I've already had multiple people correct an error in the worldwide weekend graphics. Obviously I got a little lost in the charts and mixed some numbers/titles up as I was building out the chart. The good news is that it would have happened no matter what day I did the show. I'll revise and correct for next week.

International posters for the monsterverse are sick
@DanMurrellMovies
14 күн бұрын
They are, right? In general, I think that international posters are usually better than domestic ones. I like some of the international ones for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes way more, including the one I feature on the show. I think the main domestic posters are some of the blandest marketing I've seen in a while. It's mostly way too safe and sterile now, especially for blockbusters.
@rampantrambling8178

@closeben

I would consider the international Kingdom poster similar to most bland Hollywood posters. I prefer the domestic version which I think sets the tone better. Although my favourite is the original teaser poster with the wide shot and silhouette of the ape on the horse. The other ones are just a bit bloated, filled with more detail than necessary - although this is also because now when they make a poster, it’s not just the poster, but the billboard and giant banners/poster plastered in the malls etc, which when printed in that size do deserve to have more detail.
@AbdullaFilmAS
13 күн бұрын
@@DanMurrellMovies why are you guys calling them international posters? it seems to me like the posters are in sepcific asian letters like chinese or japanese or whatever. so they're not really international just from another country specifically. and i've been to cinemas in 5 different countries and all of them use the "domestic posters" from the US. like sure there might've been created some special ones that are used some places but generally the US poster is the one that's used in most places. so wouldn't that mean the US poster is the international one? since the US poster is the one you see again and again in most countries where as the others are specific to one country only? like the godzilla king of monsters poster here. that's not an international poster, it's specifically a chinese poster. what is international about a poster only for one country? where as the "domestic" poster is actually being used in multiple countries; basically all european countries no matter the language and i'm sure it's being used in a lot of asian countries as well. idk, maybe it's a dumb thing to question but i just don't get calling this poster for instance the "international poster" instead of just "chinese poster"
A series that has been around since the 1960s, seven years since the last film, without its most recent lead character, set narratively hundreds of years later, with mostly unknown actors (at least to general audiences) and it STILL pulls in almost $60 million in a post Covid market according to the most recent estimates is incredible. As for the audience scores, I’m hoping it’s something similar to Civil War. In that audiences ding it for being slower paced than they expected, but it still can have a decent multiple the way Civil War has despite its B- CinemaScore. The fact Apes had a good Saturday hold from its Friday opening is at least a positive sign for now.
Surprised to learn that there were so many ridiculously-named sequels already in the 1970s

6:35 - The fact that when adjusting for inflation, Kingdom of the Planet of the apes sold less than half the number of tickets in the 1st weekend as the Tim Burton version, think this really shows the challenging situation the movie industry is currently in. It is simply a lot more difficult to get the audiance out the theatres than it was 23 years ago unless the moive is a big event like Avatar or Barbie.

Moving to Mondays is the smart thing to do, because you used to be upstaged by "Beyond The Trailer" who basically has always made this same show on Mondays, so your show looked like a rehash of old news when it was on Tuesdays. Now you get to have your takes first on the box office news or at the same time, so viewers can compare them better. Keep up the good work!.

So true... I like Grace and this show too.
Hey Dan, I’m actually ecstatic about your move back to Mondays as I had fallen off watching the show regularly but now will 100% be back on board! I program the weekly show schedule for a movie theatre and having Charts back means I can start the week getting the info from YOU, before looking at our chain’s grosses, spending time with the numbers, and then making the schedule. When you were on Tuesdays I was already tired of reading and thinking about the numbers but now I’m glad to be back to a much more enjoyable start to Mondays. Thanks!
Dan this comes with deep love and appreciation so I hope you don’t misunderstand or be sad .. I honestly preferred the later show with the “weekends actuals”. All other outlets that I know of report box-office estimates and they almost never report the news a second time with the corrected numbers. I get the appeal of the fast news cycle and potential larger audience, but to me your show is unique because of weekend actuals. I don’t mind waiting a bit for it, in fact every week I eagerly look forwards to it. I know you trying it this way as summer experiment… either way whether it ends up being weekend estimates or weekend actual to me it’s absolutely worth it to keep watching the show, your commentary alone is makes all worthy. You one of my top 3 film reviewers ever and you are always awesome !!

