Man, you need to slow down. At those speeds, you could legitimately kill a pedestrian, especially on narrow paths like that one. I see you commonly weave over both lanes round blind corners at speed. You don't know what's on the other side. Also, people can just be unpredictable, they have noise canceling headphones, walking their dog etc. They could easily walk in front of you. I'm all for high speed scooters, but if you do road speeds, you need to be on the road, not on a shared or even bike path. Take it easy.

@@jriding6161 Great to hear! I take my Emove Cruiser to school each day, riding at around 50kmh on some roads. Near the primary school and high school I always slow right down on the paths, because I've had some kids run out of nowhere, others panic, it's just a mess. The roads are the safest. Floor it on the straights where you can see who is ahead.

Totally agree. When U ride reckless at high speed U risk INJURING SOMEONE ELSE and a BIG FAT LAWSUIT against U….hospital medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, over $100,000. It could bankrupt U. Please just chill and ENJOY a chill ride, be SAFE!

@@jriding6161 I think the trick is that when you approaching a bike or a pedestrian from either direction slow down then speed up when you past them. Old people and young kids can freak out.

I'm still a beginner with scooters, but a tip I would offer newbies like me is to overall just be 50% more cautious than you would riding a bike, and maybe 75% more cautious than driving. This means slowing down more and more often than you usually do, checking all ways at stops (including behind you), checking your blind spots religiously, being even more cautious with water, leaves and small debris. Don't ride through that pile of leaves, go around it or if you have to, get off and just walk your scooter. And before you hop and and blast that throttle on your commute or joy ride, make sure the brakes are working properly, tires have the correct pressure, and that the stem is properly secured. Scooters are awesome. They're a new and cool way to get around, and with serious and durable "real motorized vehicles" like the Phantom available at a fraction the cost of even a basic moped, yet possessing similar if not better handling and speed characteristics, I really hope they can reach widespread adoption. We early adopters should set a good example of safety and courtesy.

Shouldn’t be riding that fast in lanes that are shared with walking pedestrians. If that is your daily commute, it’s only a matter of time before a more serious fall/crash happens. Take it easy

@@lightningcount123 You're right. Whenever I watch my old videos, I cringe at how fast I was going with such little regard for others. Took me a couple of falls and close calls to adjust my riding. On the topic of stops signs, I know I blow by one each day and it's not right, but it's a low traffic area and I can see far enough to stop. In other videos I haven't posted where I see cars at that stop sign, I do stop. Just not when I can tell no cars are near. Thanks for your comment.

blowing through stop signs / red lights like that I'm surprised you don't get in more accidents. Please don't ruin scootering for the rest of us by emulating this behavior. Cities are cracking down on scooters because of this type of thing (in addition to the bad rental scooter users)

We just had a major accident with a scooter and a pedestrian on our college campus. The pedestrian got sent in an ambulance even though the scooter was a GOTRAX. If you are going over running speeds, stick it to the bike lanes. If you are over 15 mph, please stick it to the streets because someone is gonna get killed at that speed on a head on collision. Its probably safer for you to be with vehicles that are going at your speed and on a bigger road. I also sugget getting biker's gloves in case you crash, I got mine after I wiped out and scraped my hands that took an entire month to heal, mine only goes up to 17mph. With yours that goes 30+mph, I really suggest you to get more protective gears (knee pads and helmets, even if its just bicycle helmets) that may save you weeks of pain or even your life. Its also good pratice to ring your bell around long corners when you can't see objects forward, its a standard precaution where I live with motorized vehicles.

Thanks. It's illegal to ride a scooter on the sidewalks or on the roads here so bikes paths are my only option. I've always had a helmet but since this crash, I've now added motorcycle gloves. Ringing the bell before a blind turn is a good idea but I think it's better to slow down for those turns, which I now do. Thanks for your comment.

Yep he's too DANGEROUS! When I see people walking I need to slow down. Also that was he's fault that was a blind spot he's leaning towards left side he should stay in right side bad driver.

