Aphex Twin - Phantoms (A Soundcloud Journey)
I was looking for something similar to NIN's Ghosts, when I found all these Aphex Twin's Soundcloud tracks...I tried to make a selection and create a thematical playlist: no dance or d'n'b this time, but mainly dark ambient, atmospheric electronica and some industrial. The tracks' order is thought to evoke the feelings of a particular "journey," as suggested by the titles of the sections (however I think this is almost subjective!). I divided the playlist into sections also because of its length. Hope you enjoy!

I think all the mixes that came out of Aphex Twin's Soundcloud era are one of the best things about it. A huge amount of fantastic work by one of the greatest artists living today organized by the community into new and interesting forms. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

He has much more stuff on Spotify which is a reason I stopped my subscription with Soundcloud and swapped to Spotify. That and Soundcloud is full of terrible rappers that always end up being auto-played. Spotify is all around a better system.

Aphex Twin has been my favourite music artist since about 2003 or so, he has consistently astounded me over the years. I suspect Richard D. James will be thought of posthumously as akin to Beethoven or Duke Ellington. Selected Ambient Works, RDJ Album and Druqks are some of the greatest.
This man is the creator of several genres of ambient and some forms of acid, breakbeat, etc. I have listened to him since 1997, Come to Daddy EP. His breakout album on a "mainstream" level, with the music video for "Come to Daddy, Pappy Mix". Having amassed almost 1000 original songs and remixes, I am determined to find them all! an impossible feat, to say the least. I am also determined to see this man LIVE, missed him in Houston, Dec. 16th 2016. Kicking myself for that one.... Forgot about this!!... I ended up finally seeing Rich in Brooklyn!! It was surreal, he really left it all out there, didn’t hold back. Trolled us, well! With the crying and screams, oh Ricky!! I’m determined to see him again, whenever this nonsense ends, if it does.....

Well shit, I saw him in Philadelphia around 1993 and he sat under his equipment the whole time. Instead of RDJ there was a half naked man dancing around on the stage. I remember he reminded me of Caliban from Prospero's Books.

September 3, 1997, age 26, the opening night of the CMJ Music Festival at the Roseland Ballroom with my best friend. We waited SIX hours for him while five other acts played-including the US debut of Daft Punk. He played for 20 minutes twiddling knobs on a little grey box, acting bored, while the bears from “Donkey Rhubarb” did lewd acts on the stage. MTV covered it as part of the very last edition of “The Week in Rock.” What a show! Peace.

It's Aphex Twin. No 'S'. It's one man. Richard D James. But yes, love everything he does. When I was 17 back in 1995, he played at the Firestone in Orlando, FL. He gave away masks of his face to everyone at the door who came in. So everyone in the club was wearing his beautifully acid'd out smile. It was quite the journey through sound. Thank you mushrooms.

Aphex Twin comes up with some of the most original sounds. Love it!
"thanks, scott."
My god, the track Sekonda at 2h29m.... Love. I've been listening to Aphex Twin off and on for over 20 years, which seems crazy, but even crazier that I discover ridiculously amazing tracks I've never heard before. The man is a mad genius. One of the legit GOATs.
Thank you so so much. Been a very longtime fan of everything, and having a curated, ambient/noise ish playlist is amazing.
Amazing sound combinations! Sublime.
yessssss. this playlist from aphex twin was exactly what i needed. love the way you selected the tracks
Thank you so much for this wonderful journey. I fell asleep at 7am and woke up at 2pm today, and I'm trying to sleep at 11pm. Even the darkest depths of this are somehow comforting. Goodnight
Awesome mix. Thank you for putting it alltogether in some thoughtful manner.

I remember the track Sekonda by ear but didn't remember the name so thanks for reminding me. It invokes a very nostalgic feel as the string/perc pluck sounds that dominate it throughout feel sonically close to MIDI strings used in 90s/2000s CD-ROM games. Particularly Freddi Fish
Japan has such nice heavy-duty metallic sounds, absolutely insane with the ambient bg. ∂ƒ∆ [rough mix] is such a gem too.

I've been listening to Aphex for 20 years and consider him in my top 3 most influential musicians. Adore him, but the harmony on Utopia sounds like a 9 year old dicking around and hitting accidental notes but going along with it. Lol. Stil love it though :)