For the record, I am going to report the news a second time with corrected numbers, if need be. Next week will likely have an update with the higher final numbers. Honestly, part of it is audience-driven. If I saw huge support for waiting until Tuesday for actual numbers, I'd keep doing the show on Tuesdays. But my show lags significantly behind some other box office shows that come out a day or two earlier and I do need to explore ways to grow the channel. Box office news is timely, and I haven't seen huge increasing demand for a show that's not as timely. I am grateful for the audience I have and I do appreciate what you're saying but doing the show on Tuesdays may fall into the same category as doing All My Movies: if the support was there, I'd keep doing it, but I have to also make sure that I'm doing the best I can as far as optimizing my time and the growth of the channel.
Monday shows are a great change. I'm a regular watcher and would be watching either way, but I love getting these shows fresh off the weekend.

Amazingly comprehensive analysis.
Hey Dan - maybe like what you did with the Godzilla films, you can do a future Apes watch and rank project? Probably would be less daunting then the former!
I don't remember what it was that pulled me in but despite never having seen any of the original series I showed up for Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes on opening night (and in 2001 I never did movies opening night because of where I lived).
Dan the reason you're worth watching is precisely because you quality control and explain your stats - right down to how you abbreviate the numbers. That plus your history of accountability means we know you are trustworthy. That's gold dust in our modern capitalistic world. Precisely because genuine trustworthiness has zero to do with profitability. For that exact reason I hope this channel grows and grows. Because we need more channels, commentators, content and businesses like yours!
I'm definitely liking the show now being on Mondays. I know you have to use the dreaded estimates, but I think you can still do the deep dives that you want.

Much prefer it on Mondays. Love the channel..Keep it up!
Lol for the Planet of the Apes franchise tracker, I would've just nicknamed each by their first name (Rise, Dawn, War, etc.) because those are some long names!
Hi Dan. Love the work you do! You have always been my favorite box offices channel since you always try to look at the data and make rational and objective comments about the box office! However, since you have started talking about wanting to grow the channel and stuff, I thought I might offer my point of view on Charts with Dan. A thing I have noticed over the years is that Charts with Dan have gotten a lot more charts, and for me that have made the different uploads a bit less exciting. I loved the 15-20 min episodes, maybe with a cool look at a interesting extra topic as you so often do for 5 min. But nowadays almost all episodes are 30+ min. I know there have been added more sponsors to make it so that you can earn a decent living. Nevertheless, the epsiodes have in my opinion gotten quite a few more niche charts that maybe only interest a minority of the viewers, which may could be left out. So if you want to draw are larger recurring audience, it could be an idea to go back to a more slim version of the episodes to make them more interesting. For example, I skipped around 12-15 mins (2,5 min of sponsors) of todays episode, due to parts I dont really find interesting, and I am one of the loyal viewers that have watched almost every charts with Dan segment since I found you at Screen Junkies. Off course this is only my opinion, but it could be something to think about :) Let me know if you want me to elaborate. And again love you and love your work. Keep it up! :D

It’s hilarious that Dan still calls it the “road to recovery”… Isn’t it about time to just call it the new normal? It’s a great chart, super interesting, but we’re never hitting again the relative theatrical highs of the pre-pandemic. Things have changed, and that’s ok. It’s not a bad thing.

Moving to Monday has another great benefit. We'll be able to tell how accurate the estimates are. If you have to make three corrections a year, that tells us that the industry basically knows what they're doing with those estimates. I find that potentially fascinating.
And another excellent Dan episode in the books !
Yay for Monday
I'm overjoyed to hear this as I love this franchise and hope it continues, at least for one more trilogy taking us to 6 films (though I know there's plans for 9 total), It's funny though as these movies seem to do well but I feel like I know barely anyone that's watched them. Their loss!
