Apple's factory, Foxconn, rushes to move production out of China. 320K employees laid off

#chinainsights
Here is the largest Foxconn factory invested in by Guo Taiming in Guizhou. At its peak, it employed up to tens of thousands of workers and realized a total output of 100 billion yuan in 2018. It brought the greatest economic benefits to Guizhou. People once had high hopes in it but now the site is in a state of depression. The gates are closed. It's really saddening to see. Then the question comes, why does Foxconn insist on moving out of China?

IMHO it culminated from the real bad spying laws, bad even by dictatorial communist standards, that this process of shifting started. The sad part is that 95%+ of those who lost their jobs were a quite a bit better better off compared to practically the rest of the entire manufacturing sector. Most of the others, locally owned ones, were working on such bad economics that their breakeven point would have been 90%+ capacity utilisation.

Ez, they are buying up land and running away to other countries. And I mean.... other countries.... including USA. One of the top ten national who happened to own a lot of land in USA is.... Chinese. I am Thai, and there are a lot of Chinese coming over. Lots of Thai are already third forth fifth generation Chinese so hopefully we won't turn into CCP. But those run aways are mostly going to be outside the influence of China unless they have family members back home. It's complicated, but I am thankful that people are running away from the CCP. Chinese are not bad people, but the corruption and the fear culture is what is destroying China. It sucks cause if you think about it, Chinese people put in a lot of work but their system is failing the whole country. If they had better policies, no corruptions, they could really really be number one. And I wouldn't mind they being number one, as long as they're not corrupt lol.

I dont feel any compassion for them at all. The chinese people bullied those companies out of their countries, the few remaining foreign companies still in china get bullied everyday by the same people complaining they dont have jobs. An example is a japanese water company that got boycotted because they used red caps. Overnight all chinese people stopped buying their product and the company had to under sell all their assets and leave. The workers then complained that the new administration was under paying them. If you follow vtubers you will know there is an ONGOING drama about it as we speak. Chinese people like foreigner vtubers but they want them to adhere to chinese customs including acting like taiwan is part of china. Every foreigner vtuber who tries the chinese market is received with open arms and colorful promises. As soon as they start producing merch in China they show their real colors and turn on them.

#slopagandpa #WOWSOGOOD - With stimulus and measures, China's debt will be at 400% to 500% of its GDP in the next decade, according to Reuters. -Chinese 🇨🇳 property Ponzi sector, which accounts for 30% of GDP, is crashing -Tofu Exports and Western imports, accounting for 37% GDP, are down. -Foreign investment is falling over 90% compared to it's peak in 2018. -Foreign visitors are down 96% compared to the pre-pandemic level in 2019 with less than 200 americans left. -Consumer prices are experiencing hyperstagdeflation. -Youth unemployment hits over 21% (in reality 50%+ after eliminating faked numbers), a record. -It's fast shrinking workforce is 10 years old than neighboring countries. - During the years 1990-2021, the US printed 6.5 time more money while China printed 147 times. - It has printed more money than the US and Japan combined, while it's economy is only half of them. - Current Chinese debt-to-gdp is already highest in the world, at 300%, according to Bloomberg. - This is a classic macroeconomic nightmare created by the CCP going way back in 1994 when they took the Yuan off the international exchange. Now in 2024, the banks and the average Chinese citizen have no idea what is the ACTUAL value of anything within the mainland. Any stimulus from the Central Govt. will be meaningless and ineffectual because the Central Bank is a part of the CCP. Thereby merging both fiscal government and monetary private policies into one ongoing disaster. Local provincial party officials were doing stimulus spending for decades in tandem of the "China Economic Miracle" which will undermine any Central Government. stimulus during an actual depression/recession or more accurately.. HYPERSTAGDEFLATIONARY COLLAPSE. - in the future house prices will drop to 10% of what they were, youth unemployment will be over 70% without livestreaming, and middle class people over 35 will be unemployed and have their wages cut, with no possibility of reemployment. And most local governments and banks will go bankrupt while overseas party naked officials laugh. How will you live in a world where real estate companies, local governments, and banks across China have almost gone bankrupt? That is your challenge for the future (will you own a worthless house and pay the mortgage?). Pensions will be bankrupt and your daily wage will be $2 or 20 yuan. Divestment from China has proliferated given the draconian policies of the CCP. Intellectual property theft and government's clampdown has put foreign firms on fire. Such backfire in the business environment dissuades investors from piling capital into China and seeks out alternatives. India and Vietnam are the obvious beneficiaries of this downturn and these countries will continue to capitalize on China's calamities by enticing more FDI conglomerates to gobble up land and build factories.

