APPLE PIE Making with Brenda & Draft Horses Raking a Hay Field!!
Today we are switching things up a bit and we are in the kitchen, apple pie making with Brenda!! Brenda is sharing a very easy apple pie recipe she uses to make pies from our abundant apples this year. After that, Jim & the draft horses head out to the hay field to rake some hay!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Brenda, you are SuperWoman! Your work with the animals, as well as respect and love them, you brush the horses, sweep their poop, feed and water the animals, work the fields, mow the yard, take care of your kitchen garden to grow your own food and then there is the housework too, cleaning, cooking, laundry, etc... My head spins with all the work you do! I have so much respect and admiration for you!!! Plus you stay looking so young! Must be all the hard work, ha!

Yup and that's how she stays so trim and lively love her style😊
Brenda what a pleasure it was to see you performing the numerous tasks you accomplish so well. I am 82 years old and wish I was still as fit and vigorous as you are! I am so aware of the endless tasks on a farm and I love how very loving and generous you are with your family and friends. I am a fan of your presentations but fail to let you know how much I truly enjoy your family adventures, Never change for you are an inspiration to so many in the chaos of the world.

Brenda you are a truly gifted and talented person! I just can't believe all of the chores you do, plus you have raised three children and you worked a job, simply amazing. I actually stumbled across your channel and I instantly got hooked on watching it. I have the utmost respect for you and Jim. And you raised some great kids. Sharing your world with the rest of us is truly a blessing and gift❣️
I do miss your granddaughters! I’m going to try that crust. Brenda, we need more of “in the kitchen with Brenda” videos!😊❤

Jim is the luckiest man on earth and Brenda is the luckiest lady❤❤.
Brenda and Jim, I am a 81 year old “do nothing” Swede, and it amazes me the talent you two possess in keeping me entertained!!!!!!!! Please enjoy your Labor Day break!!!!

Labor Day is for people who don't work anyway. Not for farmers!
Oh, thank you so much for the apple pie recipe, Brenda! Would you be willing to do a video of your beef stew?????❤❤❤ I really enjoyed this video. I love the caring for the horses videos as well as them working with Jim! Aww heck, I love all of your videos!!!!!!! 😊😊😊
To end a productive day working in the fields and walk into a country kitchen where a tasty pie waits must be most special.
That was fun hearing the whole clippity clop song for once. 😄 Just so impressed with Baron getting so big and powerful. Working hard along side the others a real addition to the teams. Not forgetting the little "dividend" he's provided. hehe 🤭

Yes, we are pleased with his progress and his "dividend"
Horses in the barn, Cows in the pasture, Chickens in the yard, apples under the tree, cat in the tree, team working in the field, and a fresh baked apple pie in the kitchen! ,,,,,,,it just doesn’t get any more American than this. Great job Brenda, on the whole video, you could host your own cooking segment regularly.

@marionberry6909- Yes, I am 100% for Down Home Americana! We live a 1940s/1950s Norman Rockwell lifestyle. 3rd generation farm family. This lifestyle has taken us through the pandemic and recession in good order. Our small NH town is tight knit community that we are grateful for in these times. We will be haying today and looking forward to 🍎apple picking ~ Diane
Love the chickens, horse kisses and brushing, pie tips and the cutting of the hay. Kind of a perfect morning.
Brenda, you are a joy to watch. You both are so blessed to have such a wonderful farm and the farm life.
Working horses wouldn't work if not for having a good solid partnership with wife and animals working with same goals Makes for living the best life😆💕
Brenda,. that was a fantastic video. I like to bake and you have answered many questions for me today. Hardworking people like you and Jim deserve a sugar apple treat...often ! I just love the way the chickens respond to you Brenda and its cute that they all have names
I love the way Brenda chats to the horses & other animals!