With the GoPro mounted to my chest, you can't see any head movement so you can't tell if I'm looking around or not. I blow 1 stop sign before hitting the bike path and after that, there are no more stop signs.

Pretty brave to post this, I think, as you have to know you would get scolded for speed and perhaps recklessness. Glad you and the scoot only had minor abrasions. Love my Phantom and she's a beast so not personally ever wanting to experience a fall that could damage her. Rode 20 miles today and hit a personal best of 43.5 mph on a very slight downgrade and a public street. (Was a 35 mph zone!) So I get the whole need for speed. Be careful and let's hope you and I never meet on the same path going opposite directions! LOL

It says ”SLOW” on the pavement for a reason. Were you racing the train? After you fell, you continued your trip at a similar speed. Why? Your recklessness endangered yourself and others. Slow down.

@@UninvitedGuestSpeaker As I've mentioned to many people already, my riding style has changed even though you don't see it in this video. I still go 55kph on the straight paths but I slow way down on every turn, bend and dip. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid.

E-Scooters are great hybrid vehicles. When you're on the road, you're "a car". When you're on a bike path, you're a "bike". When you're on a walkway (including sidewalks), you're a "pedestrian". Still, the main reason this particular fall happened was the rider riding the wrong way down the bike/run path to "cut the corner". The same thing happend less than a minute before when a pedestrian was along the edge of the road. In short, what I've learned to do on e-scooters are two things for these situations: 1) ride like a car/bike and stay in the same lane, with traffic, and 2) slow down and give right of way to people, including walkers/runners, and slower vehicles, including bicycles and e-bikes (if they're going slower).

Cool, this is great to see, I own one and love riding it! Feels somewhere between my motorcycle and a bicycle. I had to upgrade my front brake to an Avid BB7 , stock did not work very well.

Not sure if you were just going fast for the camera, seemed you could have gone down a few more times. I’m only 2 weeks into my Phantom and have had some close calls braking. It IS very thrilling though! Be safe!

55kph is my crusing speed and it can hit 63kph if I were crazy enough. I'll be slowing down at that corner every time now lol.

Gloves are also good for protection and wind on the knuckles . Soon much colder in Southern Alberta. Good luck and ride safe. I ride with the Apollo Explore 2021 and the Kaabo Mantis 10 pro Plus V2 2022 both have over 1500 km and no flat since May 22.

I wear gloves now but I'm still looking for a better armoured jacket and a full face helmet. I'm at 963KM and no flats so far but I did nuke a bearing in my rear suspension.

Ouch. You took that turn too fast. Also those caps need to be glued on. Consider a full face helmet too. Looks like you like to ride fast and a crash at that speed on your face can be devastating. One last thing too, never take your hands off the handle bars at that speed, I noticed you did at one point. Can’t state enough how dangerous that is.

I keep both hands on the handlebar all the time. I have been known to take one hand off at slower speeds to adjust myself but yeah, one-handed is super dangerous. Looking into a full face and some form of projective jacket.

You should be on the road going in 50+ kph. Not on a bike path. One day you will hit another reckless escooter driver going in 50. Thats a 100 kph crash and you should be happy if you even can walk after that. Or even be alive..

thanks for sharing this. I think alot can learn from these types of videos. But i wasn't really sure what happened that made you crash, was it you were close to some pedestrian and the u lost balance and fell?

Thanks! This is why I posted the video. To show people what happens when you make a mistake. I had crossed the center line and once I saw him, I moved around him but my body didn't follow the scooter. Was going way too fast to be able to precisely maneuver around him so now I go half the speed I went in this video, which was 52kph.

