Hi, yes with iOS 13 an above you can access more than photos/videos but the SD card reader MUST be a genuine Apple card reader, 3rd party ones tend to not work.👍🏿🇬🇧

Please check that this item is a genuine, because there is a lot fakes out there,some are better than others. Now with iOS 13 there was an update to this item. Check you got the latest firmware update. If that doesn’t work check with your local Apple store ask them to test the item. I hope this works out for you, please let me know👍🏾🇬🇧

Yes you can, the phone will read photos & videos as a camera roll, you can transfer from there the usual way.
This is a bit painful to watch. Have you heard of EDITING? thanks anyways.
