Arashiyama has a LOT more than a bamboo grove [Japan vlog]

So many firsts in this vlog! First bamboo grove, Japanese gardens, matcha tea, boxed lunches! We start SUPER early because we heard the Arashiyama bamboo grove gets really crowded, but maybe we arrived TOO early.

We also visit the town of Arashiyama itself, enjoy views from the bridge, and eat some delicious lunch before heading to Sogenchi Garden, which is beautiful! From there, we take a little talked about entrance that drops us into maybe the most famous section of the bamboo grove. After that, we visit the Okochi Sanso Villa and Gardens - which again are beautiful! While there, we try matcha tea for the first time (it's included in the cost of admission!). After the tea, we take the Sagano Romantic train, which follows a river through a valley and the scenery is stunning!

    “Arashiyama” is consist of two Kanji which are Arashi ( Storm ) Yama (Mountain). So when you pronounce the word, it may be easier to say “Arashi-Yama”, imaging the meaning.

    Hi, 1. When was this shot? Can't be winter as in now right? 2. Where is the Sogochi garden? It isn't on Google Maps. Please use official names of places. 3. Which bridge was that? There is no such thing as Arashiyama Bridge. Arashiyama has many bridges.

  • @TalesFromOurPocket

    @TalesFromOurPocket

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi - 1 - shot 5 or 6 weeks ago. 2 - you're right, we misspelled it! Sogenchi Gardens. 3 - it's the main bridge and the one the city is known for. Leave the rail station, turn left on the main road and it's a few short blocks ahead of you (we genuinely didn't see other bridges while we were there). Per Google, this one was named Togetsu-kyo Bridge.

    I believe it was October 25th - but the exact fall color dates change every year (they change in the US as well!). Some years, the colors would be more vibrant at the end of October. This year they peaked in November. It's a bit of luck!

    Thanks for this video! What month of the year did you visit? Did you need to prebook the tickets for the "romantic train?!" And after your train trip, how did you get back? Did you return to Kyoto via the nearby JR train station?

    Hi, this was in late October a year ago. Because Japan had just opened, there weren't many tourists and we did not prebook the train. I'd probably recommend prebooking now, though! I think this is where you can do that: www.sagano-kanko.co.jp/en/reserve.php

    絶妙なカメラアングル。私たちは、ご夫妻のことしか考えていませんが。優秀なクルーのお蔭で、素晴らしい京都の景色が見られるんですね。こうしてみると、京都って 映えます。しかし、住むところじゃありません。盆地だから、冬寒いし、夏蒸し暑い。観光の街です。奥さんの名前 ヘザーさん って言うんですね。誰でも言いにくい言葉はあるもので。A RA SHI YA MA は、A音が続くので言いにくいかも。卑下する必要全然無し。RA―SHIがRIになるのよく分かる。だって、英語はドイツ語と同じ【子音の言語】だから当然です。イタリア人は得意。私は、10か国語勉強しています。それにしても、ご主人はスラッと言えますね。お見事❗

    Recommended places for foreign tourists to visit are: (1) Shikoku region, which includes the Seto Inland Sea and is rich in history and art; (2) The San'in region, home to Izumo Taisha and Japan's most beautiful gardens, where scenery from the mythical age still remains; ③The seven prefectures of Tohoku, where nature and local culture are thriving. (P.S.) Most Japanese don't go to Kyoto except for school trips.
