Appalling day - crashed and totally lost in the desert racing to Dakar Senegal
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Follow my intense and thrilling journey of stage two racing to Dakar Senegal on my KTM desert rally bike where I totally forget how to ride and have a nasty crash. I face the infamous Merzouga sand dunes, ride through some nasty energy sapping sand tracks, riverbeds and of course enough jaw rattling rock to make Morocco proud. Oh and of course, my first off, causing my Alpinestars Tech Air off road airbag to deploy. Did I mention I also get lost? Very... Very lost! I was lost for nearly an hour in the middle of the desert, totally lost. I had to hunt and search for the way out. But thankfully it wasn’t just me lost, many racers had huge issues, including the large racing trucks and desert ATVs who have a dedicated navigator. Most of the competitors got lost too!
No one said racing to Dakar Senegal in the Africa Eco Race would be easy... It is no easy task enduring extreme desert temperatures of potentially up to 50°C during the day and -5°C during the nights while navigating through difficult and punishing terrain, staying focused all while fighting exhaustion and energy depletion after racing for days on end. The race to Dakar - Part 4 continues!
STAGE 2 (Day 2): BOUDNIB → MHAMID
Liaison: 11.22 km
Special stage: 382.72 km
Liaison: 30.96 km
Total: 424.9 km + getting lost

The air bag is really impressive. Smart move to stop and put another canister in it! Really good riding through that sand!!

Amazing video Vanessa!!❤. I have so much admiration and respect for you. I hope your friend that wrecked will be okay, that has to be unnerving. Do all of the racers have an airbag vest? I’ve been thinking even for myself it may not be a bad idea to have one, I don’t bounce off the ground as good as I would have in my younger years, I’m almost 57 now🤦♂️🙄. Keep it up girl, I’m cheering for you.

Wow another cracking event filled video Vanessa. Having a few 'offs' is to be expected but as you mention once the safety balloons have deployed you need to recharge them just in case as the next off could be a big one. It looked like disorganised chaos from a nav perspective so it wasn't just you who made an error so please take some solace from that. A great result all things considered as you finished the day alive and kicking. Hats off to your support team for feeding you and sorting out the back. I might just slightly reconsider ordering you as a pizza delivery rider though as it's one thing having to reconstruct the pizza upon delivery, a cold one is not quite so good but I have a microwave so not unsalvageable so total forgivables on that. I'm looking forward to the next one. Many thanks for sharing.
Puting a camera from place to place and come back again for the rides is not easy just because you love your viewers you do it. Big thank you for doing that. Ride safe on Day-3

Awesome! Superb riding and amazing stamina and determination to keep going. I must say, watching you fall and and catch yourself with your arms makes the backs of my knees feel funny! Not in any way knocking the technique, we all work out what works for us. Just having grown up doing martial arts, every spill turns into a rolling breakfall. Some trips, I feel like Sonic The Hedgehog rolling around the place, given the number of "talent deficiency related incidents" I tend to have 😅

The navigation confusion around 17:00 brought the great showdown scene of the first Pink Panther film to my mind. ☺ Did you see any bewildered looking old Beduine anywhere? He would have made the picture complete! 🤗 It's really good to watch this all in hindsight, knowing none of the sketchy situations there really did damage. But heck, that day was a battle of sorts! 😵💫 All in a day's work for a force of nature, right?

Venessa, a serious question, if you know that you're about to fall off and go down, is there a way to safely fall off and away from the bike or is it far too quick to think about it?
@TheGirlOnABike
3 ай бұрын
Oh yikes. So it does depend on the situation. The fall here was pretty sudden so not much warning. It's always of case of pushing away from the bike so you don't end under it. Sometimes you know it's coming like in a hill climb where you are not going to make it. Then you can bail safely before and peak crisis. But there's definitely an art to crashing hehe
a good night's sleep and keep focused and I'm sure you will make it. Go, girl.

Dust and sand from the desert
I did not see any self doubt or insecurity in this video when you where lost with the two other bikes, I did not this Vennesa questioning if she should be there I saw an experienced rider giving input and working to figure out the path to take as a equal not an unworthy. The airbag change of cylinder that is an experienced rider, not a rookie. If I was in three sleeping bags and still cold I would have my team with me for body heat... may be not Annika (I think that is her name) she looks like a snorer😁 I have been trying to find your WhatsApp channel since I do not do social media (I believe in free speech) the link does not bring up any thing and so far I have not been able to find you.

In these types of events you just have to stay focused at the challenge on hand and stay determined and confident! 💪 Haha this is hilarious! I have had to share rooms with her before and I can tell you she doesnt snore, thankfully! Oh I am sorry to hear that, try this whatsapp.com/channel/0029Va6y5Ne47XeFmFGhXn2b
