Apple reminds me of someone who had fallen victim to religious abuse. She genuinely believes bad things will happen if someone does do what they're supposed to, much like how committing any sort of sin will be a straight ticket to hell. She's also the daughter of the most prominent political figure in her world, so she feels like she has to set an example. Is she condescending and self-righteous? Yes. But she doesn't see it that way because that's what she had been groomed to be. It also could be a bit of projection. In the books and diaries, it's mentioned that she needs glasses but doesn't wear them because it's seen as an imperfection. In her mind, she could see this as "I'm sacrificing something of myself to make sure I'm doing the right thing, so you should be willing to do that too." It's a selfish, entitled, and naive mindset, but that's how Apple was taught. She may not be an entirely good person, but she's a great character.

I agree! A mindset like Apple's definitely hard to break out of and I give her credit for everything she does later in the series.

I disagree with you when you don't think the end of True Heart's Day doesn't show Apple's growth as a character. It is. Apple has finally acknowledged that her friends have the agency to make their own decisions and she doesn't have the right (or power) to stop them. All she can do is decide if she's going to let that end their friendship. Compared to how she pushed Raven to poison her even though Raven very clearly didn't want to, this is major growth. Regarding Apple's color scheme - I think the biggest reason Mattel gave her the colors red, gold, and white was to keep their butts from being sued by Disney for copying THEIR Snow White. That's why there's no blue in her outfit and why gold/yellow is merely an accent color rather than a large portion of the outfit.

I don't think Apple and Raven were switched at birth because they are as similar as they are different. Snow and Apple both hide their darker impulses behind their pure as snow images and while Raven and her mother may clash in their ideologies, they strive to change the status quo, Raven in her desire to find her own happily ever after and her mother in her desire to expand upon her own story. Raven and her mother also both have explosive tempers, but Raven usually tries to keep her cool while her mother uses it to enhance her evil image. Snow and Apple also share a willingness to preserve things as they are and tend to react negatively when something threatens it, but Apple is starting to learn to be more flexible about how she gets her happily ever after, Snow believes they should stick to the tried and true "good and evil" ways.

Ditto. Also I feel like the theory undermines the overall message of the series - that who your parents are doesn't determine who you are. If apple's "evil" traits & raven's "good" traits are bc of them being given each other's destinies, it just reinforces the legacy system & makes the rebel movement pointless.

Exactly! That's why I hate this theory so much! It makes everything pointless, and pretends all of Apple's negative behavior was enforced by her being "naturally evil" instead of being reinforced by her mother the current Snow White.

Also its mentioned Apple's dad is a blond, its just genetics. As for Evil Queen and Raven they look near identical in the books. Also Raven has magic.

Apple is one of the most complex characters I've ever seen. People may think of her as entitled, selfish and insensitive... and yes, they are quite real character flaws she has, but she also wants to be a good queen one day, and is very logical and hardworking. Her dynamic with Raven is my favourite part of her character, and Dragon Games is amazing in terms of both their personalities. My favourite part is when Apple and Raven work together to take down Raven's mother. I wish we got more of Apple's development in another special, where she completes her arc. Maybe it's the fact that Apple is surprised that Darling woke her up, and about a potential romance budding [yet another wrench in Apple's destiny; her predestined 'prince' is actually a 'princess']. And perhaps Raven convinces Dexter (who is overprotective of his sister in the diaries about potential lovers for her) that Apple and Darling will make a good match. And, I honestly do not believe the 'swapped at birth' theory. Apple's blonde hair could have been from her unseen FATHER for all we know, same with Raven's black hair.

I think her flaws are what makes me relate to her so much i can be very entitled and rude ... i dont have bad intention i just try to do my best which yeah sucks when you think abt it but seeing analysis like that make me realise what i need to try to change to be a better person and im really happy abt it thanks

I’m currently going through the tempest and have just had a thought, in a lot of stories there is usually a bastard child of which is isolated from the world and/ or despises it because of this reason. And in a way the two sisters that are Cerise and Remona are both the representations of that. Being children that aren’t even supposed to exist in the first place, Cerise isolating herself from people and hiding her secret knowing it would pretty much ruin her life. Whilst Remona embraces the resentment to the world and takes it out on others. Especially her sister (which I know are meant to be enemy’s and also sisters fighting).

While Apple was never my personal favorite EAH character, I always thought she was a very interesting one, as she has some very notable flaws and honestly make her extremely human. Like, I could seriously see a person like Apple existing in real life! And kudos for you for being so unbiased in this analysis! Secondly - I wrote this in your Raven Queen video, but I would really love to see more Ever After High character analysis videos from you. In my last comment I said I would love videos of the Charming siblings (Daring, Dexter and Darling), but a lot of other EAH characters would make great videos as well. Like Ashlynn, Cerise, Briar, Hunter - I could go on! I also really liked your videos on the Pokémon characters as well! (P.S. I love that you always go all out with your makeup in these videos! It always looks so cool!!) (P.P.S. Would you be interested in doing this with Star Wars characters? Both from the live-action stuff and the animated shows. If you are not into Star Wars, that is totally fine, just thought it would really cool to see.)

And lastly, I have actually never seen any of the Star Wars films, but that will change soon as I'm in a sci-fi fantasy writing class rn in college and we're gonna watch one of them in class I'm pretty sure

I adore Apple! Dragon Games was the first time I saw queer rep on screen and it had a massive impact on me. I know a lot of people are ‘team Raven’ but Apple has always been my favourite out of the two because of her development. In the books I think she’s even better

Great video as always. 😸 I haven't seen the show, so don't know how queer it is in general, but other people being disappointed or mad that you're not fulfilling the destiny they envisioned for you is a common part of the queer experience.

Very true! As a queer person, that feeling of others being disappointed in you or the fear of disappointing others because of your identity is a very real thing I've experienced. I think a lot of people in the LGBTQ+ loved this show not only because of the acknowledgment of queer characters with Apple and Darling, but also the queer subtext of wanting to be yourself unapologetically.

12:50 for that line i kinda wish one of them would say “uh, how dare she?” In the most confused voice ever.

If executives exist in EAH does that mean EAH "Eat the Rich" exists? Great analysis BTW :)

OMG love this so much! Thanks for the shoutout!! I really liked how you broke down Apple’s character development throughout the seasons. Especially how you described her interactions with other characters in chapter 1 because it really highlights how selfish she was. It makes me so sad that eah got cancelled because we never got to see the true culmination of her character development whether or not that was the swapped at birth theory. I feel like if we knew a definitive ending it would be easier to look back and see where her character was heading. I think by the end of Dragon Games we got to see her accept the rebels, but I feel like we never got to see her discover who she really was without Snow White or Milton Grimm telling her who she was supposed to be. Anyway those are my thoughts!!❤
