No problem in Australia Liron. All the acquirers, take all payments, not too sure why anyone would ask the merchant if they accept them, we just use it. Like the UK we've had contactless for a long time. Have been using the wallets since inception, best way to go. BUT then again I always take my real wallet with me just in case!

Very informative video, thank you. I've been using Google Pay for a couple of years now and I love it. Here in Australia, it's pretty much accepted everywhere. I find it more secure for the reason you said, my phone needs to be open to use it and only I can open my phone. I still carry my wallet with me though, mainly because of my Driver's license (digital licenses are still on trial here and I haven't been invited yet) Also, I like to carry a bit of cash on me, in case I need it. Another good reason to use Phone payments is it saves wear and tear on your card, they last longer.

I have used Apple Pay in countries where it is not available yet, most of the time I was able to use it even if the cashiers said I can't. I just say I'll pay by paywave, contactless or whatever they call it locally and just use my phone or watch and it always works. I think many cashiers are just not aware.

In Malaysia, the mobile payments are accepted every where. Even in the smallest vendor in a market. My bank provides its own app. When the app is open my phone is detected as Visa card by any NFC. App shows confirmation prompt on screen to complete payment for any amount. Phone has to be unlocked. Bank alternates between Visa and Mastercard when their contract is up for renewal. App supports adding multiple cards (personal and business). The device like the one you showed will get nothing if the app isn't on and trigger that configuration prompt when the app is on.

I've never asked if they accept Google Wallet in the shops in the UK. I assumed that if they accepted Chip and Pin it will work and it always has done. The banks and government have increased our tap and pay limit to £100 which I think is too high . I'm not sure if Google have increased this without the need to unlock the device or not. I would prefer the option in the app to disable payments without unlocking completely.

3:54 You can store your CC info in a locked note in Notes on iPhone or OneNote on Android. You can then only access the note using biometrics / password. Availability is an issue in the US but it will eventually be solved because it **is** the future as the payment monopoly will be broken, like it is internationally. I use GPay whenever I can because I can review my purchases by merchant across all cards. This makes it really easy to find out how much I spent on groceries at the end of the month because GPay consolidates all the info for me. I don't have to look at different CC statements.

3:00 In Russia, there is a law that obliges banks to set up bank terminals to accept contactless payments (including via a smartphone). Therefore, if the store has a terminal, then in any case you can pay with Apple Pay / Google Pay / Samsung Pay (before sanctions). Thanks to this, the number of places where Apple Pay is accepted (6 months after the launch) in Russia overtook the number of places in the USA (Apple Pay has been there for 2 years already). P.S. After the imposition of sanctions, almost nothing has changed (Google Pay was replaced by MirPay on Android)

The only places that catch me out are self service petrol stations because they don't accept contactless. I was amazed when I went to the US how backwards their banking is. I used Apple Pay and they still wanted me to sign 😂 so yeah, I think it currently depends on the country you are in.

For the security part I use iPhone and I can confirm that you can’t use Apple Pay with-ought unlocking your iPhone. In my area DFW the places that don’t have it are Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Kroger every other company has mass adopted it here in the last couple years including gas stations.

@3:55 not entirely true you cannot view all credit cards in your wallet in iOS. With the Apple Card you can open the wallet and see the full "card number" which is associated with your Apple Card (which in reality is a Goldman Sachs backed Mastercard account). This ability is offered in the event you encounter a point of sale where you can't use contactless Apple Pay and don't have the physical card either. But in response to your other question, yes I continue to haul around my physical wallet as well. At 55 old habits are hard to break.

I like using my apple card at restaurants when giving it to the server. It doesn't have the number printed on it, and generates a number at point of sale. It's high interest though, so i pay it as soon as i can.

Well I live in uk and the city I live in I have never find any business, not take Apple Pay. That includes restaurants and pubs even the public transport takes every contactless method there is they is only one problem we have a limit on our bank cards and if we go over that limit we have to use chip and pin because contactless will not work and some businesses will limit Apple Pay and Google pay to that amount

  • @brianm9331

Small tweak. Mobile wallets store a virtual card number that doesn’t change. There may however be a cryptogram involved that identifies your transaction. Think of it as a one time password. The chip on your card does something similar hashing your transaction details with a secret code on your card only your bank knows. It’s a more advanced way of proving you physically have the card on hand.

Both of these and PayPal can be connected directly to your bank account using routing and account number. I do this so I have a digital payment method when my credit cards have to be canceled due to online fraud. It happens. During the 10 days it takes to process a new card GP and PayPal are the only connection I have to my money.

Where I work, we accept Apple Pay, but not Google. However, I recently had two customers who attempted Apple Pay, but the payment wouldn't go through. We then had to resort to payment with their cards. I don't know what caused the failure, since the cards they used were the same ones they had set up for Apple Pay.

So what’s to stop you from taking a photo of your Credit/ Debit card ( should you need them) and then using the hidden photos feature on a iPhone to hide the image? Can you manually input your card details into a POS card reader in the US? ( not forgetting the 3digit security code on the back.

Many retail POS can technically accept typed in card numbers but the card must be present per industry policy. The stores bank would require the card’s numbers be physically copied with an emboss card reader/ink machine to prove the card was present.

Hm, I have never met a shop where I could not use my phone to pay with. And it's interesting with the online payment, that here in Hungary, it is actually prohibited to put a simple form on a webshop's UI to get credit card data. You MUST use a gateway provided by a bank etc. like Paypal, Barion, PayU, SimplePay (which is powered by a famous bank) etc. So literally there's no way here to run into these issues. 🤘🏼 Anyways, we can still carry our physical cards in a protector sleeve you have a video about, too. 💙
