Arabian Nights: The Story of Shahriyar and Shahrazad | A Thousand Nights and a Night
The story begins with a Persian king who discovers that his wife has been unfaithful to him. He orders her execution and vows to marry a new bride each night, only to have her executed the following morning. Shahrazad, the daughter of a vizier, offers to marry the king and tells him a captivating story that leaves him wanting more, thus delaying her execution.

The story was composed as a frame for the "1001 Nights," a compilation of oral folktales gathered into one volume in Arabic. It is often known in English as the "Arabian Nights," from the first English-language edition (c. 1706-1721.) The tales came mostly from Persia, but also from Asia and North Africa. The framing story is Persian. Each night, Scheherazade (accepted Western spelling,) begins a story, but she won't finish it till the next night. This goes on for 1,001 nights.
