@@nobody-qc7xcI’m gonna guess it’s the change in characterization. At the beginning of the series he was a normal guy with a boring job and personal life who was playing the straight man to Leslie’s eccentricity. Then as the series went on, Tom became more eccentric then Leslie, and turned into selfish, whiny little scumbag with comically decadent tastes. I also noticed his voice got higher pitched, which doesn’t have much to do with characterization, it’s just obnoxious.

April’s journey is one that so many young adults need to go on tbh. Most of us just kinda get stuck in whatever decision either us or our parents made for us back in high school and… that’s not right for everyone. I went into psychology for years cause that was my college major, and it wasn’t right for me. It takes guts to re-examine and acknowledge that you want and deserve a better life for yourself. Even though the “American Service Foundation” doesn’t exist, there are plenty of similar organizations out there to help identify someone’s interests and get them on the right career path for them, and I HIGHLY encourage anyone who wants better for themselves to look into said programs.

Problem: you need the motivation first. The only reason for me to earn an income is to keep myself alive, but my parents' pension is enough to sustain the three of us and I don't really have any other reason to stay alive after they check out.

We all need a friend like Leslie Knope.
The further into my 20s I get, the more I relate to April's journey. I'm currently 23 and working in a job I kinda fell backwards into after graduating from college last spring, honestly really similar to how April got her job as Ron's Assistant. It's a nice spot to be in, I like the people I'm working with plenty, but four months in, I already know I'm not going to be working there five years from now. This work will never make me fully happy. I just hope I can find the right people to help me when I'm ready to move on like April did.

If you are happy or have fun at your job that’s great but they aren’t paying you to be happy or have fun, they are paying you to work and the purpose of work isn’t to make you happy or have fun. If anything is killing the world it’s your mindset, many of the most important jobs for society are not fun for anyone. Also the idea that doing work that isn’t fun means it will be stressful and then further elaborating that this stress must also come home with you because there is no escape from it. If happiness is your goal in life then you will be disappointed, even if you get the funnest job in the world and it makes you happy you won’t always be happy. When tragedy strikes you will be lost if you make happiness your priority in life.

Work doesn’t make you happy; you make yourself happy. Work is work, that’s why you get paid for it. Don’t do work you absolutely hate by all means but seeking happiness in a career is a fools errand. Find something that challenges you or at least you find somewhat interesting; have interests and relationships to round out your life… that’s where the sweet spot is. There is no perfect job.

I’ve always appreciated the realism of April ending up in a career path that had nothing to do with any of her big interests as a teen / young adult, but that nonetheless fit her skills and the type of work she liked doing. It would have been easy for the writers to put her in an office job that had something to do with animals, but they didn’t, and I like that. She can be passionate about animals without making that her job!
As crazy as Leslie is, she loves with all her heart. She is ambitious and quirky in an establishment that usually only likes ambitious. Quirky nowadays Fetterman has us covered.
This is one of the best 'April' videos I've ever seen. Good job Parks and Recreation channel.
