Physics on Khan Academy: Physics is the study of the basic principles that govern the physical world around us. We'll start by looking at motion itself. Then, we'll learn about forces, momentum, energy, and other concepts in lots of different physical situations. To get the most out of physics, you'll need a solid understanding of algebra and a basic understanding of trigonometry.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

It’s all so simple until AP Classroom asks a question about a rod attached to an axis with a string hanging which is attached to a pulley which is attached to a block, and there are no numbers

Didn't pay attention in class during the entire chapter except hearing a thing or two, watched this and took the test today, felt wonderful I think I may have gotten an A. There is one I know for sure I got wrong and know what I did wrong in hindsight. You know what they say, you're smart about something when you are able to tell when you're wrong.

At 16:36, why is the inertia of the clay ball sticking to the rod not 1/3 ML^2 ?
@jarreddrickler298
4 жыл бұрын
rotational inertia = mr^2; in this case length=r
@musiclamar4458

@trevorwallace3266

Because you’re treating it as a point mass moving around the axis
@aryanshahu6167
2 жыл бұрын
Because the total inertia is the inertia of rod + point mass so 1/3 3ML^2 + ML^2 is the total inertia
any way we can download these notes ?

On my computer, there's a "print screen" button, which takes a picture of whatever shows up on a screen, and stores it in memory. Then I can CTRL+V in an image program and save a copy of my screen as an image file. Look up "how to take a screenshot on a __computer type___", if you don't have this button.

11:05 how did you get 1 for summation of torque if counterclockwise is positive, so wouldn't it be 3-4 = -1??
@medivald2
4 ай бұрын
The direction is negative. However, the magnitude of the acceleration is positive because the rod begins to accelerate rather than deaccelerate
@parky7417
2 ай бұрын
its asking for magnitude so it didnt really matter. just looks cleaner. it would be negative if it wasnt asking for magnitude
I wonder the I = 2/5 mr² is the inertia for ball not for sphere. In sphere’s case, it seems to me to be 2/3 mr², according to my calculation, and 2/5 mr² for ball.
