get outta here, bland and unoriginal 💀
I recently read The Adventures of Amina Al-Sirafi and I really enjoyed it but I had a similar reaction to you on the more fantastically elements. I love a good fantasy but the way it was used so heavily in the second half of the story made it feel like I was reading a completely different book. I would definitely read a sequel or prequel though.

glad I'm not alone in my thoughts on that one!
I love Frieren too! I just finished vol. 9 today and can't wait to read the rest! I also watched the anime and I'm so so sad that there aren't any more seasons :´(

I'm just waiting for Fern and Stark to finally confess their love for each other! Also, lol, when Frieren ate cake during the ball refusing to dance - top tier Frieren moment haha

I'm so glad you enjoyed the Bridge Kingdom! I'm almost done with The Traitor Queen and although I'm enjoying it book 1 is so much better in my opinion. I'm curious to see what you think.

I feel like I was expecting book 2 to not be as good as book 1, so my expectations are prepared haha

I read Fourth Wing in April but last few weeks of April was me reading Iron Flame which I'm still on. They are big books but great reads. I want another novel similar to this series but when I finish Iron Flame I don't know what next to read.

I've yet to find a fantasy series with dragons that I enjoy. However, people have left so many dragon recommendations in the comments on my dragon themed vlog I posted a few weeks back if you wanna peak at the recommendations!
Congrats! 16 books is amazing! I read 13, and I'm sure I only managed it because for the first week and half of April my job didn't have any normal classes to teach or much for me to do, so I just sat reading for about 6+ hours. I did also DNF a few, though, which is always sad. On the plus side, I read "The Dead Romantics," which is now one of my favorite romance and introduced me to a romance author who doesn't seem to write smut, which my Ace self loves.

omg yay for finding a new favorite! glad you had some extra reading hours last month!
I have the same opinion on Priory, I was so disappointed with the end I was just like “that’s it?”

Frieren is sooo good. I watched Spy X Family Code White in theaters this weekend with my family and enjoying that series as well. Glad you found some other books to enjoy this month. Felt so bad for all the dnfs. Happy reading!

oh no, hopefully you don't fall into a slump!
Have you ever watch Attack on Titan? My family is obsessed and they are not the type to watch anime! And I have yet to watch more than the first episode but I plan to soon!

I have not, I have heard wonderful things about it, I just don't know if it'll be something I particularly like haha
I had pretty much the same thoughts as you after reading the 5th Heartstopper graphic novel even though I am the same age as the main characters. It just didn’t sit right with me.

There are a few creators that I watch even though our bookish tastes don’t generally overlap much. I just adore the way you create content and talk about books. I’d like to dip my toe into fantasy books. (I typically read mostly thriller/horror/mystery.) What would you suggest to me as someone who’s new to the fantasy genre? 💜

awe that makes me so happy! 🤧🫶 Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson is a good place to dip your toes into, it has a cool magic system and is a standalone. A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab is also great fantasy series and it's a bit more YA leaning in my opinion.
I read a good amount in April but they all kinda felt like meh books/I just couldn't properly get into them. Schedule wise my April was weird so I'm gonna blame it on that

It’s wild how some people get insulted by someone else’s opinion. I also agree that a lot of books nowadays drag also I feel like it’s just fluff to make a longer book and there’s a lot of books that definitely can be cut shorter without effecting the story. A lot of the fluff is like writing a school essay it’s the same shit being said different ways. I just dnf at this point. Authors also need to understand readers do realize this it’s very noticeable.

I'm glad I'm not alone in that feeling 😂 it's hard too because it's not like I'm having a conversation where I can consider different opinions, it's just me and my camera chatting up what I think about it haha
You mentioned people being upset about the fact that you didn’t enjoy Priory when you included it in your reading vlog, but I think that it was the way in which you shared that opinion rather than the opinion itself that led to people having that reaction. I love hearing differing opinions, even on books that I enjoyed, but that video was a bit of a turn off for me, too. I wasn’t bothered enough that I felt the need to post anything negative on it, but just some perspective on the response you did receive and why folks might have been upset.
