I've had the mtx-rc 2nd stage and octo though for about a year now. Really happy with it. Used in cold north sea and warm Mediterranean sea. The bag is cool as you can use it as carry on baggage for the plane so I wasn't too bothered about the weight.👌🙂

I wish you showed it set up, so I could see the hose angles. Hoses should be flush and clean against you. Not creating gigantic loops that add drag and become potential snag spots

Hi Mark, with respect to the "all ports plugged" question, it may be worth having a look at the HP plug. Some of my Apeks HP plugs have a hole in them like the HP hose. This once caught me off guard when I tried to use one of them to plug an HP port on a first stage with two HP ports and the stage would leak upon pressure testing. I changed the port plug o-ring and investigated the heck out of this problem before I noticed that hole. If one of those is used here too, then there is your answer to pressurizing the first stage without anything attached. It will just slowly depressurize and you can take it off.

I love my Apex (please no brand religion) I have other regulators as well. They breath well no crazy free flow lots of adjustability my shop has no problem doing the service on them

I dove my MTX-RC today for the first time and was really disappointed. Totally froze up and uncontrolled free flow. Temps were cold ( water 1c, air -18c) but not what i would consider pushing limits. I'll baby it more next dive and see what happens.

As to weight, the MTX-RC comes in at 1200g, equivalent to a pair of shoes heavier than the ultra lightweight Apeks Flight which isn't certified below 10C. If you want a robust reg to dive UK as well as the tropics I'd say that's not an issue.

Besides the cold water stuff is it better than the XTX 200 sets ? Are these the top of the line overall in the apeks range ?

Yes, I'd say they're the top of the Apeks line. The XTX-200 comes with the FSR first stage, which is an amazing first stage for delivering air, but it doesn't have a swivel turret. The MTX-R(C) first stage is basically an FSR with a swivel. And it comes standard with a 5th port. The XTX-200 you need to have a 5th port added. Only the Tungsten comes standard with a 5th IP port. Furthermore you can get the MTX-RC in a long hose configuration from the factory, and the MTX-R in a sidemount configuration from the factory. If that doesn't tell you these regulators are made for the serious diver, I don't know what will. I will admit I'm biased. I have the military MTX in a long hose configuration with an extra first stage. All I need is to add two TEC SPG's with short HP flex hoses to convert it to a sidemount set.

Not likely. They already offer the MTX-R in the sidemount config. But you only need to add two 18 cm HP hoses and another TEC SPG to turn it into a sidemount set.
