Hi Lucy 👋 I don't think that you'll remember me but I applied to a post within your service. I couldn't relocate to Bath eventually but I want to thank you for the interview. You were lovely and very proud of your work, expressed emotions and made me feel hopeful to apply this year to the doctorate 🚀 I didn't know by then that you were as passionate about third wave approaches as I am. It was a happy surprise finding this video 💛

Good evening and welcome to our first webinar in the 'Applying to Clinical Psychology' series. Apologies it's a little dry- we hope that the content is useful! Do chat and comment as we go through the presentation and we will do out best to answer any questions that you have. There will also be a live Q&A afterwards on the Facebook Page in the Clinical Psychology Applicants Support Group: facebook.com/groups/dclinpsysupport/

So helpful, thank you :) !! I'm making my first ever application this year and trying not to take myself too seriously. I didn't know much about the ACT, but those points at the end were solid life-advice! Something that surprised me was that in your condensing examples you omitted phrases such as "I have increased my knowledge of...". In my draft, I've used similar phrases in order to clearly emphasise what my learning process has been (rather than simply explain what services should do). This form is so tricky!

Thanks for your comment. If you are interested in ACT check out our other series on the channel, which complement the group we are running ‘ACT Mindfully’ on Facebook - facebook.com/groups/792256788243366/?source_id=102364091546249 I think it’s fine to include phrases such as that, just be mindful to not to use too many excess characters/words and be sure to make what you are saying clear concise and not too wordy. Always ask yourself- could I say this more succinctly and am I maximising word count? For example turning ‘I have increased my knowledge of...’ to ‘supervision/delivering therapy/undertaking research has increased my knowledge of...’ you are speaking to a key point or skill whilst showing your learning process.

Hi, thank you for your video. It's been really helpful since applications opened. I have a question which I hope doesn't sound silly. You mention the 'CV section' several times throughout this video, but I can't say I've seen one at any point on my application form. There is a section for experience, but there is a 200 character limit, so hardly any space to speak about skills. Have I missed something, perhaps? Any help you could give would be hugely appreciated as I feel a bit panicky that I've missed something.

Hi yes the cv section is the work experience section. It can be helpful to bullet point all the duties performed in this section to aid succinct sharing of the breadth of responsibilities undertaken in each role. Skills should then be spoken about in the personal statements section.

Will this video be available after the live version? I'm viewing this from a different time zone and it's quite late in night.

That’s a good question. Unfortunately I can’t speak to that but I can try and put you in touch with someone who has had that experience?
