'Masterpiece' might be something of an exaggeration, no? It's all blood and gore, and rather limited narrative. At least Gibson got to live out his violent fantasies and bloodlust. My favourite scene in the movie is actually towards end when they run into the Europeans, just having discovered America, now rowing ashore from their great ship. How alien that picture seems to the natives, and just the historical significance of it, and the clash of cultures. A powerful moment.

People have opinions, yours is not the only one, accept it. You should try work on your tolerance ;) By the way, although life in the past was harsh, and all sorts of crazy business has been done in the name of religion and superstition, the events in the movie is hardly representative of the "everyday" life of these people. Movies are very rarely realistic depictions of life, and ironically, this movie is very much a fairytale. For the record - I did like the movie, even if I don't think of it as a masterpiece.

I Remember my Husband Adam had rented This Movie when he came home from work, we had dinner, put the kids to bed, Adam and I would go to the Living Room, turn the Dual VCR and DVD Player On, I would get a bowl of Hot Popcorn, Two Candy Bars, and Two Pepsi Sodas, Adam would put the movie in, he would sit down on the couch beside me, I would give him the candy bar and the Pepsi Soda can, we would have the big throw blanket over our legs, He would have his arm around me, he would push the play button, and over the next few hours we would sit there in spellbound silence, This Movie was Unbelievable, from Start to Finish, I had to cover my eyes on most parts of the movie, Adam and I would laugh at the part when that tree was falling beside that guy, when He and his men were leading the captured men and women, after leaving the children alone at the river crossing, I thought that the tree was going to kill him.

Every Mel Gibson movie is a masterpiece including brave heart which he directed and acted in. My dream is that he one day makes an epic about the battle of blood river in South in 1838 when 400 Boers under attack from the savage zulus defeated a 10 000 strong army of theirs and killed approximately 3000 of the zulu impi warriors. The story leasing up to the battle and the battle itself is nothing short of amazing

One of the best movies I have ever seen in my life !

Fun (or sad) fact: This scene was inspired by a real event, when an Apache leader who escaped the US Army for five years and was the last renegade indian band to surrender in the US Indian Genocide. He was being pursued and became trapped. His only escape was to jump off a cliff into a river below. On horseback, he took this route. As he went off the edge of the cliff, he yelled his name, "Geronimo." Surprisingly he and his horse survived the fall, but was later captured and died in prison. The US army insists that it was by "natural causes".

Thats what I mean, it doesn't have to be a true story for the background stuff to be accurate and realistic for the time period, essentially what I'm talking about is a period piece. I'm not dissing the movie, in fact its one of my favorite ones. If Mel Gibson wasn't going for historical accuracy with the setting, not the story itself but the background information, thats fine. But it's still inaccurate, nothing you say will change that 🤷‍♀️

@@pandorabryant1907 "But it's not supposed to be a true story" While that's true but if your going to do a story that is set in a specific time period setting you should make sure that everything fits in that time period It's doesn't have to be a documentary or biopic to be as close to the time period as possible

I can watch this movie over and over again. That's why I bought it...

One of my fav movies of all time. I used to run like crazy on treadmill while watching this! LoL!

I loved this movie. My takeaway was that in some instance, being momentarily brave isn’t enough. Jaguar Paw had to be intensely and fiercely without fear repeats and relentlessly, to get back to and protect/save all that mattered to him. Not for power, not for riches, but to save his family. This really is a gold standard in filming. Great actors, great story… Folks bust on Gibson for the artistic licenses he takes with history, but this is just a great, great movie.

I have watched this movie several times I don't get bored

I lived with my sister and her husband briefly after high school... we had a mechanic who spent 3 weeks with us... and no shitting friends, he had me play this movie for him every-single-night of those three weeks.