Wear gloves and a helmet. Took a nasty fall on the burn 2 yesterday. Shamed my head against the pavement. If I didn't have a full face helmet my brains would've been all over the floor. And gloves saved my hands. Ride safe!

the Phantom has plenty of power so even if you need to toss it into 3rd to pull up some hills, a 13 mile trip wont drain the battery...but would deff bring your charger and charge up at work to have it full for the ride home

I rode like a idiot when I first got mine. Hard to ride slow with all that power. Personally I think anything over 40 is too fast on scooter. On a full charge l got it up to 46 mph. Scary fast. If you haven’t already I would get a full head helmet/ motorcycle helmet. My cousin went down on a skateboard going 20 mph and split his head open. Although you are wearing a helmet, it doesn’t seem to be covering the whole noggin. One fall on your face going at those speeds and you’re done. I would also reduce your speed on that path by like 10 mph you’re straight up wild going that fast😂. Stay safe and nice phantom . I’m pretty sure I’m going to get the ghost pretty soon.

Thanks for sharing what can happen if you're not careful on a scooter! My biggest worry is we have a few incidents and governments decide it's easiest just to ban. It takes guts to post a video like this for people to criticize.

Thanks. I know there are some cities that are really backwards when it comes to e-scooters but I think that'll get fixed with time. It's a little backwards here in that I cannot use sidewalks or roads, yet rental scooters can, though it's not enforced as far as I can tell.

You okay? It sucks to pull the speed all the way and have near misses against bike commuters and pedestrians while losing gravity, but gotta like seeing how getting home with an Apollo phantom v2 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼

I think the speed limit on those paths in Calgary is 25 km/hr and you are doing double that speed. Also, pro tip I learned with motorcycles is always ride with your brakes covered with at least two fingers so it cuts the time down to apply the breaks. One extra second hitting the breaks can save your life. Another pro tip is only ever ride up to 80% of your ability because it leaves 20% for emergencies you cannot predict and if you had 20% ability in this incident to react with you would have avoided the crash. Stay shiny side up and slow down on the paths in Calgary because reckless riding will only ruin it for the rest of us when the public backlash hits the first time someone gets severley injured. These scooters doing 50+ km/hr are going to need to be insured and licensed if reckless riders cause crashes and harm to other users on the pathways. If you want to go 50 km/hr you should be on the street.

Calgary paths are limited to 20km/hr and if you knew Calgary by-laws, you're not allowed to ride anywhere but the bike paths, so I can't ride on the street if I want to. How do you measure your ability in a percentage? It's weird having someone tell me to save 20% of my skill for an accident lol. @@jriding6161 wow I just read the law and you are right. How do they justify allowing bicycles to operate on sidewalks, roads, and bike lanes but not escooters?? That is silly. Nearly every Bicycle can travel up to 60km/hr or more and very few scooter owners have scooters that can go above 30km/hr. I ordered the Phantom V2 and am now worried I'll be ticketed and have it impounded if I use it to commute to work on the cycle lanes downtown. Not sure how these laws promote alternative forms of transportation and help reduce emissions. Guess I'll take my chances and ride cautiously to not draw attention from police.

Mind you, the rentals are limits to 20kph so that's likely why but that's like banning cars from the 50kph zones cause they can do over 100kph. Most bikes are going at 20-30kph and some go even faster so I'm not the only one going over 20kph. Even when I pedalled into work, I could easily hit 25 on the straights and over 40 downhill. I do know that the speeds aren't enforced here. I also know the cops aren't going to come after you for riding on sidewalks and the roads, but they could if you cause a problem. That's the grey zone here. Laws says you can't, but cops often don't want to stop you as they have to deal with paperwork. Loll.

Is it usually a 15 min commute for you from Thorncliffe? I am thinking I might try commuting from Auburn Bay but wonder how long it will take.

18 mins, give or take. Auburn would be a much longer ride into the core. Easily 3x the distance.

I’m surprised the scooter was still alive and kicking. I know with crashes wires get pulled from the battery pretty easily causing crazy F errors on the display. Glad to see everyone’s okay. Be careful at those speeds. Just like a car… you can trust yourself, but there’s always 1 idiot that will do something blatantly stupid that you’re not expecting at all and it will mess up your day and theirs.

