A friend of mine bought his a7iv around the same time I bought my zve10 for a trip to Argentina, and by day 2 of the trip, he had grown incredibly jealous of Lil Doug and how small/portable it was, the versatility/ range of my tamron 18-200mm, and was almost ready to fight me when he saw the quality of the photos and realized I had spent a third on my setup than he had for his. Unless I go professional with my photography, APSC is for me.

What your friend wants is small camera, a7cII is the answer and those small pancake-ish lens of unique aperture f2.5 (or just use APSC lens to be 14.67MP crop mode) Honestly, I prefer MFT for travelling but the update for compact stuffs are non existent nowadays. Bought used lx100 for cheap and man that's like a zoom lens all in one for me. 24-75mm f3.4-5.6 fullframe equivalent (or 16-50 f2.8-4 APSC equivalent )for just 400g (camera+lens). It's gonna really hard to beat that.

The myth that "APS-C" can not be "professional" is an absolute joke ! Have you had a look at which kind of sensor is used in such cinema cameras as Arri Alexa 35 ? If not, do so. And make sure you also read the price tag attached to it, it shall change a few things in your mind about those sensors being "cheap" ! There is no "cropped" sensor... only different sensors sizes. And the only "full frame" there is, actually is the size found in photographic chambers (for instance 10x15 cm, 20x25 cm and beyond). These are the references, the standards to measure all other ones and, based on that, the nicknamed "full frame" is a small sensor. Why is it called "full frame" ? Simply because it has the same dimensions as the film surface found in classical SLR camera ( = 24x36 mm). Don't let names and nicknames fool you, don't let those "experts" fool you. They pretend, but they hardly deliver. I have shot professionally with a camera with a 8.8x13.2mm sensor (also nicknamed "1 inch sensor") for the last 5 years, and the pictures out of it just rock. Event those "experts" have it hard to believe they come from a camera with such a "small" sensor. Use the camera you have and/or can afford. Use it the best possible way, and you'll surprise yourself with the results.

Yes, the viltrox 27mm and 75mm lenses are offering FF quality in terms of DOF, but they also bring with them the FF weight penalty. Nevertheless, good to know that you can stay with a APS-C setup while still getting full frame IQ and at a cheaper price as long as you don't mind the weight.

I got the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 for my A6700 as soon as it released. Great sharpness, bokeh, focus, build quality + custom buttons & dials. I like this lens so much that I'm considering replacing my Sigma 56mm f1.4 to a Viltrox 75mm f1.2 Now Viltrox needs to make some awesome zooms for APS-C and I'd be even happier

Question: for product photography, small business media (i.e., community spotlights, IG reels, etc.), and some architecture/street photography, would you go with a Sony a6700 paired with both the Viltrox 27mm and 75mm f1.2, or for almost 1.5x the price, choose a full-frame, Sony a7cii paired with 20-70 f4. Cost is not a significant factor, although saving almost $1700 CAD would be nice. Just wondering pros and cons to either setup, and whether or not the full-frame may be overkill as I am a total beginner. Thanks!

Wouldn’t they eliminate (or in the case of 1.4x come very close to eliminating) the vignette while also allowing the full frame camera to capture at its max pixel resolution? Why is this not something people seem to do? Maybe you could make a video on this topic 😊

Hi @MarkBennettCameraCrisis, it's a great review. I am a beginner and I have a Nikon Zf (24.5 Megapixel), so does that mean if I use this lens then the megapixel will drop to 12.25 Megapixel? Also I understand that the 27mm will become 40mm equivalent. But how about the aperture? Will it still be 1.2 or it will become 1.8? I already have a “NIKKOR Z 40MM F/2 (SE)”, I am just wondering thinking would it be similar to this Nikkor F/2 lens? I want to get a large Aperture lens so I can get a better low light photo and video and also better bokeh. So if it’s similar to 40mm F/2. Then there is no point for me to buy this lens if the aperture will become 1.8 when I put it on my Nikon Zf. I am just a little confuse could you please advise if that’s okay with you. Many thanks!

