Arai Tour X5 (Tour Cross V) - Full helmet strip down guide

What better way to see what improvements Arai have made to their new Tour X5 (Tour Cross V) duel sport helmet, than by taking it apart too see it's finer details.
A lot of the features of the Tour-X5 fall in line with the rest of the Arai range, like the Peripherally Belted Laminate Construction, duel axis visor mechanism, the Dry-Cool® material used in the lining, emergency release cheek pads, customisable fit and a Double D-ring fastening.
The main features that Arai have really made huge improvements in are the visor/peak/side plate, construction and design. The Vas-A visor is also a huge improvement as well as the Tour-x5 being designed so that it will easily take a intercom.
In this video you'll see how to change the Tour-x5 helmet between it's three forms (Off road/On road/ Adventure). as well as how to remove and refit the visor, peak and internal lining.

That’s a really comprehensive review and tear down. Thank you. I own a Tour X4 and was wondering about how you go about peeling the various layers of foam in the liner to get a better fit. Thanks again

I’m sure the X5 is a great helmet but I’m disappointed it doesn’t include an internal sun visor and I’m disappointed that the visor/peak system requires tools to change out. For an $800 helmet, buyers are not getting much of an update over the old and tired XD4.

Hi ynotjf. Arai have always said that they will not compromise on safety. In their opinion, having a gap between the outer shell and the EPS liner in the frontal impact area, for a internal visor to slide into, would compromise some of a helmets safety. Instead of an internal visor, Arai developed the Pro Shade System which you can get on the Vas-v visor. Although the TX5 hasn't got an internal flip down visor, Arai have made it so that you can quickly and easily, without the need for tools, change visors from a clear to a tint. I think the biggest improvement with the TX5 is the Max Vison visor and pinlock, which could on occasion be a little bit unpredictable in the old TX4. Thank you for watching my video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

@@mymoto-uk - Thank You for the explanation. My question is other Manufacturers include internal sun visors and still meet ECE & DOT safety requirements. The Pro Shade is reported to be a great improvement over past generation photo-chromatic lenses but I prefer the drop down. Since the X5 is a Touring helmet, not a full Race helmet, I’d expect the prioritization of modern features over a bloated safety stance. Arai waited too long to upgrade the XD4 and has only made incremental improvements in the X5, other manufacturers are pulling ahead.. The Schuberth E2 is equal in safety & quality but includes modern features and cost less. I owned an XD4 for over 10 years but again, I’m disappointed in the X5.

The reason for the X5 not having vents in the visor is to make room for the larger pinloc 120XLT, according to Arai.

Thank you for all this information very helpful and complete. I use Arai since 1985 , for me is the best. I run the XD4 ( north america) since 2017 . and i m gonna change for the new XD5 ( north america) . About the 2 vent on the lense of the older version, I m sure they remove because is a weak point for water , when is raining very hard... sometimes you have water pass by this 2 vent......

Hi Fabien. That could possibly be it then. I have used the Arai RX7V’s for a few years and not had a problem with rain getting in the vents, although, the rain race visor for the RX7V hasn’t got the visor vents. Thank you for watching our video and thanks for leaving me a comment 👍

Nice video , Im definitely in the market for a new helmet and this looks great in many ways. Glad that the brow vents are gone as I dont like the water ingress they can allow. Also glad that they aren't messing about with internal drop down visors . If i want extra sun shade I will wear sun glass's or orange tint rain glass's. I like the clean aesthetic on the whole, just not convinced with the side pod arrangement atm though iIm sure I'd get used to it , doesn't look great if you were to have the thing painted though same with the front logo vent I a.ways desticker my helmets but I guess thats not possible now with out using some vinylover the raised logo vent section. Other than that I tried one on today and its a beautiful fit, as always for me with Arai product. Do you carry stock of these in medium in Leeds store?

@@mymoto-ukthanks for getting back to me. I was fitting a SENA intercom and removed the cheek and neck section but couldn’t get it back in easily but worked it out with a bit of manipulation. I couldn’t figure out how to use the rubber cable tidy parts and not seen them before. Thanks for the video.

Hi Graham. That’s interesting, you are the first person who we’ve come across that has said they don’t like it. Obviously, no one helmet will be perfect for everyone. What in particular was it that didn’t work for you with the Tour X5? Thank you for watching our video, it’s a shame that you didn’t like the helmet but we do really appreciate you leaving us a comment and we look forward to reading what it was you didn’t like.

@@mymoto-uk I'm currently going through Morocco (Day 7). Helmet is about 7 weeks old. The visor has already jammed on me, and the chin protector has also jammed. In fact the mechanism is supposed to be glued to the outer shell of the helmet and it seems to have seperated. Stripping, cleaning and lubing the visor was ok. The chin guard was an absolute nightmare. Also, at above 120kph the peak vibrates a lot. (I get I can take it off). It's been hot and a small bit dusty, the helmet is not holding up well. Helmet is the guts of €1000. Not worth it in my opinion. Stick to the X4, I get the peak is a pain to work with on that lid but at least it can hold up in warm dusty conditions. The vent switches also seem to be jamming a bit, but I haven't used those as much. Where as I've been using the visor and chin guard everyday.