Haven't you got a roster for the hen's saw that you have more chicken that you can have more eggs
Brenda your apple pie looks so delicious and I know Jim will be happy after his long day of work. Love your way of making the apple pie. I got used to the grandkids with you and do miss them in this video. You and jim take care and God bless you both.
Brenda...All your grooming on the horses really shows. Their coats are sleek and shiny, and horses loved to be brushed. They each have special areas they enjoy the most. You know you have found it when their upper lip starts twitching! And then you hop in the house to make an apple pie or two.....what a Gal ! God bless... 😊
My grandmother always put strips of crust on top of her pies. I’d love to taste one of her rhubarb pies again

My late Mom made the best rhubarb and strawberry pies! And stewed rhubarb on vanilla ice cream was another tasty treat! How I miss her! Treasures of your heart for sure..
The boys are not excited about job training but they will learn to love it. That apple 🍏 pie looks amazing 🤩
Brenda what an exciting time it was watching you in the kitchen. I am an old farm boy from Missouri and I can remember as a kid watching my mom who was an excellent cook and farmers wife. I grew up learning to cook watching my mother. I know that not a lot of men cook these days but I really enjoy it, I guess because of my mother. I realize the channel is about Jim and all of his fabulous horses and trust me I really enjoy watching that but maybe Jim would agree to let you have a cooking segment on occassion. I for one would enjoy it very much and I am sure others would as well. I would love for you to share some of your favorite recipes with us. You brought back so many good memories of my Mom, Thank you. I love your channel so keep up the good work, I never miss an episode. Art from central Florida. My mom always had rubarb in the garden and always made rubarb pie. Is that something you do as well?
Most, almost all, people on social media baking pies, making bread, etc... are clearly just for show. Very cool to your kitchen, yard and cooking. That you've been doing this for years and is just part of your life comes thru. No nonsense reality.

Hello Brenda from our farm in New Hampshire! Two beautiful sights, you making that pie and Jim in the hay fields. We are so far behind in our 🚜 haying! Looks like a sunny stretch is finally opening up. My guys will be working the fields late into the season. It does my heart good to see all the doings on your working farm and I also follow Abby renovating her house. Nice that house is just down the road a piece. I wish more folks would consider going back to the land, especially multi-generations. There are plenty of us family farmers remaining to show people how to get started, including help from The Farm Bureau and the County Extension Service. A wonderful way of life in these times. We are all 70-something and going strong on our family farm! ~ Diane
Now that would make a great channel: Country Cookin' with Ms. Brenda 😁
Brenda I love your conversations with horses during the morning brushing. “How was your weekend? “ Hah hah!
Brenda, I love your 'easy' way of making a pie! Now I know I don't have to go to so much work rolling, & breaking the crust as I put it on. I love the press method & oil instead of cutting in the butter. It gets eaten & loved, even if it's not perfect. Beautiful pie❤️
As always, we enjoyed this video!!! You all are so blessed with beautiful grandchildren and those stunning horses that you take such good care of. Your farm is such a nice escape to watch for those of us who either don't have one or aren't close to one! Brenda, I just want to add that your recipe looks and sounds delicious, really enjoyed your cooking segment!! I know you're very busy, but maybe once a month you could share a recipe with us that's dear to your heart? Hope you both have a wonderful week!!!
Weekly segment "Baking with Brenda" I like it!
How clever, and versatile is our brenda. Master of the indoors and the outdoors. 👍🙌😊
We are all most 70 years old now and we don’t feel bad touching off the wood stove in the morning either.

Thanks Brenda, beautiful apple pie , I see why Jim loves them ❤
This was such a relaxing video for us to watch but I'm sure you both got quite the workout from all those jobs. Brenda, you're just a Boss - and a true sweetheart, sneaking in all those lovely horse snuggles, complete w kisses! And there's always hard-working Jim! What a nice treat he has coming for dessert tonight. Thanks for showing us a smarter way for pie-crusts! And your pie looked delicious. Love your hard work, your farm and your fabulous horses (& chickens too!).
There is only one thing better than a slice of apple pie and that is two slices with a scoop of ice cream.
Thank you. The only thing that would make that video better is having a piece of that pie.
What a woman! What a great team this whole farm has. Brenda has set everyone up watered and brushed, readied the manure for Jim to pick up, Jim's got more time to fix a bolt and do his raking, Brenda showed us how she makes her apple pie, and wow! Greetings from Australia.
We make a similar "pie" by just not bothering with the bottom crust and using a double or triple batch of the topping. You just scoop it instead of cutting it and you can make it in any size pan, depending on the amount of apples. We know it as "Apple Brown Betty".
" A long way from my heart." My Grandfather use to say that a lot.
Thank you Brenda for sharing an excellent tip of making a pie dough directly in the pie dish. You inspired me to bake a fresh apple pie for our dinner tonight. Your crust recipe turned out beautifully for us. We really enjoy watching the Working Horses with Jim videos - we look forward to many more. Much appreciation for yours & Jim's time and hard work in creating this video series. - Kindly - Angie from Ontario Canada.