I paid about $2700 Canadian and it arrived in 3 business days. Unexpected changes? Not sure what you mean but the e-scooter was flawless and hasn't giving me any trouble. Not even a flat tire after 1400km.

Nice scooter, just ride a little slower bro. Your health is more important than fast speed. I bought my escooter so I could take in and explore where I live more than driving. Stay safe

Thanks. It's my daily commute to work so you build up a certain amount of confidence doing the same path over and over again. I was noticing my total ride time was decreasing with each ride to the point where you couldn't go any quicker without taking more risk and that's just not worth it. Since this fall, I've reduced my speed around turns by probably half.

Don't be so quick to judge. I now go half that speed on this particular corner and I slow down for corners that I wouldn't have previously. If you can see far ahead, it's ok to go fast, just don't go fast when you don't. :D

There's a secure bike room for tenants in my building. I have the folding lock from Apollo which I used for the first week, but then dedicated the room was safe enough.

@@acidfloyd2 The bike room only has racks for bikes on the walls to hang, but there's planty of floor space for e-scooter and e-bikes. I see other scooters there all the time. I've used my lock to secure my e-scooter for 10-15 mins max. I don't really trust that lock to keep my e-scooter safe for very long.

The way he flying around the corners is scary especially with people walking and riding bikes

At the time of this video, I only wore a normal bike helmet which isn't enough by a long shot. Since this video, I ride with gloves and a BMX-style full face helmet with BMX goggles. I also a lot slower, especially in the corners where you can't see far.

10:27 this guy one day will fall by himself and break something... i mean i guess the scooter is safe, but his driving is too agressive... he drives like hes racing all the time, dude slow down, at least on corners... that speed if you hit something you break bones for sure... not to mention the head but i hope at least hes using a helmet... he went full race mode 5sec after a crash... tbh i think people sometimes only learn when something really bad happens...

I'm in Calgary too, but I'm sure you knew that from the video. :D It's legal to ride an e-scooter in Calgary on bike paths. You can't ride on the roads and you can't ride on sidewalks, but all bike paths are fair game. There's a grey area because no one lives on a bike path so clearly they must allow for some use on roads/sidewalks to get to a bike path right? That's the idea. From what I can tell, it's not enforced at all as I've personally taken my e-scooter on roads and sidewalks as needed, around cops, and no one batted an eye. The unofficial rule is, 'Don't give them a reason to stop you' so try to be courteous and don't ride fast on sidewalks and/or don't ride on the roads during heavy use. Most cops/bylaw officers won't know a non-rental scooter from a rental scooter until you start doing stuff rentals can't do like hitting 60+KPH. Hope this helps.

You can't tell from the video but because I have a chest-mount GoPro, you can't see my head movement. That stop sign and red light are on low-traffic roads and you can often blow by them.

Long time cyclist here, bike paths are not safe above 15 mph.. even worse in blind turns, they aren't designed for speed. Glad no one was hurt. Though I'm thinking of getting your scooter for traveling around town for photography... I was wondering about how "crashy" they are, camera gear is expensive.

In the straights where you can see quite far ahead, 30-40mph is fine. On any turn, bend, hill or tight space, you really need to slow way down. Which I learned the hard way. My GoPro never touched anything, nor did my head so I was pretty lucky.

@@jriding6161 My cycling experience is that's it's not the roads that are a problem it's other people. They don't look around and check for fast moving objects. Just last year a jogger turned right in front of me as I was passing her, and she took me down from my bike, I was going about 12ish mph so no one was hurt. She had headphones on and didn't even look over her shoulder before she turned. It's not like driving a car where everybody is following the rules of the road and have mirrors etc. There's a lot more chaos... People with dog's on leashes.. kids wandering all over the place. Old people holding hands walking in the middle of the path. It's the difference in speed between objects that cause the most injury.

