Apollo Phantom: An Update For Those of You That Keep Asking About This Electric Scooter

Ғылым және технология

**This will be my last update on the Phantom. At this point, it seems foolish to not wait for version 3 aka V3 if you are interested in this scooter. It will allegedly have 60v and FOC controllers. This will hopefully make it competitive with a Vsett 10+, assuming the price tags are equivalent. (Description updated April 2022)

This exact thing happened to me (the neck broke) and I’m going to share with you my experience with this company. The day After I sent pictures of the cracked neck, I was personally called by (Maxwell) from Apollo, at which time he gave me 2 options: 1/ immediately send me another v1 phantom (along with the brace). Or 2/ Wait about 5 weeks and receive the latest v2 model coming out with some great upgrades including of course a stronger neck. I chose 2 and am glad I waited. My point is I’m seeing lots of negative experiences here and I feel I need to speak up because my experience with these guys has been the opposite. I think their a solid company with a superior product. Yes.....phantom v1 has some issues, and they have addressed them. In fact they are offering free upgrade kits to owners of v1 now. Now.....we wait and see how the v2 goes, but so far I’m loving it!

I also installed the neck brace on my V1 and received the upgrades package yesterday. I don't think I'm going to swap the new screen and throttle because I don't have any issue with the old screen and I prefer the key ignition throttle better (I've got used to the lagging response and can perfectly control the acceleration without any major jerking motion). I will just replace the plastic safety ring and the kick stand and keep the rest of the upgraded package as back up in case something broke in the future.

Ok, it looks like Apollo are more responsive than many companies and seem to be actively working towards improving their product. At the same time, I don't see anything wrong with highlighting the current shortcomings of a product if it is truthful and based on real user feedback. The end result should be a better product. I find it interesting that Apollo haven't been more transparent on this though, their openness was what attracted me to the brand in the first place.

I think Apollo is very good technically and mean well but I think they're trying themselves up in knots by pushing too.kuch too fast across too many models. The Phantom V3 is an example of this. I think Apollo would make a lot more money and enjoy higher customer satisfaction by focusing on getting the V3 to market 1st before driving new releases of other models that are less mature than the V3. If the V3 were delivered to market, THEN.the other lines, it would be stable thus freeing up Apollo's teams to proceed with the next lost popular model and so in until all their lines are mature and cranking a ton of money and satisfaction for them. Just my view.

It was made on china, that's why. Pot metal used and that's why a lot of Chinese made escooters snap. The 11X also snapped, but they fixed it very fast and they sent out free replacement parts in a recall. It's clear appolo know about this and unless you signed something, they is no "confidentiality clause" between you and them.

Yes, from my memory two 11x's broke and two wolf kings, then those were publicly acknowledged. Here the problem persisted for much longer, many more units. This happens all the time, dualtrons also had a stem recall earlier this year. IT's not uncommon. BUT, the neck brace is a first I've ever seen.

Hi Chris, Thanks for sharing those bugs, I think Apollo did improve any aspect of the Phantom. Two week ago a had the new Phantom V2 and they have improve many things. The frame that holding stemp has increase by 9mm, the console is get holded by a metal braket with to srew and nuts, the plug-in cap are in nice brass nickel brush that you screw, Stand is bigger, apparently this version has more intelligent engine / control how are more efficient, the dash is brighter, I have no problem during a bright day to see it and finally the thum trottle is such an improvement. I this will be one of the best in the market. The only odd thing is because of this new trottle, there is no more key. I am 235 Pound and I can reach 60km distance by driving modereately. In my opinion, I think Apollo did very nice job the Phantom. Hope taht will help other to be informed of the improvement they have did. JS

@@ScootaGang You have an important point. Since I've started searching for the right scooter, it didn't take long to realize that some of the folks doing "reviews" were in the back pockets of some manufacturers. You realize it when you join forums and see the REAL experiences people have with one model or another. The other thing I discovered is that many brands are literally using the same crappy components, assembling a nearly identical scooter and naming it differently when its the same Franken-Scooter that has the same issues no matter the brand. Finally, you have to be careful of many "reviewers" that subtly try to encourage you to buy add-ons, apply sealant, make modifications or provide some workarounds for crappy design, parts and performance of the Franken-Scooter they're getting compensated to promote. You really have to keep your eyes open and not settle for less than what is best value for your money 👍

People should know about this behavior because it blatantly demonstrates how much Apollo really cares about it's customers ... Plus they wasted my time with their faulty scooter, and endangered my safety as well as everyone I let ride the phantom... Their only supporters anymore seem to be those that got a free scooter, like yourself. Which I understand, I would probably feel the same way in your shoes, but to everyone else, Apollo needs to be exposed for what they did...

@@ScootaGang Did you buy your phantom in the first place or did they send a free unit for review? I am part of the Appollo FB group, I have seen many people having their neck cracked but all of them got a replacement for free, either a v2 or a v1 the neck reinforcement installed as well as the v2 kit. Regarding the security concern you have for people using the v1 currently, the neck reinforcement is here to save the day! Also it is worth noting that, as far as I know, nobody got injured because of this. The neck is slowly cracking, it is very unlikely that it fully break suddenly.

@@JulienChabanon Yes it was a loaner scooter for a month. Out of all the scooters I reviewed it was the worst, and I was ok with that, at the time, because Apollo said they took our feedback and made changes BEFORE delivering V1 scooters to customers. But then they didn't change anything. The pre-production model was the same as the V1 that everyone received. The neck reinforcement is unacceptable, ugly, and downright ridiculous. It is the evidence that they rushed the phantom release and should have done more testing before bringing it to market. It's not acceptable for any scooter to snap in two.

@@ScootaGang I get your point! But I think you are little harsh on them.. I am looking forward to the see you try the V3, your opinion might change as they improved many things :) And plus, this upgrade will also be available for free for v1 and v2 owner!

@@JulienChabanon I am harsh on them because they decided to lie about me and claim I was breaking an imaginary confidentiality clause. They have no integrity and have lost all of my respect. I deal with a dozen scooter companies and Apollo's the only one that tried to lie to cover their ass. It's unacceptable.

Does he have version 1 or 2? Hopefully Apollo has fixed this problem, but only time will tell.