Hi Brenda 👋 That pie looked so good and so easy I had to try it. Well, all I can say is that it was the BEST apple pie I've ever made! Hubby loves it too. I will never make it any other way. Thank you so much! 🐴❤
I love hearing the contented chirping of the chickens. The pie looks great. I’m going to try that crust and yes many times I don’t make a pie because of the crust. Brenda, by putting the pie in a hot oven is to prevent a soggy bottom crust. Thank you again for sharing. Oh, you can tell how much Ken enjoyed his brushing. You could see it in his face.
I can smell that pie over here in Rochester, Ms. Brenda. Looks delish 😄
Mimm! Yumy Brinda, wow-ie You an Abby Shure know how to do it! At around 2000 Miles my arm is-sent long enough, so your Pie is safe enough on the Windowsills today! Have a wonderful day and enjoy the Fruits of you Labor.
Thanks Brenda for showing your method for pie crust made in pan .. never heard of it and sounds great! olive oil and all! Thanks for all the rest also .. I really do enjoy your channel very much ❤
I boil the peels and cores in some water and make the best apple drink you ever tasted❤❤❤.
Now I want to plant an apple tree and make this recipe! ❤
Uh oh Jim!! You have compition.....Working In The Kitchen With Brenda! Wonderful job will be using your pie crust recipe today.
Jim, Brenda, So nice to see you both. Always nice to see horses working in the field, making hay. Brenda, you did some good job making that apple pie!! I so wish i was there to have a piece of that beautiful pie! Trudy & Abby, were so lucky to grow up on that farm!! Have a great day. Jim, Nova Scotia Canada.

Pure torture not getting a piece of your apple pie. Yum!
Thanks Brenda, what a blessing. Pie today at our house
Lovely video, thanks! I enjoyed seeing the hay swirling off the blades in sunlight, those great beasts with their tidy turns, amazing. And I did like the last video with the dear grandaughters visiting, "Baby" Brie (Bree?) in your kitchen, funny! Brenda, at 77 I've Never🙄 baked any kind of pie, tho I love to eat them. Your demonstration was so simple that I am inspired to try! My mouth was watering... You and Jim and family are very sweet, solid people, the kind so needed in today's world. Thank you.
You could name this episode "lucky Jim " 😊
... keep it up Brenda ,, just keep it up I'm going to get that Jimbo if thats the last thing I do...ahhh kidding aside loving wife's do thing's like this and I know that farmer is hard working and blessed to have a wife like you!!!
Just made your recipe for this pie today. The crust is not flaky like the typical way of making pie dough but it was still very tasty! You’re an amazing woman, you are such a hard worker. Jim is very blessed to have you by his side. We watch every show 😊
I am not sure how you feel about it, but is nice to know there are still nurses who can cook.
LOVE THIS HELLO BRENDA AND JIM APPLE PIE THAT'S WONDERFUL
Thank you Brenda for sharing your apple pie recipe. I'm not a fan of making pastry but I'm certainly going to give that a try. Thanks again for your channel, it brightens my day no matter what's going on. Regards Ian
Thank you Brenda , is fun spending time with you!❤
I haven't seen a pie like since my mother used to cook on the old woodstove many years ago, keep up the the good work, boy is Jim lucky. john greenfield from Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada
Please please please show more of Brenda’s cooking!! We have made 2 of these apple pies and love them. ❤
What an old fashioned home warming gift from your neighbor 😊 I read it was custom to give apple trees or to have them on every land to make ale 😂 and there for a homestead. The legend of Johnny Apple Seed is very interesting. Apple trees helped populate the US in its early days Those aerial shots of the field are amazing, and thank you for showing us how to make apple pie ❤
Thank you for the pie making lesson. Brenda and I just love the tip you gave the other day for scooping out squash seeds with a canning lid. It works so excellent thank you.
I love apple pie!! My mom would make me apple pie on my birthday instead of a cake. She's been gone quite a while. And I do miss her apple pies..😢
Now that's what I call a real farm kitchen.
Brenda, I loved your apple pie making ❤
Well well Brenda you should start up your own utube cooking show that was awesome telling us about how you cook apples pies 🥧 great job girl , Jim lucky he loves pies 🥧 its looks amazing 👏 yummy 😋 cheers
Brenda I love ❤️ the way you measure for baking cause I do the same. People ask me for my rice pudding recipe but I don’t measure just guessing. The same when I stew tomatoes 🍅 which I will be doing soon but I got my garden in a little late cause of having my knee surgery. I also love ❤️ seeing working the fields you two are a awesome couple. Wouldn’t miss a video. Have a great weekend ❤❤😂. From Ontario Canada 🍁🍁🍁🇨🇦
Back when we grew up on the farm, my mom was renowned for her pie crusts. She's gone now but I once asked how she did it. She gave me a one-word answer; "Lard." She later added no uses lard anymore. She also made the best fried chicken ever. I also her about that. Same answer...lard and cast iron. Of course, back then we always had a five gallon tin of lard in the basement.

