So i'm going with startx for now. My setup is on lenovo y50-70 optimus laptop with minimal arch installatiom with ratpoison wm.

I have a weird issue where my mouse pointer turns into the default "+" rather than an arrow when I use startx...but using lightdm fixes it. Any idea?

I'm not 100% sure, but what I do is that I create a file called .Xresources in my home directory and add this line: Xcursor.theme: {name of the theme} Xcursor.size: 16

I installed Hyprland with a script and I am starting to regret it. Because it came with gnome and a lot of stuff. Whereas I just want Wayland and nothing else, not even a File manager

Your ~/.xinitrc is missing some stuff, check the arch wiki to see what you're missing. Specifically the note in the purple box that reads "Note: At the very least, ensure that the last if block in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc is present in your ~/.xinitrc file to ensure that the scripts in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d are sourced." Hey you are one of those guys, who is not making videos of things to just have a nice looking is, but to have a functional os. But because most KZreadrs are focusing on look, they don’t really go into things like multi monitor setup. Are you using more than 2 monitors, and if so, how are you using them with awesome? I found it quite awful how awesome is not jumping to the monitor of the tag that I want to go to, but move the tag to the current monitor. Because of this behavior I went to bspw, which is not that good as awesome, but for me it’s a key feature. If you could do a video of that, that would be cool. I am not a good programmer, as I am a sysadmin. Yes I can do python and learnt lua a bit, but not enough to change this behavior by myself. Ps. You are my absolute favorite linux KZreadr. The content is on point and not too much nonsense talking like others do…

I think the issue you are running into is in awesome each monitor has it's own set of 9 tags by default. I don't have the exact solution for your issue off the top of my head but maybe that will help you find the answer to your issue. Iirc you can set awesome to use the same set of tags across all monitors which may solve the issue.

@@mikereynolds1368 Currently i have no running awesome config and cant test it. But i have separated the tags, so that there is only one tag available. But as far as i know, when i had following on Display1: Tag1,Tag2; Display2: Tag3,Tag4, and my active display is Display1. When i then jump to Tag3, then the tags are like: Display1: Tag1,Tag2,Tag3; Display2: Tag4. Or it switched the Tags, i dont know anymore. And this annoyed me so much, it just didnt integrate in my workflow. Sometimes i think, maybe my workflow is just strange, but others had the same problem. I am willing to change my workflow, but i dont know how... So videos about workflows on dual monitor setups would be very useful, as this is mostly not discussed.

@@HR-ve7mc I'd watch a workflow video as well. From what you describe it sounds like you were using the "bring the tag to me" shortcut not the "jump to tag" shortcut. I'm not very well versed in Awesome but I seem to recall both options having shortcut in awesome. Next time you are in awesome hit super-s and a help box will pop-up with the key combos you can use. Hth

Try using xrandr command inside .xinitrc config file. Hopefully that should fix display resolution problem.

I tried that, for lightDM it will work, but you have to use .Xresources instead. Ly just doesn’t seem to read any of the files though, until it’s logging you in.
