Apathy and Anger in Bareilly: A ground report from a BJP bastion | The Caravan
Bareilly voted in the third phase of the 2024 general election, on 7 May. Turnout had been indifferent in the first two phases-Uttar Pradesh recorded 61.1 percent in the first phase and 55.2 percent in the second, both significantly lower than the national average. The constituency had a turnout of 57.9 percent, almost identical to the average for the ten UP seats voting in the phase.
In Bareilly, the Bharatiya Janata Party set aside its eight-term incumbent, Santosh Gangwar, a 75-year-old former union minister, and gave the ticket to another Kurmi, Chhatrapal Singh Gangwar, who won the Baheri assembly seat in 2017 but lost it five years later. The Samajwadi Party nominated Praveen Singh Aron, who had defeated Santosh Gangwar in 2009 on a Congress ticket. The Bahujan Samaj Party’s Chhotelal Gangwar, meanwhile, had his candidature cancelled because of an incomplete nomination form. According to the voters and politicians we spoke to in Bareilly, a few days before polling, there was a tough fight between the BJP and the SP. “Modi doesn’t have the influence he did in 2014 or 2019,” Santosh Shakya, the associate editor of Indus News TV, told us. “It’s a close battle here this time. People seem very aggressive about their issues.”

@@ashhash8973 you are just picking up one year which is 2013,, by that logic the inflation rate in january 2022 was 13.56%. The yearly average for 2022 was 10.58%. Also it was the genius of manmohan singh that even with 10% rate the petrol and LPG was much cheaper because of subsidies... The price of petroleum products have tripled,, even though now crude oil is much cheaper than before..

Btw petrol and diesel prices r set by oil producing countries and there R wars going on. Govt need money to run and fund infra projects and fuel tax is one of them. Then again u r not comparing the currency value of rupee back in 2010s with 2024. Sheesh

Actually I am not in favour of any party. I mostly disagree with BJP guys, but thisBjP uncle made a point. Unemployment should not be a problem, you could start business also. I mean, it is important for governments to ensure job opportunities. BJP's biggest problem is lack of acknowledgement, they never accept that there is something wrong and needs repair. Unemployment and inflation is something which BJP can say that they will try to find solutions for, but now they just believe that these things don't even exist. Accepting the problem is the first step towards solving it. These people are so blinded by religion and pride.

Unemployment & Inflation was always an issue at some level, but earlier governments were use to be at least sensitive enough and use to make some attempt to provide relief to common man. But Modi govt does not even recognise it as an issue even. Sheer Arrogance of Modi govt and BJP.

There is no miracle answer to unemployment. BJP is sincerely doing its best to reduce unemployment. The first step to handle unemployment is the growth in population. Please educate all the people you know to the same. If you are not happy with BJP's performance, you are free to vote for others. But, as on date there is no other party other than BJP which is sincerely working for the benefit of the people and the country. Voting for I.N.D.I.Alliance is going to do more harm. But thats your choice.