Yes, Lard is great!
Life is sure busy for you Brenda . But the working with all your chickens and horses for me would be interesting. The horses sure like your brushing them . Green grass is far better then grain evidently! 😊 Always thing too be fixed . Apple pie sounds so go and looks so good.
Great video, Brenda! Farm wives are such special people! Your apple pie looked so good I could almost smell it baking! I'm going to have to try your mix in the dish crust. Liked watching you water and brush the horses and run the drone. Music fit the video very well!
This is the least messy pie that I've seen! Making mine like this from now on!
Wonderful video! Thanks Brenda for showing us how to make a "one bowl" pie crust! I'm going to do that instead of rolling it out! I'm a butter person myself too! I love apple crisp myself, but using the oatmeal base.
Hi Brenda, I have always struggled rolling out pie crusts, getting in the pie plate without breaking apart. So easy never thought of that, thanks a lot. I so enjoy watching you, Jim and all the big beautiful horses. Thank you both so much. ❤
Brenda, nice to see that you too can make a video😊😊and that's one heck of a pie!!!
Good morning Brenda 🌞 well l tried your apple pie pastry and it worked out very well, ill definitely be using your recipe again.l hope you do more cooking videos it was very relaxing to watch and l learnt something thankyou so very much dear friend.

Far be it from me to tell a bona fide farm girl how to do her cooking, b/c I am a recipe follower and NOT a cook/chef. Nevertheless, here is a "helpful hint from Heloise": I bought a half-dozen cheap, stainless steel 9" x 13" jelly roll pans so I always have a couple of clean ones handy. I just stick one under whatever I'm cooking that might run over (pie, casserole, etc). Clean up is super easy, and I don't waste aluminum foil. I realize that Jim and the horses are the focus of this channel, but, IMO, the importance of your excellent video work can NOT be overstated Brenda. I LOVE your horses, but making an apple pie is a very pleasant change of pace. As an animal lover myself, I love the kind and respectful way you treat the animals under your stewardship. Thank you, Brenda! May God bless and protect Gordon family farm and all dwell there, whether four-legged or two-legged. 🙏🙏
I hope Jim loved the pie.
Pie looked Deeeeliscous, that's a new word, LOL. Thanx for sharing. 😃
Awesome pie Brenda ❤😊
Jim is a lucky man....
Excellent video today Jim and Brenda. Loved your pie recipe. You are both so busy around your farm. I received my t-shirt I ordered from you yesterday. Very nice shirt for the price.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Thanks. Blessings from West Virginia.
😊👍👍I usually use two or even three varieties of apples for pies if available. I find that gives a good depth of flavour. Jim is a lucky guy.
I have just followed your recipe for apple pie - it worked brilliantly! I have coeliac disease which means I can only use gluten free flour etc. Most recipes don’t work with my flour, but your apple pie was so tasty. My family were able to share this apple pie because it tasted so good (usually my coeliac pastry is not so great and they prefer not to eat it!). Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I think you have a talent for cooking presentation, please let us have some more.
Brenda, you could host a cooking/baking show! You’re a natural at conversation about life, to fill the “dead” space when you are measuring or kneading. A third or is it fourth career!?!?!!!🎉😊
