Thanks Beth
There is something magical about the woods in the rain. The colors are more intense and mist and fog create a great mood. However the price is dealing with being wet and walking in wet shoes and socks.

so true
I laughed so hard, when the first shot showed you in your room. You looked like the cat that ate the bird. You both are so cute! Keep it real.
Confession: I absolutely love getting caught in the rain when it’s hot out! It feels so good to me!
@WorldTowning

Me too, but only if I am ready to zero because everything gets soaked for days.
@17:40 is the start of a magical canopy. 🩷🤠🩷
Just wanted to share the possible original meaning of Trail Magic from old trails in the UK. From Raynor Winn’s book, Landlines (hiking from the north of Scotland to Cornwall): “Trail magic is the wonderful theory that if you need help on the trail it will come from somewhere, as if by magic, or at the very least you’ll experience something that makes you feel awe and gratitude.” Love it!

Mexican food and bidet. What a funny combination. Walking in the rain is nice. Walking in pouring rain, soaking wet, not fun. Glad you chose to stay at that inn. And you got to meet people!! Sunshine, you are such a people person! And Captain, maybe you should zero out the miles deficit and start over. You both deserve a break.
@WorldTowning
Ай бұрын
Thanks! And yes, we are zeroing right now and not counting it against our deficit.
You’re the least judgy person I know!! That’s why I like you so much 😉. Having hiked in the pouring rain all day on more than a few occasions I can say absolutely that I would be choosing the Inn over the wet tent in wet clothes and wet everything!!! So great that it was there for you right when you needed it🙂
@WorldTowning

awh, thanks Jackie!!! Love that about you too.
I would have jumped on that Inn as well! I'm proud of you all!

You still have much to learn. Bed is ALWAYS better than tent.

ALWAYS!!!
You both look great! Your weight is up due to muscle! Strong ! Amazing! Warriors!!
This video is exactly as much about your still walking and talking as every other one of your AT ones so far. Delightful as always !! eh, that actually is a Northern Hemisphere rain forest, they're just a bit different to Equatorial or Southern Hemisphere ones ...
P.S.. i forgot to mention but your coreography to the Pretender's Song 500 Miles was pretty good :)

Get yourself a poncho. When I was hiking Dewey Lake in Mount Rainier I was on part of the PCT and it was pouring rain. Everyone I passed was wearing a poncho. It can go right over your backpack and it's so lightweight. And it's plastic so it won't absorb the water! Love you guys, Nan
@WorldTowning
Ай бұрын
Captain has a poncho for the next week before a new jacket arrives. The problem is that they poof out and it is easy to trip and have bad visibility of your feet which can be problematic on the AT since it is such a rooty and rocky trail.
I started watching when you very first got started and I have gotten so busy with life, I have not caught up. I’m inspired today to go all the way back to your first video and watch them all. You guys are awesome!!! Thank you for sharing.

So, I have had a conversation with my eldest daughter. She fully plans on moving to Spain when she grows up, and she agreed to hike the Camino with me when I come to visit her.🙂

OMG, you will love it.
You mentioned the possibility of a new rain jacket. My wife and I had REI rain suites for the longest. We recently bought the Montebell Versalite rain jackets and pants. Ultralight weight, packs away in a small bag, very breathable, and it doesn’t soak through very easily. We are currently walking the East Coast Trail. Two weeks ago we hiked for 8 hours in heavy rain and wind and they performed really well.
@WorldTowning

Thanks. Ordered a simple Froggs Toggs the other day. We'll see how it goes.
That hike is definitely a lot harder than Camino for sure. Fair play guys.

OMG YES!!!!
You guys are so funny talking about when you will hike and sleep in the tent for 5 days. My opinion, sleep where you want. You still hiked the miles.
Seam sealer is what a lot of other vlogers have used for their rain gear

Be careful in your foraging for berries, they also happen to be a favourite food for black bears!
The trail and the environment make it easy to pamper yourself.

In some places yes and in others hell no. Ha.
It's five days slackpacking -- because day one of it was the initial backpack day towards Will and the amazing first night you had as a family together again at last. Don't worry about it, every step of the way is FAR more important than anything else !!
Good choice of getting to a hostel, what worked best for me in the rain was use an umbrella. I stuck mine on stop across my chest so I still had hands free for trekking poles or filming. Do not need rain pants ,make sure pack has rain cover and I only used my rain jacket in the evening when cool and rain.
@WorldTowning

Had the umbrella since beginning but find it cumbersome. Will try it again on the next rain.

Confession number #2: I’m unaffected by Mexican food! No matter how spicy it is, my digestive tract handles it like a champ! No problemo!😁

so jealous
Sunshine, the kind of hiking you both are doing will not initially cause you to lose weight. Although you are burning calories you are gaining muscle .... Be mindful that muscle actually weighs more than your fat stores. You are steadily building muscle and exercising your heart muscle and getting stronger. You and Captain will be stronger for all your efforts. Be well and carry on..... Keep cranking it out.
@WorldTowning

Muscles for the win.
Love that you always put your day number in whatever the forest provides! Remember you doing that on the Camino. Good luck hiking with your full backpacks!

It is one of our favorite things about the vlog and then you all get to see what is in bloom in the area or what the terrain has in abundance.
I love Mexican too however, the way I have to go to the bathroom so much anyway I could not be on a trail. See you tomorrow. Take care.😊

Hike your own hike. It's terrible to be really wet all day. Safe travels.

You two have great attitudes. What you are doing is extremely hard and from what I am seeing the last few states are crazy hard. Keep it up!

It sure is hard, HARD! Thanks for your support.
Despite my European-ness -- I would DEFINITELY eat at El Burrito Loco !!
Muscle is heavier than flab. When you set out, volume is much more important than raw weight.
I love the idea of the book you are gonna write about romantic spots on the A.T.
Great job! Will be interesing to see what you go with for rain gear. I have been attempting to pick a rain "system" soooo many different opinions and options.

Trying out a Frogg Toggs this week, well, if we get rain. Ha! I have also resolved to just being wet since it is warm now.
definitely thinner however, muscle weighs more than fat so koodoos to you both
Not your tent 🤣
Love your videos! I hear that hikers use food bags for food storage. Where do you get these and would love to see a video on how you hang them!

I want you to be honest about trail conditions cause one day I may be walking those trails and I would hope they are well maintained

I didn't lose an ounce walking the Camino Frances! I think muscle must weigh more than fat! My husband lost 15 pounds!
@WorldTowning

interesting. Time will tell with us, but we are consciously working on keeping weight on.
You are gaining muscle, and muscle is heavier than fat. That’s why you look skinnier, but the scale isn’t reflecting it. Meanwhile, I hope that I actually lose weight when it’s my turn to through hike the Appalachian Trail…
lol it took me forever to stop saying AT. Trail

I am STILL doing it, ugh.
Properly adjusting the pack straps or harness is very important for your well being. Captain's pack looks like it leans to the left and can affect his back, hips, knees and/or ankles over a period of time. This is noticeable since he's usually in front walking away. Load balance is another topic for discussion over a beer sometime.......... p.s. - If yer not whiney, bitchy and or moaning then yer not having fun as well ..............enjoy
@WorldTowning

you are correct, it depends on how he puts the electronics in the bag and some days he just leaves it and others he adjusts it, but I have made him aware that long term this can be problematic.
