Why is everyone being so critical of her! ❤❤❤❤ wow she's got thousands of comments (in this case "recommendations") to sift through and y'all think that she can listen to just one... yours??? Smh she's doing her best with the knowledge she has. Y'all could take a few notes from Jessica/sunshine and be a bit more compassionate❤❤❤❤

My all time favorite hiking shoes were Altra Lone Peak 3.5 mids. The new versions since that time have been less than acceptable in every way. I've switched to Topos. They seem to be the real deal. Time will tell. Also, no shame in vitamin "I" (ibuprofen). It served as more than pain relief ... it helped heal my injuries. It might work for you.

Glad to see you out of zero drops! Foot issues have plaqued me on my hikes, so I feel your pain! I had to have surgery (18') after injuries from the pct to my foot. My foot was great when i started the AT, but after all I went through, i was scared of ruining what was fixed. I used 1 ankle brace. The kind that laces and velcros. I mainly wore it on my "bad" foot but if i tweeked my other foot i would wear it on that foot for a bit. If you switch back to a regular shoe, maybe consider a brace with it? Topos for the win! Good luck, heal fast and hike on!

why do you think soldiers wear boots and not shoes (fashion?_) Mid length in your case is not good enough. Your ankle must be kept as motionless as possible. Any twisting or turning of your ankle here will only worsen your condition but hey, you know everything, right? ( Apologies for that last comment but you are a difficult person to get a point across to)! :)

Because boots last longer; the military isn’t going to shell out new footwear multiple times a year. They’re also much heavier; the military doesn’t care if you have cinder blocks on your feet. But the average through hiker does.

@@MaryanneN_ you obviously don't know about boots. The idea is to lend support to the ankle so that is is not subjected to as much twisting and strain as in a shoe!

you shopped without proper advice! #1- Boot must be leather with a rubber or rubber-neoprene soul (like a car tire). No boot is waterproof! #2- Boot must reach ankle height for full support and laces must be able to wrap around the top of the boot. That means when you lace up the boot, you but a single knot at the top then wrap the lace around your boot (ankle) before securing with your final double knot, double bow stitch. (much like a hockey skate is laced.) #3- Boot must be able to hold a separate cushion insert (which is removed every night). #4- Boot with insert must fit snug. It must hug your foot without cramping and there can be no heel play or lateral foot movement when laced up. Style and practicality do not usually go together. #5- after purchase, purchase a good boot protector compound or liquid. Apply to entire boot (3 applications) an hour apart. #6- Wear a thin nylon sock and a good wool sock. The nylon will wic moisture away from foot and wool will absorb as well as keep your foot comfortable. Change socks everyday. #7- if by chance you step in deep water and the whole boot gets soaked you have 2 options. A---- stop for the day, B-----continue in the wet boot until you reach your camp ground, (no more than 2 hours in wet boot). #8- When you take off the wet boots, stuff them with dry cotton towels and lace them up tight and leave for 1 hour (remember to remove the insert first. After an hour, remove towels and open boots completely and allow to air dry. When you next put on the boot, it ay feel a bit tight but it will reshape itself within a mile or 2 of hiking. #9- Always carry a spare pair of laces. If you buy a boot and it doesn't work out, don't blame to boot or the viewer. It is because you chose the wrong boot. Remember, practicality and fashion, almost never co-exist. At least 2 of your viewers are watching out for you!!!! P.S. Make sure Largo gets a pair as well. He may have young feet but the grueling hike will exact a toll on his calves, ankles and legs in years to come and you don't want to be responsible for that!

I don't know how so many of these Thru-Hikers love and use the Trail Runners. I must have something that rises high enough to provide some stabilization of my ankles. I can wear lower shoes for day walking...but for woodland hiking, I cannot...will roll an ankle easily. The only way I might be able to use Trail Runner shoes is if I used an Ace bandage to wrap my ankles like athletes do. I do understand the heavier boot counterpoint...I have a couple of pair of those and they are heavier even though they are great with providing ankle support. Currently, I am using a pair of GORUCK Boots as my "go-to" hiking boots. Really like their "MACV-1" boots...I have one pair I use for day or urban trekking. I took advantage of a deep sale on their website to get a second pair, one size larger than I normally wear...these are now my hiking footwear. The bit larger size allows me to wear a heavy winter sock, or use a sock liner with a wool sock...and have space so my toes do not "bump" the front of the boot when on down slopes. The GORUCK "MACV-1" or "MACV-2" boots are great, in that they are very lightweight but rise higher like a boot. They are like a very lightweight hybrid between a trail runner shoe and a jungle boot.