@@AstroSquid Oh I fully agree. It's always the other people. Just the other day I was moving along and saw 6 people walking on the path, all abreast so they were blocking both lanes. I saw them pretty far ahead so I knew to slow down. Same for dogs, when I see dogs, I slow right down because the other day, a dog was chasing me on the way to the bike path. The lady was telling me her dogs LOVES scooters and was apologizing but it didn't bother me as I was going 5-10mph. Hitting my bell doesn't seem to make a difference for those types of people. They usually just stand there, looking around trying to find the source of the bell.

Hey let me ask you a question. I'm shopping around for a e-scooter, I'm liking the V2 you have..It's how I found your video. Will it fit in a small trunk? I'm have a Subaru Impreza.. I also wonder how often one crashes on e scooter? I'm thinking of using one for photography, which means I'll be hauling a backpack with lenses and equipment. I figure I scooter is safer than a one-wheel.

​@@AstroSquid The main problem with the Phantom is while the stem folds down, the handlebars do not so it's still quite wide when folded up. I can't say for sure if it'll fit your Subaru trunk but check out this site, it has all the specs; electric-scooter.guide/reviews/apollo-phantom-review/. As far as crashing goes, this was my only crash in nearly 900km of riding, and I had a few drinks after work which likely contributed. My speed was also a factor so if you were to stick to gear 1 at 35kph. I doubt you'd crash at all.

Riding like this is what gives them reason to make laws. Takes the fun away 😮‍💨

You ride too fast in a shared lanes. After work it should be relaxing ride and wear gloves. I almost crashed riding my Segway even I was riding slow because one cyclist decided to stop in the middle blocking the whole lanes. Also almost lost my Insta360 when it happen, it fell off on the side and I realized it afterwards 15km away already, luckily the camera was still there and it still keep recording the bushes so I recover my $850 camera. Anyway thanks for sharing and try to enjoy the ride not the speed, ride safe.

I sure did. I'm now going half the speed and I expect to stop because as you said, it should be relaxing.

You know, I am just as guilty. I didn't have mine 2 months, thought it was a bicycle, and at higher speed than I should have been going, had a blow out and down I went, also, the faster you ride, the more maintenance! Brake pads wear quickly with fast and hard stops, and seems the parts are going to be a big part of expense of ownership. I cut way back on the use of my Apollo. They need to evolve a bit more user friendly before I would recommend buying an inexpensive scooter first, using it for a couple months then purchase an Apollo if you like.

I don't find maintenance a huge issue. 1500KM and my pads are fine (they are ceramic) and my tires are in good shape though I plan on replacing them with PMT tires next year. Not sure what you mean by user friendly, the Apollo Phantom is amazing and super easy to use.

Yeah, that's exactly what I do now. When I watch my first video, I cringe every time I blast around a blind corner. Now my rides are far more safer. Thanks for the comment.

Definatelt a few moments in this ride where you were out of control and you didnt know it, spend some time on a mtb or bmx, your control will go up alot. And it will force you to stay safer as you will know the limitations of your vehicle and your skills.

Have you heard the saying... It's better to be safe than sorry ? And there's another one... You should learn by your mistakes

Trust me, I've learned from my mistakes. I no longer take that blind that fast and instead I ride my brakes and slow way down. Thanks for your comment.

Completely accidental. I thought he was over the line when I crashed but when I look back, I was over the link. 100% my fault and I paid the price. I haven't posted a new video showing how I ride, but I can assure you I go half as fast on that turn and I never cross the center line. :D

This is why e bikes have limits. Coming to scooters too with this type of riding.

1 minute in the vid and I can already see two reasons why you crashed. 1) you are travelling against the direction of bicycle traffic and 2) you are going way too fast.

Ya, but you can't see my head moving to check for oncoming traffic, which there was none.

