Oh my! If you are taking a call from 10pm - midnight, then waking up at 4am to start the hiking day, that is an extremely truncated sleep. Do you have many days with that little sleep? It must feel so wonderful to have real food mid-day and to see Will... it's amazing how the little things can bring so much joy when you've been deprived of them.

We usually get about 6-8 depending on hiking schedule, weather, etc.

FYI - we stayed at a new motel called “ grey pine lodge” near the entrance of Shenandoah south entrance where we met my son who is walking the AT ( 700 miles plus . Best beds so far lol . But no laundry , unfortunately. Be safe and I enjoy your daily walks 🫶🌟

With all the rain we’ve had there is no way the trail maintainers are going to be able to keep up with growth. For example: I noticed and measured the new growth on a white pine tree where I live, 18 inches already this spring. When the rains stop things will start drying up to make a fire danger. That is the chimney of his cabin. Google his life. Not a mean person. He chose the hermit life with his dog because of life experiences. 🦋❤️

I just watched the part about the 6 foot tombstone and I have to wonder if maybe the guy just carved that into an existing, maybe like you said, fireplace. Regardless, I agree with you, Sunshine, how sad it is what he wrote. May we all be more willing to be love and light to those around us and always smile because we never know when someone might be having a really bad day and it could make all the difference in the world for that one person

Apparently he chose to live like this as one of our community did some research and it was his fireplace.

I met WaffleHikes during my section hike from Duncannon to Carlisle, Pa. May 18th. I'm section hiking the RollerCoaster in Va. sometime in mid-July, maybe see you all as you head NOBO.

The giver also receives. It a joy to help others. I have a question, have you heard a fox scream yet? Today on my trail run a red fox (by sound and they are the most common where I live) was just letting it all out. So loud, and sounded really ticked off as foxes will. Just mentioning because if I heard that at night it would be scary.

So fun! I’m babysitting my Grandkids for 10 days and they have been watching with me. I think my 5 year old Granddaughter, Pearl, has a crush on Captain 🙂 She said today “Captain is sooo funny” When will Will get to hike with you? Or is that not in the plan at all?

I think it originally got it's name from a platinum credit card - hikers that stay at lots of hostels, choose the more expensive hostels or go to hotels instead. Buy more expensive food, think dehydrated meals every night instead of ramen. Maybe eat at more expensive restaurants in town. Just have a little more money to spend than maybe the average hiker.
