As an Apothecary Diaries fan, I understand what you’re saying. The story could have been better written and the pacing seemed off sometimes. But I think the real star of the show for me is Mao Mao, a refreshing female protagonist who women (and men too!) can actually relate to. I love that her intellect is from life experiences and that the romance aspect isn’t at the forefront. I personally like the slow-burn story, but it’s definitely not for everyone.

Yeah yeah, Frieren and Maomao are chrs for girls. That's fine, girls can have their stories too.

Maomao is a support women character, I get that. But Frieren is based entirely on the premise of grief, which is universal. Her gender isn't a theme in her story.

@@feelsbadman7134 I guess but the way the chr is portrayed really is to appeal a female audience, even the jokes and the way it's drawn. Lacks testosterone, that's fine. "A story that appeals to everyone, appeals to none" someone said.

seen like 4 episodes, can safely say I don't get the hype, but I'll watch some more. I do know some people absolutely love it, I don't get it, yet or possibly ever? I can clearly seen it's a shojo one, which is a genre I don't hate per se, I've gone it into, at times it does hit me. This one, I have yet to find an aspect like about it, the story is kind of boring.

Exactly! There were fire episodes and then there were moments when it absolutely dropped the ball. That final fakeout confession was so telegraphed you could see it from orbit. This is what happens when the characters are good and the story sucks, or is it that the author has no balls? We could have unveiled a grand conspiracy with court politics hidden in the background and fermented into a perfect explosion. The blue roses plot felt completely out of nowhere and disconnected like a kick-start without any setup even if it leads to the Maomao’s mom plotline, the payoff wasn’t earned. Lakan, Maomao’s dad, Jinshi, the emperor, the Concubines. Everyone is connected, and there is a conspiracy around assassinating Jinshi, and then Maomao should get dragged into it. But no. Absolutely nothing happened. The plot needs fixing, and it’s not even major overhauls. Just to weave together what already exists into a proper grand narrative. They had everything there! Maomao’s little mysteries all leading to the collapsing pillar.

Yeah, I watched the whole thing I agree. It wasn’t that good of a mystery. It makes no sense how the MC knows so much things that are outside of her speciality. But then she’s stupid when it comes to the guy liking her? Everything just works out too carefully, and the MC is just too perfect when she shouldn’t be. It is just not enjoyable for me personally. I think Gosick does a much better job of like a detective solving mysteries.