Every single company seeks to minimize risk. The foreign investment flight out of China underlines the increasingly unstable economic markets in China. As China continues to get more militarily aggressive with its neighbors, foreign business becomes ever more nervous. China has now reached the point where the many negative economic signs combined with the increasingly strident centralized planning and control policies of the CCP leave businesses, especially large foreign owned firms, with no choice but to leave. China basically bit the hand that fed them.

China is reverting back to how it was under Mao, instead of opening up it will become more and more isolated, all that will remain are state owned businesses. Soon China will restrict all people leaving the country much like North Korea, as more and more people will see what China is and want to leave to find opportunities that will not longer be available there.

People forget that China's average pay is raising (raised from 1960 to today), and is equal to some eastern European countries average salary. Investors are just looking for cheaper workers. Even without CCP bullying factories would move to cheaper countries, maybe it would take 10 more years.

Thats the correct move! for those companies still investing in China must think to exit now! if you want stable production, low risk of stealing intellectual property and CCP's political instability, then move out of China! US are now doubling tariffs on China, and you dont want to be affected in this! so just move out and go to other countries! same output but less or no CCP!

The following would described a more complete picture. The U.S. initiated the opening of China and trade relations in the 70s. Global investments started in 1979. The 80s saw relatively modest FDI. It was the 90s onward that FDI grew rapidly. Hong Kong lead the pack with $746.9B (or 46.5%) as of 2014, while Taiwan was 6th with $61.2B (3.8%). HK has remained the largest source since the mid-80s. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_direct_investment_in_China Taiwan's largest company/employer in China, Foxconn, is a contractor for Apple who pays and decides where to locate the factories. All the above does not provide a whole picture. It was the open markets that allowed China's massive exports in, allowing China to grow rapidly. The U.S. provided the largest and most favorable market as well as helped China get into the WTO and China's growth soared afterward. U.S. investors also provide the largest share (37%) of foreign capitals to Chinese firms.

Companies see what the CCP brought to Hong Kong, and the smart ones fled and the more are leaving, taking their companies and jobs and money with them. With all the choices that the CCP is making round the world, and the hostile actions take towards the world countries and companies are no longer comfy in China. I don't see this as a great trend for anyone, but the CCP's actions speak volumes. Even mainland residents are fleeing.

  • @FiLo-nb3pr

For lord's sake, this has little to do (if anything) with political decisions, it has to do with financial policies OF THE COMPANIES themselves. 15 years ago the average Chinese salary was about 1/20 of that in the west. Now this ratio has gone up to almost 1/3. Obviously they are moving out. If they were really interested in human rights and their own countries, they would move to the US and Europe. Instead they move to Bagladesh and similar, which actually have disastrous working conditions and the salaries are five times less than in China... Whoever really thinks Apple, or any other tech giant gives a damn about anybody's rights everywhere in the world is gravely misled...

China's financial institutions, which function similarly to stock markets, have experienced an impressive annual growth rate of 8.5%. Their financial assets now surpass the combined total of the US and European stock markets. This substantial growth indicates that China may no longer require Western investments for its economic development. Chinese officials have confirmed this perspective, emphasizing a strategic shift towards economic self-reliance, reducing foreign investment, and increasing domestic investment.