In a day and age of people that are absolutely intolerant of what someone else do, going this fast next to pedestrians and cyclists will only encourage hate toward electric scooting. In most erea, riding anywhere but on private land is illegal but still tolerated. Electric scooting is still marginal and it is up the every riders to provide a good image and be embassador of the good and benefits of electric scooting. If you want to go fast and have fun there are probably some places that are better suited for this. Take it or not but YOU are the problem.

Thanks for your comment. It's only legal here on bike paths which is also shared with pedestrians so I can't ride anywhere else. I don't care about people who aren't tolerant because as you said, they're intolerant so why waste energy? Glad you enjoyed the video.

Oh my gosh, please slow down! Please don't hand you or someone else a Darwin Award. Scooters are like maverick horses, barely tamed and ready to run wild at any moment. Stop signs aren't suggestions! 😵‍💫 Way too fast for public paths! If you want to fly, buy yourself a jet! 30 or so MPH on a shared path? I get the need-for-speed too, but not anywhere where's there's pedestrians! Living on the edge you are.

Too fast one lanes dawg. Like for real should not be freaking people out. I said to myself. If My bike can go 0-30 within 3 to 4 seconds. Then I can slow down a bit. Which also helps with preserving as much battery as possible

Are you talking MPH or KPH? Bikes lanes are limited to 20 KPH but I usually sustain 55 KPH. I once tried going at 35 kph but man alive it was slow. I just love going fast.

@@ripp3rjak934 Drinking coffee while riding has to be more dangerous than not drinking coffee while riding no? I never said 55kph wasn't fast. It's very fast. My Phantom can do 65kph but I stick to 55kph as going an extra 10kph just means more time accelerating and braking.

@@jriding6161 I don’t think you understood what I said. I don’t ride 30mph drinking coffee. When you have a coffee in your hand it forces you to go at a much slower pace. I ain’t talking about riding beside traffic drinking coffee. I’m talking riding with coffee on a public trail where people walk. Having that coffee in my hands forces me to move slower and have better control over my bike. It’s EASY to go fast. It’s much harder to control your urges. I go as slow as 15 to 20. When I have coffee in my hand. Which forces me to have better slow AND controlled movements. It’s discipline. If your bike already goes 0 to 30 in 3 something seconds. It wouldn’t hurt to slow down when your using a PUBLIC trail. If you want to go fast go on the road.

This video really infuriates me… at 10:17 when you flew by the mom with the stroller and the guy walking his dog… That being said, I’m really happy to hear that you’ve been riding safer from what you said in the comments, so thank you for your efforts, we can ride quick and safe at the same time! I don’t want E scooters to be outlawed like they are in Quebec, all it takes is one bad incident and they’re illegal.

Thanks. Yeah, it looks much closer on the video than it is in person. In Calgary, it's only allowed on the bikes paths. No roads & no sidewalks which makes for better riding but people still walk on the bike path, cause it's also a walking path so I've adjusted my riding so I'm not close to people when I have to pass and I hit my bell more often.

Dude SLOW down on walking paths when you see people walking SLOW DOWN your dangerous. Also it's your fault for leaning towards left lane and that was blind spot not good wear a protective gloves.

Sorry but this is exactly why we will have stricter regulations very soon with regards to electric recreational vehicles like scooters and bikes.. Riders aren't using enough common sense on walk paths and roads so they can show off or make videos.. It's one thing if you are going fast where it's safe to do so but come on man, you're blowing by people on a public walking path in a park.. When we start getting taxed or harsh regulations you can thank riders just like this and all those sur-ron type bikes blowing by cars on the road.. You're ruining it for the legitimate people that just want to ride to have fun or commute to work. You can ride these things and still be respectful.

WAAAY TOO FAST on pedestrian sidewalks!! WHEN U injure a pedestrian, U can expect a BIG FAT lawsuit for personal injury. (If U hit me and inured me, I’d take U to court for $100,000). There’s zero insurance that will cover U for that bill.

Agreed. Which is why I slowed down at all corners and I anticipate that I need to stop so I'm more prepared to stop.
