The nano Reef Challenge Competition Playlist: • Nano Reef Aquarium
The different Aquarium use: CaribSea Black Hawaiian, CaribSea Eco-Complete, CaribSea Fiji-Pink, and Black inert sand.
Aquarium reef black sand comparison, each black sand is slightly different depending on the source where they come from.
There's also another sand that some planted tank use: Black diamond blasting amzn.to/2XGKv5l but I wouldn't recommend if for a reef aquarium.
I will make an ICP test with the Fauna Marin to know what does it leach, if there is anything dangerous, subscribe to the channel to be aware of the result ;)
The black sand is mainly made of rock igneous volcano rock, it does contain many elements like Iron, therefore I do not recommend to use any magnet to scratch the glass of your aquarium.

I have purchased cultivated life Rock in 2017 with black spots, which look like your black sand. The black stuff in my rock released heavy metals. The black spot was even magnetic (Iron, cobalt, nickel) like yours, but also contained copper!!! It is really a good idea to make a icp after a while!

@@AquaSplendor No, it was a "no name" product of my local reef store in Germany. Therefore, caribsea is maybe reef save. As long you don't trust and test is all fine.

I have had all black livesand and I have also had this Livesand that has white in it... I tried to love the all black livesand but it became like a redish black over time... Now the black and white sand on the other hand looked beautiful no matter how much time went by...What I did was scoop out the sand with my hand and then give it a shake in the tank whie the tank had water in it...The white sand fell mostly to the bottom then I dropped the black sand on top..when I was finished the top was mostly black so then I grabbed the white sand and dashed it over the top with my hand which created a beautiful look....I specifically cane here to see what sand it was as I'm starting a new tank ...been years since I used this sand ...

Just like someone else said back in the day the black used to be all black. It's disappointing it's not anymore. My first saltwater aquarium I did was all black sand. I just started back up reefing after 6 years and wanted blacl sand. Much to my disappointment I was in your same boat. I ended up going with the black gravel which wasn't too bad and I was able to pick most of the brown pieces out. I would have preferred finer sand but the gravel isn't bad and I am happy with it. I love the black Substrat look! 😎👍🏻 By the way, props for using Brightwell Aquatics! They're my favorite!

Great! I hesitate to show a diamond sand blast sand, I didn't included it because I know some of them contain silicate which is not good for corals 🤔

@@AquaSplendor there is some debate on whether it’s safe for fish OR humans as it contains iron, calcium, aluminum, and magnesium, which, when inhaled as a dust is harmful to people, and not sure what it’s effect would be on fish. I’ve also heard reports of oils coming off of it when it is rinsed. A lot of people really like it though, I’ve personally decided not to try it, but if you wear a ventilator/mask and rinse it VERY thouroughly perhaps it would be just fine. Some people claim the metals are inert in water, so that would be good if true.

Wow - it should be only black - why do they mix in the white? Crazy. I saw those really black reef branches and I always thought that in a 60g cube with the black sand and a G5 blue would make the ultimate LPS tank - maybe a couple of of montis and an acro at the top. Ahhhh so disappointing. But I have heard before a lot of people say the black sand is not good long term... I don't care about light reflection... they said it turns a bit speckled - I thought that was with detritous or something... not because it comes speckled.

  • @AquaSplendor

The mix, help because of aragonite is calcium carbonate which help ph and other minor thing i think. I will try it on my nano aquarium, we shall see :)

@@AquaSplendor Yeah I get that... probably geared towards newer reefers. Can't wait to see the ICP tests... I got Red Sea Pink on my RSR250 but only have 40% of the bottom covered. I would go black in an LPS and if it is a pH thing (I doubt it unless the volcanic sand reduces pH) how much impact can it have but you can just put normal sand in the sump. I will go natures ocean if I ever go it. The thing is they recommend white sand because it reflects light but over that they recommend bar bottom which doesn't reflect light. So if the black sand (natures ocean) is heavier then it's probably awesome. ATI sand is also heavier but they only have dry white. Also the iron will be a massive benefit I think especially if you run a fuge. I think that is a big reason why Miracle Mud is so popular.
