Applying Danish Oil & Fretwork | Project Mehr | Guitar Build Log Part 7

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Are you ready for this?! The episode you've all been waiting for (minus the finale, of course :P) Today we finally put Danish Oil on this guitar and do some fretwork / polishing of the frets. Be ready for a lot of grain pop and discussion around guitar finishing in general as well as a nearly fatal issue with the neck. We are now ready to install all the hardware, do the wiring / cavity cover, and string it up.
This guitar is looking incredible, and other than a few small issues here and there, I couldn't be happier!

It's my favorite 😍 though most of my projects have been mahogany, everytime I work with walnut I always wish I worked with it more Fun fact, the wenge fretboard is super smooth and smells like chocolate/coffee when machined 😀

@@austinshaner Nice, I want to plant some black walnut trees. I have a few pieces of it that are too large for me to machine at the moment but hopefully they have a future as some cool anyway.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this finished up. Looks awesome. Thanks for an incredible series, I learned so much. Trying to design my first guitar in fusion 360 now, it's so helpful to have your videos to reference.

The finish is fantastic, for me it needs no more sheen. I think the wood and wood choice does the talking. Thanks for sharing.

The more I look at it the more I agree. I only said that because I was initially aiming for a bit more. But I loved the way it turned out @ 3 coats :)

A very nice work, Austin! Congratulations! What wood did you use for the neck and fretboard? The body is mahogany and the top walnut I assume. Is that correct?

Does danish oil hold when its applied over metal? Reason I ask is I'm about to install brass side dots on a neck, and was considering a danish oil finish, and I'd prefer just to do that over the side dots so the brass doesn't tarnish rather than have to coat them with something.
