I thought that right away, but, If Apple GPT is so good, and on device good, why can't they use Apple GPT in the cloud for older devices? They certainly could, so why the need for another AI?? I think this plan B, LOL, like Apple GPT is not ready yet, maybe they are worried it will not be fully operational, and that would be a disaster. It's not a good sign at all. It's what happens when you play catch-up.

Agreed, but they did this with google maps, and they still use them for search, so that doesn't bother as much as the fact they left Siri to die while throwing Billions and tons of man hours in secret garages building cars that nobody could afford or maybe even want. I think what if... Poor Siri still saying Siri Here! only to send me to google searches time and time again, and taking so long to do anything that I just open apps to do it myself, now I ask some dude named Claude for answers, not Gemini. I assume they only plan to use another AI as a stop gap, and most likely only on older devices that can't do on device AI.

They are not using it for anything related to privacy or security, your mail, messages, etc..that will be handled by Apple GPT, this is more general I would assume like it's search deal with Google.

iCloud is already hosted on Google servers but it is end to end encrypted. So I think user data and privacy will be addressed by apple if they are onboarding google gemini.
