Oh and I love the music. I have not recognized the artists. They make me think if Jewel and Simon and Garfunkel.
Hey guys! I got back from a 44 mile section hike just north of this video. I didn't expect to run into yall but was hopeful. So it looks like yall are on the backside of the bubble but definitely still in the window for a Katahdin finish. You are currently among a group who will become increasingly less hopeful so don't listen to them and let them bring you down. That said, VA is a great place to crush some big miles as long as you can avoid the gravity of towns and hostels. IMHO keep charging north until you know you are at risk of Katahdin closing, and only then look at plan B. You guys have a lot of off trail challenges but you are doing great. I don't know how you manage to keep up with the beautiful vlogs while hiking. I tried to video journal my trip and only managed 15 minutes of footage over 3 days. You inspire me. This was my first trip in 12 years and I made it out there in no small part from watching yall every morning for the last fifty something days. Thank you for sharing your journey!

Great advice. Thanks.
Music is wonderful as always. Thanks for sharing the different ways people hike the trail. Example: nobo or sobo or combination. Love learning the terminology.
I was a graphic designer also for 30 years. I enjoy watching your videos. I had a feeling you may have been an artist.

Oh good. My eyes just see these things, you get it.
You are doing great! Don’t doubt yourself. “Hike your own hike!”
🌺 STILL WALKING TALKING GOING
I loooovvvveeee the shots of the plants swaying in the breeze!!!
I think I'm always too late watching these because there's never any likes or comments on my posts. 😅 Anyway, I agree with you Sunshine that you should just keep traveling all the way up to Maine. I almost feel like it's not doing the AT the way it's supposed to be if you split it. Just my two 🪙🪙. Love you guys, Nan

For us we want to end in Maine and go NOBO!
And the color and the different patterns etc, really appreciating the artistic nature views!!! You guys are doing great!!
I'm loving the "graphic designer" things you show us. 😀
Onward north if at all possible. 🦋❤️
i would definitely do the flip. It seems to me it doesn't matter which direction you are going as long as you walk the whole trail in one calendar year. I would go which ever way was most comfortable for me temp wise.
I have night sweats in the high humidity climate in my enlightened equipment 40 degree quilt. I wipe down before bed. I use a thin twin flat sheet, but just half of it. I cover with it first, and then the quilt. It was a great improvement for me.

Just did that and it helped a lot.
Stay NOBO. It is interesting to watch people that are doing this and balancing online jobs/school at the same time. Kudos. Safe trails.

OUr thoughts exactly
Stress of time deadlines makes it difficult for me to enjoy whatever I am doing. But congrats on meeting Will on time! So cool you two are so intune that you dreamed of KFC and he made it the dream a reality!
I would get your quilt liner back . We used a light sea to summit liner and washed them every time we did laundry. When it gets really warm we just used the liner. Instead of flip flopping you could just jump ahead few hundred miles than come back and complete them in the fall. We jumped from Daleville VA to Duncanon PA. That way you have two falls Sept in Maine than Oct/Nov in Va. many ways to hike your own hike. Climbing Katahdin after Oct 1 can sometimes be really snowy and they close the trail.

We did think about going ahead to get in the bubble, but then just decided maybe we can catch them. Ha
Yeah, almost 14 miles is NOT a nero! That was quite a day!
I'm not against flipping but I would definitely do nobo
Thank you
Hey there! I am enjoying your videos! I would also have that damp feeling. When I hiked I would use a bandana with water and wipe down my skin. I also used a liner in my bag and that helped with dampness and keeping me warmer. It also kept my bag cleaner and I could just wash my liner when in town.
I’d flip: because I’d feel less pressure. IMHO
I also get the night sweats, it’s callled perimenopause 😂
@WorldTowning
Ай бұрын
I only get them in my hiking equipment and not in regular sheets so not convinced it is perimenopause.
If I saw I was not going to make the deadline in Maine, I would push forward and get as far as possible, and then hopefully come back to finish. Flipping would not be the best option for me, I would want to see whatever was ahead on the trail, not turn back and hike the same section. Ever forward.