100% agree with your pros & cons. These Viltrox Pro’s are amazing optically, but the weight made them very front-heavy on small APS-C camera bodies. It would be perfect if Viltrox keep the same optics but without the “Pro” features (no need for an aperture ring) so the lens can be 150g lighter (how about Viltrox Pro2’s, like the Sony GM2’s?). I brought my 75f/1.2 to Japan the photos were great but it was not enjoyable to use shooting handheld wide open with DMF. I was much happier with my A7C2+85f/1.8 (the 50f/1.8 was even lighter). Makes a big difference when walking 20000 steps daily.

Wow, I bought all my lenses too early. Since you own a bunch of cameras of types and styles, do you see any difference in still mages made by the a6600 vs the a6700? In my testing and very controlled shooting stills, I see very little difference (if any) between the a6700 and A74, but I see quite a bit compared to my A7R3. In choosing a lens to use on my ZV-E10, that Sony 11mm 1.8 is a winner. Light lens on a light body.

You are my aps c voice of reason! I’m just learning how to become a good shooter and aps c gives me great quality at a price I can justify at this point in my development. Comparing aps c to full frame performance while never acknowledging the substantial price difference is ridiculous! If both format cameras were identical in price and features and the aps c performed poorly compared to the full frame, then the criticism would be justified. If two cars were identical but one of them had the super charged v8 upgrade for an xtra $2,500, no one would even bother to compare them. Except maybe a full frame snob. Lol

The 18-50 is great optically. of course it’s a 2.8 so no where near as good in lowlight or for shallow depth of field, but the image on the 18-50 is great. I think the the only reason to get that 16-35 for apsc if you have the 18-50, is if you plan to also use it on full frame cameras.

YES! When my Viltrox 27mm F1.2 arrived two weeks ago (preorder on December 26th, 2023), I was completely amazed. Both on my ZV-E10 and on my a6700, simply a dream. It replaces the good old Sigma 16mm F1.4. The image quality is worlds apart. In particular, the lateral CAs have almost completely disappeared with the Viltrox compared to the Sigma. And after this flash I also ordered the Viltrox 75mm F1.2. It will be there Saturday. So my PGYTECH OneMo 2 45l is filled with the a6700 on the Tamron 150-500 and the small additional bag carries the ZV-E10 with the two Viltrox lenses 27mm and 75mm, plus the Nisi 9mm F2.8. It's a gem if you want to capture really wide-angle shots with razor sharpness. In my backpack, just in case, I have the Vitrox 13mm F1.4 and the Tamron 17-70. My Sigma 16mm and Tamron 18-300 are going on sale!

this is an apsc lens, but the crop factor refers to the sensor. So you always need to multiply by 1.5 to get the full frame field of view on an apsc camera. so this would be the full frame equivalent of a 41mm lens.

Took some pictures in the fading evening light which just came out great, superb colours, and no need to push the ISO. I agree the weight is a problem and on the A6400, my fingers get pinched between the lens and the handgrip, but eh you gotta suffer for quality like this. Only cost me 420GBP so cheaper than the Sigma 23mm 1.4 which is crazy. Would love a 56mm 1.2 version of this series, 75mm is maybe a bit limiting, but I am sure I will get that one anyway!

The Yongnuo 11 is great for people who want the Sony 11 on a budget. The Viltrox 27 is for people who want optical brilliance for video at documentary distance and for street photography at the 27mm focal length (which is very different than the 11). The viltrox 27 is not a wide angle, and can’t be used for vlogging

One more question if you find the time. I am new to video cameras. I have a solid photography camera. So my first budget camera pickup was a ZV E10. Im torn on building my lens collection for the Sony when I know ultimately my goal is to upgrade to a better camera. If I stay within Sony then the lenses I buy now may actually work perfectly for the new camera down the line. But I've heard/read reviews that everything from the ZV E1 to the A7IV all overheat in 17 mins or so. I'm not planning to do professional cinema shooting or all day shoots. But for around $2k I would be bummed if my camera shut down from heat. Where I hear the Lumix s5II doesn't have that issue. Use case for me would be the occasional Vlog and maybe trying to get into some artsy videos down the line. TLDR: Do you have overheating issues? What would be your path, stick Sony or dive into Lumix?