@@Getlostandwander If they have time for that, they have time to finish as they are,going now, and I think they are feeling the crunch of a hard deadline. Not just Largo's school, but also as a business they have some big trips coming up, including an organized hike on part of the AT. I like the comment below, this is really the time the enormity of the hike sets in even for people without a hard deadline. I'm rooting for them to get this done.
Last year the trail going to the summit of katahdin closed 10-21. Depending on your average miles per day it can make sense to flip up at some point and start heading south. Good luck on the rest of your journey!
Getting close to 1/3 of the way up!! Woohoo! I love listening to The Best and The Worst portion at the end of your videos

We are coming for you lady!!! Can't wait to see you.
Yes, that is your best schedule given seasonal change. And it could be fun.
I admire your tenacity to keep going NoBo and I think it just might work I suggest you not stress too much about it now so you can enjoy the rest of your hike to Harpers Ferry WEST Virginia:) Can you wait until to get there to decide?
I actually want to hike the AT SOBO once my son gets out of the Air Force . We’ve been talking about it for two years now. We live in NY I don’t think I’d want to flip but if there was a good reason and logistics make sense I probably would. It’s not my intention though.
@WorldTowning

Keep that hike on your list. Mother son is so fun.
I think your wanting to keep hiking nobo is doable. It would be so neat to see you finish in Main. Keep hiking the way that works for you.
NoBo. Fall colors should be awesome.

Good Morning! Sorry for all the wet shoes and socks! That must really be miserable! "Night sweats" are no joke either! I really enjoy the background music in your videos! Who makes those selections? 😊 ❤

Will is magical with music.
It seems to me that two of those mattresses would indeed fit inside the tent -- though maybe for a safety net, make the second one the narrower version ?

It is tight, but we are both happier.
The only flip i would suggest would be to flip up to harpers ferry, most people I'm following are just south of there now. I got there on 6/15 day 108. Then return to where u left and finish in harpers ferry. But I hiked so many under 17 miles days from there on, 90 to be exact 😅 that I think you could of easily have caught up to me! I could send will my spreadsheet of my hike if that would help. My hike took 7 months, Jan 28th to Sept 30th. I was slow intentially since I just wanted to finish before Baxter closed.

I think more than the 17 miles a day plan, think of the 100 miles a week plan. As of today you have 16 weeks till Sept 29th. That's 1600 miles. Your at 600 miles. So that makes it. Anything over 100 miles is in the bank. You could easily get plenty of nice neros and some zeros in 100 mile weeks.

We have thought about this to be more in the bubble and more community, but Captain does not want to as he wants to go straight up.
@WorldTowning

I think we can make it too. We are shooting for more than 100 miles a week at this point. Thanks for sharing all your wisdom.
with an early April start date and a pace of ~10 miles per day that would be a mid October finish. continuing NOBO is totally doable, though pushing close to the end of the season for weather. you would experience peak fall foliage in Maine. i reached Katahdin October 10. maybe try to increase you average miles per day? 10 mpd is kinda low almost two months into a thru hike. even increasing to 15 mpd means carrying fewer days of food between resupply. don’t listen to people who say Katahdin is closed on some date in October. good luck.
@WorldTowning
Ай бұрын
We have increased considerably. Shooting for an Oct 1 arrival
Since you want to end at Katahdin this Fall, have you considered skipping over the Shannandoahs and the “roller coaster” in VA? Rejoin the bubble at Harper’s Ferry? Maybe return to VA for the finish next year (or not?). Even though you would not complete the entire trail this year… completing the lion’s share in 2024 is still a huge accomplishment and worth celebrating. Surely many NoBo thru hikers - for one reason or another - skip over states in the interest of making it to Katahdin before it closes. 🤔
@WorldTowning

We want to do every part of the white blazes all the way to Katahdin. Well, that is the plan for now.
Is Captain growing a mustache?
@WorldTowning

Nope, probably just dirt.
Does it ruin the climax not climbing katadin at end of hike? Interest to know grow yo yo hikers
@WorldTowning

For us, yes.
These US thru-hike code names seem a bit silly to to me, from my European perspective -- but there is NO WAY that close to 14 miles is "near zero" !! My own "near zeros" are between 1K and 5K. Less than two miles ...
